Showerthoughts

A "Showerthought" is a simple term used to describe the thoughts that pop into your head while you're doing everyday things like taking a shower, driving, or just daydreaming. The most popular seem to be lighthearted clever little truths, hidden in daily life.

Here are some examples to inspire your own showerthoughts:

Rules

  1. All posts must be showerthoughts
  2. The entire showerthought must be in the title
  3. No politics
    • If your topic is in a grey area, please phrase it to emphasize the fascinating aspects, not the dramatic aspects. You can do this by avoiding overly politicized terms such as "capitalism" and "communism". If you must make comparisons, you can say something is different without saying something is better/worse.
    • A good place for politics is c/politicaldiscussion
  4. Posts must be original/unique
  5. Adhere to Lemmy's Code of Conduct and the TOS

If you made it this far, showerthoughts is accepting new mods. This community is generally tame so its not a lot of work, but having a few more mods would help reports get addressed a little sooner.

Whats it like to be a mod? Reports just show up as messages in your Lemmy inbox, and if a different mod has already addressed the report, the message goes away and you never worry about it.

Funny thought, but unlikely. We could just skip the rich guy and just get rid of cash bail entirely. There isn't likely to be much in the way of chaos.

FYI: Bail is not a get out of jail free card

Its just setting down a sort of "security deposit" and promising to go to the court date, and they'll take your money if you don't show up to court and also issue a warrant for your arrest. You still have to face a trial.

If you are considered "dangerous", they could deny letting you go on bail.

So not really a whole lot of "chaos". It's actually a good thing to let people go if they a haven't been convicted of a crime yet. Cuz keeping innocent people (cuz that's what they are before a conviction) in custody is injustice.

There are also laws about who can post bail for you. My understanding is that they need to either have an actual relationship with you or be a licensed bondsman. Either be someone who can guilt you into going to court or who will hire a bounty hunter to haul you in.

(And bail bonds are unfair bullshit, but that's a different thing.)

I don’t think this is a thing. The court could reject you if you’re suspicious, but I don’t think there are laws saying “you need a blood relationship to post bail for someone”

Now court could reject bailing-out someone is BLANKING BS! If it is true, then must be removed!

Blood relationship requirement is just not true.

I haven't a clue what the rules are but I don't think anybody was suggesting you had to have a blood relationship to bail someone out. I think they were suggesting you have to know the person, be a friend or colleague or have some kind of connection to them as opposed to some stranger just walking in and bailing out random people like I suggested in my original post

Or become president and pardon them all. Wait. Didn't that already happen?

Can't pardon state charges...

(I mean unless they send in the military to jail-break people? 🤔)

What if it sorta-kinda already happened, with the people in question furthermore being employed in federal immigration services?

You mean ‘The Crazy Don’ & his Administration bailing-out his ‘Mob Enforcers’?

I'd love to see someone do the math, I'd bet one dude could bail out every eligible person in the US. Probably wouldn't even have to be Musk/Bezos/Gates.

It'd cost about $36 billion, assuming roughly 665,000 people are on bail nationwide in the US, and the average Pennsylvania (couldn't find anywhere else) bail amount of $55,400. There are ~902 billionaires in the US according to Forbes, though some of them are likely under $36 billion.

That would be awesome, for them arrested & their families, but the rest of The Rich-Super Rich Economic Classes/Owners would be mad as BLANK!
