This was a good one, I started here and landed with apple and soda.

They only sell Heineken, so I'm out of luck for other 0 beers. I'm not sure about the 0 spirits though, but I think it's also a no. Thanks for the recommendation.

Also as a separate thing, I won't buy Brewdog. I know this makes me seem really difficult with my list of things I won't drink:

  • Caffeine
  • Excessive sugar
  • Coke/Pepsi
  • Alcohol
  • Brewdog
  • ...

I'm doing my best to stop drinking, but my local only has Heineken 0 available. What else do you lot drink that I can reliably get in the pub, which isn't full of caffeine or sugar?

Water is about all I can think of but I'm wondering if there is something I can ask for that I'm overlooking. I'm hoping this will be like when I learned about pesto; I couldn't believe I had gone so long before eating it.

I've been getting more and more disappointed and this post is really good timing. I'm going to switch to summit based on some helpful comments here.

I was thinking today how cool it would be to live in a community that restricted technology to things no later than 2010.

I'm not sure exactly why but I can't think of anything after then that properly enriches my life.

If you could pick a date and create a real community around it, when would you choose?

You can't say tard on the internet! That word is offensive you stupid fucking cunt

It's the first time I've had chicks, they are 10 weeks old. It was hard work at times but I had a broody do most of the work. Now they are just part of the flock so it's a matter of waiting for eggs now. Most of the hard work was caused by me worrying more than anything. Experience definitely will help for next time.

She's a cream legbar. The flock is on grower pellets currently because there are pullets about, so the eggs have been a bit hit and miss recently. Usually they are light blue in colour and I get pure white ones from my Andalusian.

I never thought to weigh them.

I gave you a link to the resource library at the end of my message, if you prefer to use that then do.

I've tried to explain to you the complexity of the topic and why a community like this is worth engaging with, if that's not how you want to proceed then I wish you well.

If you are ever unsure about things after reading those resources, then you know you can always come back here.

There was a time when Stack Overflow was an amazing tech resource for unique or interesting problems, as the library of responses was reusable and could be updated with new responses and information over time. Users built trust with other users and getting a solution by direct engagement with a trustworthy user was invaluable.

Your response here is like the extremely unhelpful people who would respond with something like "read the documentation"

There is a lot of basic plant information on websites, but some of it is conflicting and it can be hard to trust. Diagnosis of a plant's problem is also difficult, especially if more than one issue is present at once. It is often preferable for someone to want to ask for people's opinion and have some engagement with other like minded people.

Communities like this are potentially the best part of the internet, so please don't consider asking here as some kind of burden, the more people ask the more people help, the better the community becomes. Over time, people become more experienced and potentially shift from the ones asking for help to the ones helping. That isn't unique to plants, it applies to any number of special interest communities.

Edit:

Also https://mander.xyz/post/692290 Check the side bar 😅

I get why people don't like it, but when I scroll lemmy and see a post which looks like it has a decent level of engagements I'm finding an endless stream of replies that are always the same.

"Is this ai?" "Looks like it might be ai" "Ai slop" "This is ai, look at the [feature]"

Communities should set a rule to allow ai or not. Allowing ai but it must be declared could be a decent approach.

If there isn't a rule in the community that prohibits ai, I really wish people would cool it.

I've hatched 6 eggs and got 2 roosters. I was thinking about keeping one if I can manage the noise and agree with my neighbours.

If I do go ahead, how do I deal with the inbreeding thing? I assume he is probably going to try mate with his sisters... Obviously I wouldn't hatch any of those eggs, but is it normal to just allow that kind of weirdness in the flock?

I had a small flock of 3 hens who all got along once the pecking order was figured out.

One day, a lower hen became broody and I allowed her to hatch a clutch of eggs. This broodyness made her a bit defensive and caused some issues with the top hen.

Once the eggs hatched I separated her and her chicks to a nursery space away from the other hens until I felt they were old enough to free range, ~4 weeks. I didn't move her while nesting because I was afraid of breaking her broodyness.

Gradually she became less and less protective and has now returned to laying eggs. The chicks are independent approaching 8 weeks, although still attached to the mother hen. They are still roosting/nesting separately to the other hens in the nursery coop.

When the bullying happens now, she submits immediately to the lead hen and has no protective urges for the chicks.

The issue is that the top hen isn't letting up and I'm concerned about what happens when the chicks become too big to fit in the nursery coop and everyone needs to roost together.

I've seen some recommendations to separate the one being bullied for awhile, others to separate the bully and others to let things play out. One thing I was potentially going to wait out was for the rooster chick(s) to grow up enough to police the hen fighting.

Any other suggestions here?

Do school kids still belt that out in assembly?

The knowledge of what these actually are, appears to have been lost to the ages. A modern tragedy equivalent to the burning of the library of Alexandria.

I have a load of filters set up on my feed, notably I don't want to see Trump or Elon.

Due to recent events, so much content is coming through that it is as if I don't have filters at all.

If the text or title doesn't include the key words, it can't be filtered. All the screenshots or posts with jokes or bad titles can't be filtered.

I think the only way proper filters could be achieved is with a separate 'tags' field that could be added to or voted on by community members.

This might all seem like a lot of effort, but feed filters are such a good feature that I think it would be worth it.

I don't want unreasonable perfection for the filters, but the system seems too flawed at the moment.

I have no idea where this kind of discussion or decision would be made so I'm just throwing it out as a question here.

There are lots of issues I have with them in terms of privacy, but I'm going to be very specific in asking about a certain situation and would prefer to stay on that topic if possible.

I have seen someone showing AI glasses which allow the wearer to cheat at chess. The glasses provide the wearer with computer engine moves, essentially making them unbeatable against even the strongest grand masters.

How can someone prevent this from happening, for example in a tournament match?

I don't consider this as being an issue at the highest level of professional play, but for club and casual players they might not have the resources to deal with this.

Currently the camera and/or screen information might be fairly obvious just by looking, but assuming technology improves this could become harder to detect.

Retrospectively, it would be easy to spot a cheater and correct results, however this still spoils things by having the cheating in the first place.

It isn't realistic to ask people to play without glasses, and I'm not aware of any way to stop cameras or ai from functioning.

So what can be done, if anything?

Monstera Help 🥺 (lemmy.world)

I just noticed this, what should I do? Sorry for the vague question but I can't find any good articles on what this is.

Everything I find starts the same way "top 8 reasons for brown leaves". Then says too much water, not enough water, too much light not enough light too much fertilizer not enough, wrong kind of fertilizer and so on and so on. That isn't helpful! Do I just have to guess? Why is all plant knowledge basically voodoo?

I'm tempted to take a cutting so I have a spare to try again if it all goes wrong, but the plant only has 5 leaves, so I'm stressing out.

First I want to say hello, I have only 3 lovely chickens to start off with as I learn the ropes.

Secondly, my neighbours son is absolutely obsessed with the chickens. It's really nice, but he is also feeding them huge amounts of wild bird seed and I'm a little worried. There are mounds of the stuff being poured over the fence!

I have spoken to his parents nicely and asked them to stop him doing so, which they understand.

In case this doesn't get resolved quickly, is there any danger that this can cause harm to my chickens?

Any idea what this is? Many leaves are dying on the plant, wondering if there is a way to save it. I have forgotten the name of the plant, but will update when I find it.
