Is this image AI? the reflections in the window, the perfect snowman, that film grain filter... it looks too perfect to me.

[–] FellowEnt@sh.itjust.works 8 points 6 days ago

Jesus christ if you image search it there is a slop avalanche with like a dozen variants with him wearing different clothes and slightly different houses etc. All reposted woth slightly different wording.

[–] jpeps@lemmy.world 5 points 6 days ago

I get that vibe. I've seen a different photo with an extremely similar background that was definitely AI. This is kind of the most average looking UK houses, no house numbers, no logo on the security decide. Definitely suspicious.

[–] ParadoxSeahorse@lemmy.world 3 points 6 days ago

Yeah absolutely

[–] cepelinas@sopuli.xyz 1 points 5 days ago

The image search shows nothing on tineye and google lens.

[–] pkjqpg1h@lemmy.zip 1 points 6 days ago

Why does he have a fridge in his front garden?

[–] myotheraccount@lemmy.world 6 points 6 days ago

To make more snow

[–] biggeoff@sh.itjust.works 4 points 6 days ago

It's Southampton

[–] thatsTheCatch@lemmy.nz 1 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Because it's an AI generated photo

A few tells

  • fridge in the yard?
  • snowman is too perfect
  • not enough snow to make said snowman
  • asymmetrical townhouse (different windows, etc.)

But the biggest giveaway

  • the bricks on the house are of inconsistent sizes. Sometimes they are too long, sometimes too short. If you zoom in it becomes apparent (easiest to see on the right half of the house)

"me eh-aye slop is bitter thun your eh-aye slop"

[–] obinice@lemmy.world 2 points 5 days ago

Yeah that's a dick move, it's so rare that we get snow, I enjoy looking out of the window and seeing it.

Not to mention that it's taboo over here to enter someone else's garden without good reason, this bloke's asking for it though, where's his hedge? Not even a fence? Come on. But I digress.

Thing is, if they'd just asked I bet he'd have said sure, and been happy to help, but it's people stepping over the line and going outside of the basic social contact we have in our communities, that's what pisses ya off.

Says the man with appliances on his front lawn. The British really are the ‘mericuhns of Europe aren’t they?

[–] fakeman_pretendname@feddit.uk 3 points 6 days ago

It depends on where you live, but generally you leave stuff out the front if you want to get rid of it (fridges, freezers, ovens, mattresses, sofas etc) - either officially, by arranging a "bulky goods" collection from the council, or waiting for someone who wants/needs it to take it. Large appliances generally get picked up by "rag and bone" men who weigh the metal in for scrap.

Remember that a large chunk of urban population don't drive at all, and the majority that do drive small vehicles for short journeys - so not many people can take stuff like that to a recycling centre themselves.

[–] obinice@lemmy.world 1 points 5 days ago

We put our old furniture/appliances out, and when the scrap man passes they take it away for free (or you can call the council and they'll take it away for free also).

I've got a couch out in my garden at the moment, council's taking it to the tip on Monday.

...Where are we supposed to leave it for pickup, on the roof?

[–] EditsHisComments@lemmy.world 30 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I mean, the British helped to make us

[–] samus12345@sh.itjust.works 9 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

They also helped to make Canada, Australia, and New Zealand, and they turned out better than we did.

[–] aeronmelon@lemmy.world 14 points 1 week ago

British: “You’re weak!”

Americans: “I’m you!”

[–] QuinnyCoded@sh.itjust.works 8 points 1 week ago (1 children)

i thought that was some sort of weird British mailbox but you're right that is just a refrigerator on their lawn lol

In his defense, he is doing his best to save the climate by keeping his refrigerator outside in the Winter!

This is a whole sub-genre in British tabloids. Absolute melts pointing at things with a sad or annoyed face.

Cannot for the life of me remember the collective term for them.

[–] panda_abyss@lemmy.ca 10 points 1 week ago (1 children)

[–] ogliver@lemmy.world 5 points 6 days ago

It's only one ball, actually.

[–] QuinnyCoded@sh.itjust.works 22 points 1 week ago (4 children)

also I feel like this area would be soo cozy without the fence and with a big tree to give some shade to rest under. maybe a hammock tied to the house or something too

[–] Soulphite@reddthat.com 12 points 1 week ago (2 children)

But then who's fuckin tree is it? Who's leaves when comes time to rake? Who's shade? This doesn't end.

[–] wreckedcarzz@lemmy.world 6 points 1 week ago

Will the real tree shady please stand up

The front garden is not space to get cozy in the UK, especially if you live somewhere where neighbours pose for compo face for the local paper, have a triple head crease at the head neck neutral zone, keep white goods or sofas in the front garden etc. I expect if you explore the area where this photo was taken, there is a pub with a flat roof and no other amenities than a chip shop, bookies, vape shop.

For the record, I absolutely love places like this

[–] SeventySeven@sh.itjust.works 4 points 1 week ago

In a perfect world they could remove the fence and plant a tree in the middle to mark the property line. Everybody wins!

Is this Snowman real? It looks so pretty

[–] icelimit@lemmy.ml 2 points 6 days ago

After one snowy night, next morning I saw neighbours had crafted a meticulous Totoro (from Ghibli) from the snow. With all his fur dimples or whatever they're called.

[–] Itdidnttrickledown@lemmy.world 7 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Don't be daft. His bins were there.
