Breadtube if it didn't suck.

Post videos you genuinely enjoy and want to share, duh. Celebrate the diversity of interests shared by chapochatters by posting a deep dive into Venetian kelp farming, I dunno. Also media criticism, bite-sized versions of left-wing theory, all the stuff you expected. But I am curious about that kelp farming thing now that you mentioned it.

Low effort / spam videos might be removed, especially weeb content.

There is a cytube that you can paste videos into and watch with whoever happens to be around. It's open submission unless there's something important to commandeer it with at the time.

A weekly watch party happens every Saturday (Sunday down under), with video nominations Saturday-Monday, voting Monday-Thursday. See the pin for whatever stage it's currently in.

Despite the title, the video isn't actually about how cheap the country is and how cool that is for tourists. This YouTuber is best known for traveling all over China on a motorbike and showing what life is like for locals, highlighting the unique parts of their culture, etc. She talks with folks about the sanctions that cause their economic situation. Recommend this video and her entire channel.

This is a big vibe shift from her. I've watched more than a hundred of her videos and never seen her discuss politics in anywhere close to this detail. The most I've seen is "since the USSR fell relationships have been a bit strained" or something. For her to make two consecutive videos so explicitly making a political case to get audience shows how seriously she takes imperialism against Iran and indicates a lot about her other politics. I appreciate this very much.

Absolutely, it's very touching to see how dedicated she is to portraying the Iranian people how they actually are, and showing how much hardship the sanctions put them through. I actually teared up at the end. I'm glad (but not surprised) that she isn't a lib.

also for people wondering how people can pay more rent than their salary (besides multiple income households), you can usually deduct rent by putting a deposit for a year (which acts like a no interest loan in a high inflation environment). the common formula for it is for every 100 million toman in deposit (600$), subtract 3 million (18$) from rent. so for example a 50 meter squared flat in tehran with an average rent of 24 million toman (145$) would be 800 million (4800$) deposit with no rent for a year, or 12 million (70$) monthly rent with 400 million (2400$) deposit for a year.

"wait no the average salary isn't 150 it's 200 right?" *checks conversion prices avgn-horror

also incredibly small error at the end so excuse my pedantry (it's a common belief here so it's fine), it's not "fake" pepsi or coke. it's made by the same company that used to have the licence for both pepsi and coke. they don't anymore (no one does because sanctions) but they really haven't changed the formula. yes it probably tastes slightly different but similar to mexican coke it's because of different formulation for local ingredient availability and different market research.

"removed ching" i hate my fucking country visible-disgust

I'm pretty sure she's a communist party member, she's cool.

Is there any evidence for this? I'd love to see it

She's said some communist stuff in the past, generally she tries to aim for a mainstream "normal" audience. There's also the fact that she's interviewed a lot of party members in China, some were even pretty high up. Not concrete proof but regardless she's fun to watch

There's this one video she did in a minority region in Southern China where her companion was a badass motorcycle riding woman from a tier 1 city. She was teaching Yen how to drink according to local customs, slamming booze with the village elders, and talking about all the local development. She couldn't more obviously have been a party cadre on rural assignment.

Fuck I didn't know anything about that, that's amazing

This video is an excellent showcase of the effects of the sanctions against Iran (obv the reason things are "cheap" which she explicitly describes)
