I'm always mesmerized by their eyes

[–] abbadon420@sh.itjust.works 36 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Omg, you have your goat ona leash? That's cute XD

Do you actually walk it, like a dog? Or do you just do it for fun sometimes?

We used to have a goat and we'd tie it to a pole with its leash. We'd move the pole around every day, so it'd have fresh grass every day.

[–] Zagam@piefed.social 54 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Yeah, we walk them just about daily. They took to collars pretty quick after trying harnesses. All the neighbors love them. Kids flock to them to feed them leavescabd grass and stuff.

I’m a goat on a leash, last call scream Sawed-off faith in a bad dream Turn it up till the streetlights bleach I won’t kneel—I’ll chew through the leash.

  1. Day-oh (the banana goat song)
[–] Waraugh@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

The first picture could even work as a front cover background really well. Kinda need this person to release an album now.

[–] Zagam@piefed.social 3 points 2 weeks ago

I can try to get my sons band to use it as a cover, but there's no one on earth that wants to hear me play anything.

[–] Lost_My_Mind@lemmy.world 27 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

Aw man. I was hoping your goat got ICE out of your neighborhood. Such an invasive species.

[–] Zagam@piefed.social 34 points 2 weeks ago

I wouldn't let my goats eat them. Head but them? Yeah. Kick em? Yeah. Run their water through a Freemen recaimer then use it to wash my goats? Yeah.

[–] Etterra@discuss.online 5 points 2 weeks ago

That's brilliant. Now I know exactly what Minnesota needs. A good old-fashioned cattle ~~stampede~~ drive. Right through the middle of wherever ICE happens to be fucking around.

Is it okay for goats to eat Ivy? Isn't it slightly poisonous?

[–] Zagam@piefed.social 26 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

They graze on this everytimecwe walk by and have never had a problem. I wouldn't let them eat like an acre or anything, most stuff gets bad if its too much.

Its also hard to find solid "yes/no" lists. I'd heard black locust was really bad, and that it was OK. My guys got out one day and ate 3 saplings to the bark. Turns out its ok and they love it.

I also googled it real quick. Happy to learn goats can eat it and yours like it :)

Poison ivy only affects people. You can actually rent out goats specifically to get rid of poison ivy.

[–] Zagam@piefed.social 6 points 2 weeks ago

This is English ivy. But yeah, they can eat posion ivy. Its actually good for them.

Yaaasss!!! We need joy so badly, and this is not just joyful, but productive and beneficial. 10s 10s 10s across the board!!

[–] Zagam@piefed.social 10 points 2 weeks ago

My wife got me the pair for my birthday a couple of years ago. (after a lot of discussion. Never give animals as gifts as surprises). They'd have been a great source of joy and fun.

He's the GOAT!

[–] southsamurai@sh.itjust.works 8 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

That goat is photogenic as fuck!

And a tru enviro-homie to boot.

[–] Zagam@piefed.social 6 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Yeah, he has the prettiest eyes. And yeah, he's the eater of the two. He'll keep eating till I pull him away.

[–] southsamurai@sh.itjust.works 4 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I wish I could keep goats here. I've always had a love of the little buggers, even the ornery ones.

Those eyes are part of that, though it's more the personality. I wish you and yours all the joy life can bring you

[–] Zagam@piefed.social 2 points 2 weeks ago

These are Nigerian Dwarf Goats. They're almost 2 years old and about fully grown now. You can get wethers* for pretty cheap and as far as I'm telling people, they are pets, not livestock. No harder to care for than dogs, maybe easier. And you get top notch fertilizer to boot. We live near a pretty big city, so suburbs but not track home style suburbs. Small yards, close neighbors. The biggest problem was finding a source of proper hay. But once we worked out getting and storing that, its been a blast.

*wethers are boy goats that have been "fixed". Generally, goats that aren't handsome enoughbor show worthy get wethered and sold cheap.

For an animal, right?

An animal, right?

[–] daggermoon@lemmy.world 5 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

I mean if we want to get technical, humans are animals

[–] DasFaultier@sh.itjust.works 4 points 2 weeks ago

A leash can have two purposes.

[–] daggermoon@lemmy.world 3 points 2 weeks ago

Indeed it is

[–] festus@lemmy.ca 5 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Do they sleep inside the house? Like, are they housepets jumping up on your table and bed?

[–] Zagam@piefed.social 12 points 2 weeks ago

Ha. No. They have a nice hut we put thrm in at night to keep them safe. We could bring them inside but chaos wouldnt begin to describe it. I have read that some people have house trained their goats, but I dont believe it. And we could diaper them but a) that would just be wired and b) I have 3 kids and am done with the idea of diapers.

"getringbrid"

Wha.... how did you not notice how badly you failed at typing that?

[–] Zagam@piefed.social 6 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Typing on mobile, trying to walk goats, avoiding slipping on ice, and trying to keep my fingers warm.

[–] yermaw@sh.itjust.works 4 points 2 weeks ago

Live action shot? Nice!
