"Do you ever notice who it is... stop to think who it is we kill? It's always people who've told us to live together in harmony and try to love one another...." -George Carlin

Just want to say that halftime show was 🔥🔥🔥. I don’t listen to bad bunny normally, but I am now.

[–] HeyJoe@lemmy.world 40 points 1 week ago

I dont either, and only heard some of his stuff before. I also am never a huge fan of most of the half time shows, but this one seemed to work well and was unique. I especially liked the end where he celebrates all countries, the dig without being a dig.

[–] ickplant@lemmy.world 35 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

Fuck yes, same.

[–] YiddishMcSquidish@lemmy.today 19 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I heard him for the first time yesterday, just to know what I was in for. Dude is incredibly popular on YouTube! First video had a billion views!

And the spectacle of it all! Outside of last year, this was one of the most entertaining halftime shows I can remember.

[–] danc4498@lemmy.world 11 points 1 week ago (17 children)

I listened to him after the Grammys. Found I loved many of his songs.

Prince’s halftime show will always be the greatest ever. But this was close.

"You don't like Bad Bunny because you are racist, I don't like Bad Bunny because it's shitty commercial music, we are not the same."

[–] realitista@lemmus.org 72 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Honestly I'm starting to like him just because they hate him so much.

[–] TheEighthDoctor@lemmy.zip 40 points 1 week ago (1 children)

You know what? Fuck it, me too

Have you listened to DTmF? Bad bunny is excellent, no opposition required at all.

He has some really great songs. Not everything that's popular is bad.

It's not for me either. I did hear that he endorsed the left wing(socialist iirc) party in the last Puerto Rico election, and obviously has been very vocally anti-ICE, so I'll take it.

I tried googling his “Ocasio 64” jersey, and all I came up with was articles about the time AOC streamed a Donkey Kong 64 marathon.

[–] TropicalDingdong@lemmy.world 49 points 1 week ago (2 children)

a Donkey Kong 64 marathon.

go on..

[–] starik@lemmy.zip 75 points 1 week ago (3 children)

Well, you see…

DK, Donkey Kong. He’s the leader of the bunch, you know him well. He’s finally back to kick some tail. His coconut gun can fire in spurts. If he shoots ya, it’s gonna hurt! He’s bigger, faster, and stronger, too. He’s the first member of the DK crew.

[–] Scubus@sh.itjust.works 7 points 1 week ago

If ya know the words you can join in too

Ocasio is Bad Bunny's last name. 64 might be the year of his dad's birth, but that's a guess.

We all need to go watch Bad Bunny on Tiny Desk to really appreciate the expert musicianship.

Edit: going to link to my own comment on another post asking about explanation of the halftime show's references: https://lemmy.world/comment/22044314

I will upvote any tinydesk link. I love tiny desk, such a good way to discover music if you just let it run in the background while you work or whatever.

Its how I discovered Monsieur Perine and Hobo Johnson and the lovemakers.

What was that "story" where Chapter 1: Defeating evil with the power of love. Chapter 2: Defeating evil with the power of incredible violence?

I'm already at chapter 2.

[–] Railcar8095@lemmy.world 29 points 1 week ago (3 children)

I remember a movie where there was a guru like that, who convinced everybody on his (the citizens of the protagonist country/village) to not fight, because "love is the most powerful weapon". The protagonists were like "fuck that, you're getting everybody killed"

So when the bad guys army arrived, they were meet with flowers and people just being happy and saying no need to flee or fight. The soldiers were too weird out to attack, so they just stood there, some joined the celebrations.

The lead bad guy got angry and tried to stab the protagonist, but was killed before by a dagger thrown by the pacifist guru. Everybody just looked at then and said "love is the most powerful weapon... But it's not always the fastest"

I have no idea what this movie was, I remember it loked like shit, but that's scene has been living rent free on my mind forever

It sounds reminiscent of the twist in Wizards.

[–] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 22 points 1 week ago (5 children)

I want to do a meme of Bugs Bunny happily walking away, while Elmer's face is blown up and blackened from his shotgun backfiring, and label them Bad Bunny and MAGA, but I don't know how, so please enjoy this description instead.

[–] rmuk@feddit.uk 31 points 1 week ago (5 children)

Have you tried using an AI service that will take the description you provided and render it as a creepy, completely humourless, fight-or-flight response inducing hallucination at the cost of merely boiling off a small lake?

That, and “Together we are America”. It was written on the football but he only flashed the writing very briefly.

[–] OddMinus1@sh.itjust.works 17 points 1 week ago (2 children)

It was all over Norwegian media that Trump said it was the worst half time show ever.

Therefore I unironically fully assume that it must have been the best fucking halftime show of all time, full stop.

[–] ickplant@lemmy.world 15 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (2 children)

It was great, definitely the best I’ve seen. Not just some generic gyrating dancers on stage… there was a whole story, a real couple got married and had their wedding cake as part of the story, there was dynamic movement and action throughout, all filmed very well. Lady Gaga and Ricky Martin made appearances. Lots of cultural symbolism. Oh, and music on top of all that. Plus I now have a low key crush on Bad Bunny cause he is just delicious.

You can have both.

A trauma bond so poweful that even when you mom abuses you, you still don't wanna let go because being alone is anxiety inducing.

[–] SoleInvictus@lemmy.blahaj.zone 8 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Emotional ambivalence isn't only normal, it's healthy. I love my partner for being my friend and supporter, but have also felt genuine hatred due to them not doing the work necessary to be a good spouse, leading to us separating.

The trauma bond is a bit different, though. It's unhealthy ambivalence, where even the positive feelings are ultimately rooted in strongly negative behavior. I had one with my father, so I get it.

[–] ohulancutash@feddit.uk 15 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Like clothing branding apparently.

[–] dylanmorgan@slrpnk.net 10 points 1 week ago (1 children)

It’s the name of the stadium ¯_(ツ)_/¯

[–] Viking_Hippie@lemmy.dbzer0.com 16 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Which is itself a pretty fucked up thing no matter how normalized it is.

[–] djdarren@piefed.social 9 points 1 week ago

There's a cricket ground near me called the Hampshire Rosebowl. At least, that's what it was called when it was built.

Since then it's been sponsored by a series of insurance or finance firms, so has officially been known as The <FIRM_NAME> Bowl.

But not to me. Nope. It'll always be the Rosebowl.

It's horrible, just imagine if people would stop to hate each other... How would nazis get all the attention in a world like that?
