About

Archaeology or archeology[a] is the study of human activity through the recovery and analysis of material culture. The archaeological record consists of artifacts, architecture, biofacts or ecofacts, sites, and cultural landscapes.

Archaeology has various goals, which range from understanding culture history to reconstructing past lifeways to documenting and explaining changes in human societies through time.

The discipline involves surveying, excavation, and eventually analysis of data collected, to learn more about the past. In broad scope, archaeology relies on cross-disciplinary research. Read more...

  1. Don't throw mud. Be kind and remember the human.
  2. Keep it rooted (on topic).
  3. No spam.
  4. No pseudoscience/pseudoarchaeology.

"The deceptive practices used to smuggle these treasures into the United States not only violate our import laws but also undermine efforts to preserve and protect the integrity of cultural history."

Are they going to return them?

[–] pulsewidth@lemmy.world 53 points 2 days ago (2 children)

Yes, it says in the article that the British Museum misplaced them a few years back and is so glad they've finally turned up.

I'm glad they trademarked history to be honest.

Of course artifacts need a vacation from time to time but they always come back home.

White people and looting Mesopotamia. Iconic duo, yes?

[–] JamesTBagg@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago

Mesopotamia isn't in Iran, but I understand your point.
