In a new opinion released Friday, Texas AG Ken Paxton has effectively prohibited therapists from treating trans kids—unless they try to convert them.

This is conversion therapy, which is recognized by the United Nations as being tantamount to torture.

Man, I'm so glad the people who educate themselves on the patterns and functions of the human mind are being disallowed to treat people in the way they see best and instead politicians are making those decisions.

If there's someone that I want to make those decisions, it's a guy with little to no experience or understanding in the situations he's legislating upon.

We're just going backwards on queer rights faster than Epstein's jet.

Just once I'd like one of these people subjected to what they put children through

Ok this is horrible and all, but also why is the attorney general basically the dictator of Texas? He keeps announcing wild stretches of laws with vicious punishment and for some reason nobody seems able to stop him

He has no opposition. The governor and LT governor (texas is weird about governors) are both close allies, and the republican party has had a stranglehold on state level politics for decades at this point.

What he is really doing here is threatening to sue if people don't fall in line. If someone actually fights him in court they might win, but the vast majority of people are not ready and willing to start a legal battle with the state.

Posturing before the Republican primary runoff.

It's disgusting that this man issues an opinion like this. It's worse that some Texas voters would prefer him because of this B.S. The party of limited government, of parental rights, of individual responsibility: right there at the forefront of telling people who they can be, against their own will, that of their parents, and that of medical professionals.

One brave soul, Texas.
