Because of the API thing. I actually wasn't aware at the time that there were actually third party clients for Reddit, but I am somewhat tech-savvy so I immediately recognized the effect that the change will have had. Also my favorite community was r/ProgrammerHumour (as it is now), and I left when they announced it will go private due to protestation for the API changes.

1) Be nice and; have fun
Doxxing, trolling, sealioning, racism, and toxicity are not welcomed in AskLemmy. Remember what your mother said: if you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all. In addition, the site-wide Lemmy.world terms of service also apply here. Please familiarize yourself with them

5) This is not a support community.
It is not a place for 'how do I?', type questions.

I got banned for making fun of Elon back when people were burning Teslas.
Fuck Reddit but this place is far from a bastion of free sharing of ideas. Honestly fuck Lemmy too.

Greedy little pigboy...
I was going back and forth for a while because it was a bot infested shithole and most of the mods were fuckheads. The final straw was getting banned for "advocating violence" against child molesters.
I mainly browsed on the phone, obviously not with the official malware; greedy little pigboy spez effectively banned third party apps by setting absurdly high API fees, making it impossible to browse on the phone, so I had to find an alternative, and I ended up here.
Welcome to the resistance
I wish it were for political reasons but honestly the main reason for me is that reddit just sucks now. It's way too sterile and predictable.
Front page:
- Am I an asshole?
- Am I overreacting?
- Ragebait of all sorts.
- Pop culture.
Logged in, in a few dozen smaller subreddits:
- Chat, am I cooked?
- Same question as was asked yesterday. And the day before. Illiteracy.
- Is this good? (Screenshot of cheapest Amazon garbage you could find)
- AM I GONNA DIE? (from soldering fumes)
- We built this with AI
- And my favorite "I want something like (popular proprietary app), but free, open source, easy to use, and same number of users. Why hasn't anyone made this?!"
I’m European. Moving away from everything from the US Prefer to not disclose my ideas with US people
You say that like Europe isn't almost identical.
I got banned for calling Elon a crybaby bitch
You were not wrong.
Came in with the '23 fuck spez wave. When they started training LLMs with reddit data. Edited all my posts and closed the account.
general divestment from US everything
Bots. Bots every where. Bots moderating. Bots posting. Bots responding.
- I'm European (enough said)
- smaller networks provide less doomscroll temptations
- I <3 FOSS/federated networks and despise corpo-run social media platforms, especially those in Sil-V
- being an early adopter (hopefully)
I'm still on Reddit, but less and less over time.
I deleted my first account after the API-calypse and started using Lemmy. Then my cravings came back and I made a 2nd Reddit account, but the ongoing bots/AI bs made me go 100% Lemmy.
.
I used to have a link to some instructions on how to nuke your Reddit account and post history, but I can't find it anymore...
After their API stunt. This was "projected future maybe profits above taking care of the place", so nah, I'm out
Banned for "hate speech" for telling an American propagandist to get his American propaganda out of my country. Apparently Reddit is helping with the effort to destabilize and invade Canada.
they shill for IDF/BIBI on worldnews and pics, im not surprised. at least for pics i was able to get people reporting for posting propaganda or misleading in a way to discredit biden(it was beofre the election)
mainly that i got site wide banned for no reason
Reason: bots. It’s being moderated by shitty bots.
6 year account with 50k karma too no less
they gave me a temp ban originally on February of last year, but then decided all my accounts were banned, because this one was banned by AI, so it look for any other that were similarly recieved some kind of violaiton. and i was reporting people for spamming and misinformation.
I already less and less frequently used Reddit, then the APIpocalypse pointed me to alternatives. If only the "boycott" wasn't a temporary thing to maybe make spez reconsider...
most of us were banned during last year waves of purges. apparently they started using AI to start shadowbanning people, along with bots. then i remember lemmy from somewhere and i just started using site, after milling on other forums , which also claimed they were shadowbanned recently too. wish lemmy was more stable with some of its instances that got shutdown.
also appealing seems to be futile for 99% of shadowbanned people than before, they ignore most of it. having multiple accounts actually puts you at risk for being banned more easily.
Got banned for mocking a racist
ICE for me.
I'm using mbin in a browser so, er, nothing yet?
