Sweet blessed rain. The garden rejoices.

I picked another snow pea, the first zucchini is looking good, I will pick it tomorrow. The pumpkin vine has produced its first (male) flower and the button squash has a few female flowers, but I think I'll probaby need to hand pollinate them, I just need to get the timing right.

argh, i tried to fry the steamed gyoza and they stuck to everything

time to look up YTs on how to cook

[–] SaneMartigan@aussie.zone 6 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

I fry them in a pan with oil and water and a lid to keep the steam in. Fries the bottom and steams the top.

[–] Bottom_racer@aussie.zone 6 points 1 day ago

Yea the witch is right.

Fry.. then put water in the pan, lid on and steam then lid off for a little bit to crisp.

I generally fry from frozen as it gives you more time to not bugger it up :)

I know the advice from everyone is the correct way. An alternative (wrong way) that I use, is popping them in a bamboo steamer, then once they are cooked, I add a bit of oil to a pan and crisp them up at the end.

Either way, yum!

Yes what everyone else said. I'll just add this: Once they're fried on one side, add 1/4 cup of cold water and turn it right down to simmer with a lid on. When the water has evaporated they are ready.

[–] Seagoon_@aussie.zone 4 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

so I basically did everything wrong, okay

I have learnt πŸ‘

thank you all for your help 😘

Um, fry first then steam?

Went to the gym to reset myself after yesterday's failure of a workout. Spent more time in the massage chair than anything, but hey, I went and it was still better than yesterdays!

I left Adelaide almost 11 years ago to come back here. No real plan.

After fucking around on the street for about 2 months, I found a place to live in a share house with an alcoholic who did more for me than my own family.

I stayed there for a year. When I first rocked up I slept on a mattress on the floor wearing all my clothes because there was a gap between my wall and the world at large so it was quite cold.

This is the place.

It's renovated now. I haven't been back here since I moved out. I walked in gaunt, covered in track marks and walked out with an office job and a plan to study IT.

Time flies.

[–] Eagle@aussie.zone 8 points 1 day ago

Family is not always blood.

So grateful that this place allowed your healing and planted the seeds for growth. You should be proud.

[–] Alamutjones@aussie.zone 6 points 1 day ago

You've done well.

If a web page pops up asking for my email I usually just close the web page. Don't bother me.

One of the reasons I love the market is that I can, if I don't buy the extra nice things as well, feed myself for a week for about $30

[–] Seagoon_@aussie.zone 4 points 1 day ago

definitely

when I was struggling I would buy a few big $1 bags of vegies, cheap rice from the Asian market, cheapest mince , a dozen eggs and curry pastes , supermarket bread , home brand cheese, etc,

A random remark about macrame has reminded me of the existence of Squashed Pickled People. What other disturbing old craft trends to you recall? Toilet dollies, bread people, dead cat doorstops etc...... squashed pickled people

[–] melbaboutown@aussie.zone 6 points 1 day ago

Oh man I remember those except it was pickled bums

Sky was very pretty this evening. It was very pretty this morning too. I really like having this open view of the sky where I am at the moment, I wish I could afford something with this sort of view permanently.

The sound design on some old games is so good. Rare knew you'd be collecting things hundreds of times over in Banjo Kazooie so they made the sound of everything so good. They'd only have space for one sound for each item so it needs to be good

had a professional moist man come out and we're good, even with all this humidity. yaay.

In other news, scammers are calling again after a wonderful christmas hiatus, so the first entry on this page is a wonderful way to fuck with them if you're so inclined

Nearly home time. Just as well, my brain is no longer braining properly and my words keep coming out in the wrong order.

Shopping done, banh mi acquired. Time to pour out a cold one and chill for the balance of the day.

By the way, I was recently gifted a dressmaker's dummy - but its in medium/large size, and I'm only a small/medium. It's a Singer 151 if you're interested. Does anyone care to swap for a Singer 150 or equivalent? Full working order. If no-one wants it, I'll probably dress it up provocatively and put it where it can be seen through the front windows. Heh heh.

That’s weird. My bad knee was painfully clicking as I walked which is a thing, but my hip and ankle now hurt as well and the pain has spread up my lower leg.

Also there’s a ~~new~~ mutated flu strain causing an early season and easier transmission so I’m going to have to get a flu shot

I got a lift today so was able to get a tube of flea and worm drops, also got to Bunnings and bought some shadecloth and pinch clamps. I’ll have to wait until someone is with me though to put it up.

If this helps anyone - I mentioned that I needed to buy for a stray so was unsure of the exact weight, and was told that every shop (not sure if it’s in general or only Petstock) has recently expired flea and worm treatments that they’ll give for free.

spoilerI was too embarrassed to take freebies and needed something with a specific wide weight range so I straight up bought the single Advocate for $30 (oof). But if you’re ever in a tight spot where you might not be able to afford treatment you can ask for the stuff that’s just expired.

Unfortunately they didn’t have the generic one in stock. But yeah. The Aristopet for cats over 4kg is $20 for a 3 pack (3 months worth) so I’ll add it to the next delivery. And I double checked that it was safe to use. The Purina brand ($19 x 1) however wasn’t recommended. And of course I would never risk supermarket brand flea medicine.

Edit: I’m silly… I’m using a new spot on for Melbcat now that might be a bit high for this cat’s weight, but had a single tube of the old one left. If I’d remembered in time I could have just used that.

So anyway, back to the story.

I enjoyed climbing as a youth, as most of us do. I was alone at a park and decided to climb to the top bar of a swing set, make my way to the chains holding the swing seat, and shimmy back down the chain. Brilliant.

Except, the black plastic seats are held to the chain with a type of β€œs” shaped hook.

When I slid down the chain, that hook embedded itself into my nether region and I ended up sort of hanging there; impaled..

Oh shit. Adrenaline kicked in and I had to climb back up the chain to un-hook myself.

I knew something was seriously wrong but I was alone and proceeded to walk home while holding my bike. There was no way I was going to sit on a bike seat and ride.

Mum freaked out (and rightly so) and drove me to hospital where I received several stitches. No permanent damage, but the story continues to make people sick in the stomach many years later πŸ˜€

Enjoy your weekend!

Hey everyone, just checking over there and it looks like Melbourne cops have joined Sydney cops and started getting around with sniffer dogs at train stations. So, if you consume restricted drugs, be sure to carry a copy of your prescription (the sticker on the packet) to avoid any legal hassles. If you consume illegal drugs, it might be worth avoiding public transport all together. Someone mentioned that a sniffer dog detecting counts as reasonable suspicion for a stop-n-search. I can make my dog indicate things with the tiniest clicks of my tongue.

What a bunch of bullshit.
