Rules (interactive)

Rule 1- All posts must be legitimate questions. All post titles must include a question.

All posts must be legitimate questions, and all post titles must include a question. Questions that are joke or trolling questions, memes, song lyrics as title, etc. are not allowed here. See Rule 6 for all exceptions.

Rule 2- Your question subject cannot be illegal or NSFW material.

Your question subject cannot be illegal or NSFW material. You will be warned first, banned second.

Rule 3- Do not seek mental, medical and professional help here.

Do not seek mental, medical and professional help here. Breaking this rule will not get you or your post removed, but it will put you at risk, and possibly in danger.

Rule 4- No self promotion or upvote-farming of any kind.

That's it.

Rule 5- No baiting or sealioning or promoting an agenda.

Questions which, instead of being of an innocuous nature, are specifically intended (based on reports and in the opinion of our crack moderation team) to bait users into ideological wars on charged political topics will be removed and the authors warned - or banned - depending on severity.

Rule 6- Regarding META posts and joke questions.

Provided it is about the community itself, you may post non-question posts using the [META] tag on your post title.

On fridays, you are allowed to post meme and troll questions, on the condition that it's in text format only, and conforms with our other rules. These posts MUST include the [NSQ Friday] tag in their title.

If you post a serious question on friday and are looking only for legitimate answers, then please include the [Serious] tag on your post. Irrelevant replies will then be removed by moderators.

Rule 7- You can't intentionally annoy, mock, or harass other members.

If you intentionally annoy, mock, harass, or discriminate against any individual member, you will be removed.

Likewise, if you are a member, sympathiser or a resemblant of a movement that is known to largely hate, mock, discriminate against, and/or want to take lives of a group of people, and you were provably vocal about your hate, then you will be banned on sight.

Rule 8- All comments should try to stay relevant to their parent content.

Rule 9- Reposts from other platforms are not allowed.

Let everyone have their own content.

Rule 10- Majority of bots aren't allowed to participate here. This includes using AI responses and summaries.

I have never known anyone with ADHD that self medicated with meth, the only ones I know have a prescription which is the opposite of aelf medication.

Amphetamine is speed, it's not the same as meth and is prescribed alot for ADHD(or other similar chemicals). Meth actually can be prescribed for ADHD but isnt usually. Lots of undiagnosed people with ADHD self medicate with all kinds of stimulants, amphetamine, dexamphetamine, methylphenidate... Idk why you think they wouldn't, these pills are widely available and for people without a prescription they offer the relief they need so badly so of course they're gonna self medicate with them. I've known people who self medicated with caffeine pills or energy drinks if they didn't have an alternative. I'd bet a lot of people who end up addicted to meth started out because it helped their neurodivergence.

Yeah. From what I see, they generally self-medicate with energy drinks.

I don't know what works for OCD, but I guarantee they take the same dose every day at the exact same time.

[–] MehBlah@lemmy.world 25 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I self medicated with pot. Speed didn't do anything.

[–] Mohamed@lemmy.ca 8 points 1 day ago

While probably not self-medication, SSRI's are one the most successful drug treatments for OCD, I believe. I know this doesn't really answer your question.

Hi, I have attention-deprived homosexual disaster disorder, and I medicate with extreme amounts of caffeine.

[–] ski11erboi@lemmy.world 10 points 1 day ago

I also have found caffeine solves most of my problems.

Can't a guy get fucked up without it being "self medication"?

[–] fonix232@fedia.io 1 points 22 hours ago (1 children)

Technically, any chemically induced change of state of mind that doesn't require a third party to supervise, can be considered self medication.

Morning coffee? Self medication. Going for a jog to feel better? Self medication. Getting blackout drunk on your own? Self medication. Midnight wank when you can't sleep? Self medication.

You know what's NOT self medication? Taking shrooms or LSD or any other hallucinogenics with a trip sitter.

[–] emeralddawn45@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 6 hours ago* (last edited 6 hours ago)

I disagree that having a tripsitter present makes it not self-medication. If the substance isn't being prescribed or administered by the third party, and they aren't medical professionals then it's still self-administered even if there's a third party there. So then it becomes a question of intent. Why are they taking it? If it's because it helps or treats some aspect of themselves that they are unhappy with then it's medication. I'm genuinely curious why you'd think hallucinogens wouldn't fit into that category, or if it's just the presence of a trip sitter that you think negates the medicinal aspect.

Edit* does your morning coffee stop being medicinal if you share the pot with others? Does your jog if someone jogs beside you? A trip sitter is just a precaution and most people who have done psychedelics often, particularly people who self medicate with them, probably have also done them without trip sitters at some point.

Not OCD, but it's caffeine and weed for me.

[–] KittenBiscuits@lemmy.today 6 points 1 day ago

My OCD diagnosed hubby self-medicates with sugar and/or naps. Weed does nothing for him. And he can't have caffeine due to a congenital heart defect.
