These are called wet whipes right? I might be wrong but they seem like an American thing. Only ever seen, heard and read about them in that specific type of packaging via that context. I've only ever come across wet wipes, of any kind and in any packaging, via health care and for toddlers. They're basically non-existent in my country outside of that. And the packaging they come in here doesn't have this issue at all.

Had a few seconds where I thought "Wired" was referring to the tech magazine and wondered what "Tired" is, who would choose name for their magazine or whatever?

This feels like you consciously made errors just to irritate people. What's with the random comma? And "tax right off"... seriously?

OP doing the classic "this is a thing in my country/city/whatever and that means it must be the same for the rest of the world" with that title. I've never even heard about this before. It's not a thing in any shops I've ever been too, both in my own country and other countries I've been to. In my country the only similar experience is when you go to a store and use the machine for recycling cans and plastic bottles, you get a choice to donate the money directly to "children of the world" which is part of a national organisation that works to improve the rights and access to healt care, schools and safety for kids all around the world.

Meat eaters are unbelievably good at being hypocrites though, and they are hypocrites about being hypocrites too.

Making an animal pregnant isn't solving a medical issue. How do you not see the difference?

I had a dream a couple of days ago that took place in a future where Trump had been in prison, died and stuff had gotten better. A lot of stuff that's uncertain now had been proven. The specific scene of the dream was me and part of my family along with others, imaginary people who were also family, sitting down to watch news and seeing coverage of dig sites at trumps golf course where many skeletons had been found, and more were expected. There had already been many more found on Epsteins island and other places. The general feeling was of having been through some fucked up shit but we, all of humanity, managed to do better than we all thought and expected and were now in the "after a war" moment of just finding out as much as possible of what really had happened.
It was a very heavy, both in good and bad ways, moment.
It's stuck with me and I really hope we can get to that point, or something even remotely close, sometime soon enough.

Seriously? It'll definitely work for more people than one dares to believe. It's not about it working in the way you mean on us, the people that nothing will work on, it's about everyone else. And for us that have functional empathy, conscience, intelligence etc. it will work in another way, we see the horrors about to happen. We see the people it's going to happen to as actual people and anyone can only handle so much. It's the classic "do or confess bad thing to make other bad thing seem less relevant", and that works on everyone, just in different ways.
I can absolutely see even here on lemmy being filled with news about this and less about what they're doing this to take attention away from. It'll work on me, no matter how much I don't want it to, because I feel for the people who will suffer and die from this. And It'll work on others in other ways.

Waaaaay easier and cheaper to replace the lenses than a whole pole, including everything that was on it. And I think an angle grinder with some disks would cost about as much as a paintball gun with permanent ink ammo, and the former being much more bang for your buck in terms of damage done and also use other than for this.

Did you somehow not see the many comments here proving that's not true? It's been widely reported as being false for years.

Inte använt Google på många år, så detta som första intrycket sen dess kunde inte vart bättre.

Hey! I'm looking for an app or browser with a good reading mode, preferably with images too, of website articles. So many websites put random shit between paragraphs that break up the article, and not just ads so using an adblocker doesn't help much.
For example, I saw this article about my city: https://www.thesun.co.uk/travel/37178834/new-train-station-opens-europe-city-break/
And it's just a shitty experience to read the article, I just want the text and images. I tried Firefox reading mode but it doesn't do a great job a lot of the time (including this article), like not removing the right stuff and even removing parts that are actually the article.
Very much prefer a FOSS app, searched around a bit but didn't really find anything.

Hey, for the past couple of weeks I've had issues with comments loading. It started as only every now and then but now it's almost every post, and it's not specific to certain instances. There have been two (maybe three) updates during this time and it has gotten worse with every update.
It just shows the loading icon in the comment field forever, tried waiting over 20 minutes a couple of times.
I'm unsure I'll even be able to read the comments on this post so I have to use another app for a bit until it's fixed (if it's a problem with the app itself or something on my end).
Only thing I can think of that might have caused this on my end is my system wide adblocker (Adguard) but I've tried turning it off and restarting the app and my phone but the issue still persists

I haven't felt such a hard punch of completely unexpected nostalgia before. Must be 20 years since the last time I saw this game, goddamn that feels weird. Both me and my little sister used to spend hours trying to beat each others highscores, she always won even though she very rarely played any games at all.

