Trump is an idiot and personifies what idiots think success looks like...

Almost everything he has done is backfiring spectacularly for the USA, the only thing he seems to be actually successful at is grifting

Muricans... enjoy the cliff

[–] edm@thelemmy.club 31 points 2 days ago (2 children)

Yea it is crazy how dumb the average American is.

[–] joekar1990@lemmy.world 25 points 2 days ago (2 children)

It's what happens when you cut education for the past 30-50years and take curiosity out of learning.

[–] madde@feddit.org 2 points 1 day ago

Or when > 50 % of your children already have already been exposed to harmful amount of lead (which is a known toxic substance to brain development). https://jamanetwork.com/journals/jamapediatrics/fullarticle/2784260

But at least the children weren't left behind

And yet literally the exact same trend is happening here all over Europe: education system decline (less students enrolled in secondary, number of schools declining, teacher:child ratios increasing, increased teachers quitting or burned out), huge increase in fascist and right wing support all over Europe, anti-science and anti-vax movements starting to pop up and grow, huge decrease in union memberships, especially among young people, and worker rights being slowly degraded.

This is exactly how it started in America, and before people say "that is because of american culture and propaganda exports", that could very well be, but it doesn't change the fact that it is happening here and the same trend of people becoming more uneducated and dumber is happening. In 20 years we will be as dumb as america if the trend accelerates.

Plus, with the rise of corpo-fascist movements in the EU, people are already stupid enough to vote squarely against their own interests to spite someone they hate.

In my opinion, the greatest weapon you have is EU based open source software to replace all Apple, Microsoft, and Google services and products.

[–] jabjoe@feddit.uk 6 points 1 day ago

100% yes. Open source is not missing this:

Or the more technological political:

There is an opportunity here to wake people up to how shit so much of tech is and how to improve them. Before it was just nerds and economists who complained of the stifling of competition by the monopolies. Now it's geopolitical and more and more obvious to more and more people.

Y’all need a European Apple. Pear? Plum? Apricot? A hardware nemesis that actually competes on quality and not just racing to the bottom.

[–] vga@sopuli.xyz 2 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Jolla?

Problem with not racing to the bottom is that you need a shitton of money to accomplish that. And you know where the money is. Mostly not in Europe.

[–] TwinTitans@lemmy.world 9 points 1 day ago

It’s really a “buy anything that’s not American but buy Canadian if you can”. Just bought a bunch of new German hand tools. Couldn’t be happier.

[–] Grandwolf319@sh.itjust.works 20 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Greetings from buy Canadian

[–] ikidd@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago

European is acceptable as well.

[–] atro_city@fedia.io 28 points 2 days ago

I only wish this reached normal people. Most normal people seem to not give 2 shits about buying European. They don't even try to care. But I do love that the media is making it a thing.

[–] stoy@lemmy.zip 29 points 2 days ago (1 children)

The US is used to having it's millitary equipment subsidized by foreign buyers, now they are looking elsewhere.

I mean having ten flying Gripens is better than having 20 F-35s stuck on the ground because the US didn't approve your mission plans and upload them to the fighters from their servers.

[–] i078@europe.pub 23 points 2 days ago

While your statement is correct, however per euro you get at least 2 gripens per F35 so the actual case is even more in favour of the gripen

Any good European producers of non enamelled cast iron kitchenware?

[–] gravitas_deficiency@sh.itjust.works 16 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

From this list (which I am going to save, because I hadn’t come across it before):

  • AUS-ION 🇦🇺
  • Le Creuset 🇫🇷
  • Skeppshult 🇸🇪
  • Staub 🇫🇷 (some produced in 🇨🇳)
  • The Windmill Cast Iron 🇳🇱 (produced in 🇨🇳)
  • Victoria Cookware 🇨🇦
[–] Korhaka@sopuli.xyz 1 points 2 days ago (3 children)

Isn't Le Creuset only enamelled cast iron? They have a shop near me and the windows are full of a rainbow selection of different coloured enamelled pans. Victoria their pans are printed with made in Colombia but interesting to know its a Canadian owner. Will take a look at some of the others.

[–] zod000@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 points 2 days ago

Le Creuset

They make non-enameled products, but they are most known for their really nice (and expensive) enameled stuff.

I think they have some un-enameled stuff too

[–] panda_abyss@lemmy.ca 1 points 2 days ago

I have a frying pan set from them, made in Portugal.

It works as you would expect any frying pans to work. The stainless steel pan has some core to distribute heat.

[–] boonhet@sopuli.xyz 1 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

I can't say yet if it's good or not because it's my first cast iron skillet and I've had it for a bit less than half a year, but so far I'm very happy with Maku and the price is good compared to some others I've seen on sale. Family-owned Finnish company based in Tampere, but also available here in Estonia. Don't know about their availability in other countries.

From their "Sustainability" page:

Maku products are manufactured in Europe, Finland and the Far East in factories that, if located in a high-risk country, are committed to the amfori BSCI Code of Conduct by signing the document or are audited by a third party. We use the amfori Country Risk Classification as our risk country classification.

Edit: Now looking at it apparently it is enamelled cast iron.

[–] Zombie@feddit.uk 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I know nothing about this company but the statement that all is good because some manager has signed a document is a bit ridiculous

[–] boonhet@sopuli.xyz 2 points 1 day ago

Oh I just copied that bit along with the bit that some shit is still made in Finland, to convey that not all of it is.

[–] HumanOnEarth@lemmy.ca 10 points 2 days ago

Damn, almost two weeks early!

[–] ChicoSuave@lemmy.world 6 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Trump's a Russian agent and this was always part of the plan

[–] imrighthere@lemmy.ca 5 points 2 days ago

Yeah, you're telling this to people who were screaming 'i'd rather be a russian than a democrat'.
