Turns out the insurance company and the dealership have very different definitions about what "delivering" a car is. Last minute dash in the pelting rain from Frankston to Preston (and a dealership I would never, ever choose because wow) and Yasi the grey i30n is home with me. Last second worry aside, I definitely came out on top and tbh, would recommend Budget Direct to anyone who needed car insurance. Cannot believe how unbelievably kind, upbeat and friendly everyone I spoke to was, across multiple teams. Happy to be DONE with this!!!

Congrats!!

The new car process was soooo uncoordinated and stressful when I went through it last year. I don’t get how it’s so all over the place! Worth the perseverance though.

[–] SituationCake@aussie.zone 4 points 1 day ago

Congratulations! Hope you enjoy it!

Alone time dins:

Now the question that keeps me up at night is where should the tomato go. Above the lettuce but below the patty, or above the patty potentially inundating the top part of the bun.

[–] SituationCake@aussie.zone 4 points 1 day ago

I usually do patty, cheese, (optional layer pickles), tomato, lettuce, and condiments on the top bun. But it does get unstable, so maybe I’ll try lettuce on the bottom next time. I think it would work.

[–] Seagoon_@aussie.zone 5 points 1 day ago (1 children)

like this

mustard or tomato sauce, lettuce, patty, cheese, egg, bacon, tomato

[–] SpinMeAround@aussie.zone 3 points 1 day ago

I was taught that bacon touching the bun is a big no no, makes the bun soggy. But that was also school lunches where they would sit for 3+ hours so shrug

For me tomato goes on top of the cheese. Then I pepper & salt it.

[–] tone212_@aussie.zone 4 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

For me I like the tomato above the patty & cheese, but not the very top layer. I’ve never considered placing below, I will try this next time and report.

Melbcat is going back to hospital for iv fluids. But it’s not looking good.

Edit: They’re saying it’s acute kidney injury from a uti on top of the chronic condition so they’ll try to clear it. One vet was pessimistic and the other optimistic so I really don’t know.

I think they’re each talking about short term vs long term outcomes. The hospital is trying to clear up the resistant infection in hopes she can recover from the acute kidney damage (though the chronic damage is permanent). They may stabilise her this time, I really hope so, but as the pessimistic vet said this could become a cycle and then it’s a question of how far to take it.

[–] SituationCake@aussie.zone 4 points 1 day ago

It’s so hard. I’m hoping for the best.

[–] tombruzzo@aussie.zone 4 points 1 day ago

Take each day as it comes. Give melbcat a chance, they just might bounce back

[–] SpinMeAround@aussie.zone 4 points 1 day ago

Sending loads of love!!

ohh poor kitty.

[–] RustyRaven@aussie.zone 7 points 1 day ago

πŸ«‚

I'm so sorry to hear that. Uncertainty and waiting are really hard to deal with. When my dog was going through something similar I had to take a week off work because I just couldn't focus on anything. Be kind to yourself and try not to put too much pressure on yourself to do anything at the moment.

[–] Eagle@aussie.zone 7 points 1 day ago

Oh no. Keeping you both in my thoughts.

Made it down the bellarine w/ about 10mins to spare until it poured.

EVERY downpipe was overflowing. Walked around the downpipes and PANIK.

Flushed the system when it was shitting down and that fixed most of it.

[–] Seagoon_@aussie.zone 5 points 1 day ago

I have to steal that πŸ™€

[–] SpinMeAround@aussie.zone 2 points 1 day ago

Was thinking of you while watching the radar!! Hope it was the therapy you needed!

[–] CEOofmyhouse56@aussie.zone 8 points 1 day ago (3 children)

I made quinoa. I think I have had it before but thought it was another type of cous cous. I cooked it in my rice cooker with a sprinkle of Vegeta. It was very good. 5/5 yum yums.

dinner

[–] Force_majeure1234@aussie.zone 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I'm not a fan of most of the "heavier" (?) carbs, like brown rice, because I feel like they sit in my stomach like a brick and make me feel sick. That said, I don't mind a little kin-no-ah mixed into a salad or something. Dinner looks yum

YESSS

one more nagging task done πŸ‘I can do this. πŸ™‚

also, as part of my UnKAOS I am catching up with health and self care, sooo, do all the allergy testing before I go on a weight loss diet seems the sensible thing to do

weight loss will help with so much and allergies are making me miserable

I love this for you! Carn Seagoon! You got this!

[–] SituationCake@aussie.zone 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I have to get some tips from you on motivation. So often I feel like the kaos in my life is endlessly growing, and even though I hate it I just can’t motivate myself to fix it. Sigh.

[–] Seagoon_@aussie.zone 2 points 1 day ago

I am wresting my life back after having it derailed by others

i feel hopeless so often but at least I am making rational decisions for myself, not just reacting to crazy making relatives, and i can't see the good of it yet but it will come, bit by bit, like a giant ship changing direction

so my motivation, a better future, but also for mr seagoon and miss seagoon

I am making habits, getting self discipline, so that when I don't feel like doing things I will still do them

There are some people at the vets consulting on a 57 year old cockatoo.

[–] SituationCake@aussie.zone 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Wow. I guess if you have a cockatoo, it needs to be a multi-generational pet. They live so long.

[–] RustyRaven@aussie.zone 2 points 1 day ago

This one had originally belonged to his mother and was with another family member before coming to them.

I think tortoises are the only longer lived pet. Funnily enough there was also a turtle at the vet today, I felt very boring with my cat.

I use Google photos to backup my pics and every now and again it'll give me something like this.

Big thanks to everyone yesterday for the advice and support.

Gonna take a breather and head down the bellarine and look at gutters / downpipes in the rain. Seems about the most productive thing I can do atm.

Today's to do list:

  1. Take Miss Meow to the vet for her checkup.
  2. Maybe do a bit of gardening if the weather is ok. Or just whatever I feel like really.

"Es Regnet" as they say in parts of Former Bohemia