Hey, after trying every lemmy android app I could find, I like thunder the most other than Sync. But there are three main things that stop me from fully switching from Sync.

  1. Option to hide bottom navigation bar on scroll, same as we already can with the top one.
  2. Option to change the three dots on every post to a share button, hold for options or have both. I only ever vote, share (to save to read later) or check comments. That one extra step to save to my read later app gets weirdly annoying very quickly.
  3. Compact card mode, looks the same as cards but have the smaller thumbnails to the side like compact does (which side as an option, right would be my choice).

Sorry if anything is badly explained, got no sleep last night so my brain is running on fumes, just ask if needed and I'll try to explain better.

The past few weeks Qwant has gone from good to almost unusable. It started with them removing the global search option a little while ago, now you have to select a country and that made the results worse. But even after that, for the past two weeks or so it's gotten so bad that I have to jump to other search engines all the time just for basic stuff that shouldn't be a problem. I have no idea what they're doing but it's now even worse than Google, which says a lot.

The company is Access Industries and the Founder and Owner is Leonard Blavatnik

Along with what's in the title, he is accused of reputation laundering against Ukraine and has been personally sanctioned by Volodymyr Zelenskyy. He was also part of a WhatsApp group involving some of the United States' most powerful business leaders with the stated goals of "changing the narrative" in favour of Israel and "helping win the war" against Gaza.

Everything is in the linked Wikipedia article about him, mostly under the "Controversies and disputes" part.

I switched to Deezer after seeing it recommended as a better Spotify alternative here on Lemmy, but after finding all this I immediately stopped using it. It's as bad as the shit Spotify does and has done IMO. I'm not here to recommend or push an alternative, but if I can give info on what I use now if someone asks.

Hey, I am forced to use Ubuntu 20.04 because it's the only distro and version currently supported by Shadow, which I use for several hours every day. (Yeah, it sucks that they haven't kept up with updates or support other distros...) And I'm trying to install Floorp browser but I get errors both via apt get install and via flatpak. Here are the two errors:

apt get install floorp
floorp : Depends: libgdk-pixbuf-2.0-0 (>= 2.22.0) but it is not installable
E: Unable to correct problems, you have held broken packages.

flatpak install flathub one.ablaze.floorp
Looking for matches…
error: Unable to load summary from remote flathub: URI https://dl.flathub.org/repo/summary exceeded maximum size of 10485760 bytes

I'm pretty new to Linux so I have no idea what to do here. I found nothing helpful when searching these errors.

Hello! A few years ago I saw this really good movie that I can't stop thinking about but I forgot the name and just can't find it no matter how much I try.
I'm pretty sure it's from Eastern Europe, non-English language, made kinda recently (within the last 10 years I think).
The movie starts with a mother and her toddler hundreds of years ago who live in a small hut in the forest who gets visited by a witch (I think it's some specific folklore being. She kinda looks like a burn victim, whole body is scar tissue when we see her at the beginning of the movie) then the movie jumps a few years and we see the now kid (the toddler from before) go into a cave and is stuck in there for some time.
I can't remember exactly what happened during and right after that.
But the movie then begins its actually story of this witch who kills people and then transforms into them, basically copies their physical bodies, and then goes on to live as them for several years. She lives for a long time and during the movie we see the different people, both male and female, who she lives as.
Every time she becomes someone new she has to relearn basic things so she can't talk or do simple tasks, almost like a toddler in an adult body for a while.
Her thoughts are narrated most of the time, often as whispering, and we see and listen as she explores things like sex, relationships, being these different people and as she learns to live their lives. It's very close and personal to her, we basically experience it through her mind but see her as these people in second and third person (not actually game-like third person perspective, just that we see her characters from a perspective outside those people). I think we do see through her eyes sometimes, but I'm not sure about that.

Does anyone know what movie it might be? Or have any tips on websites or ways to search to help me find it? Thanks!!

Edit: this is crazy, I found it right after making this post... So many hours trying to find it before with nothing even being close. It's "You Won't Be Alone": https://www.imdb.com/title/tt8296030/
