Welcome to the News community!

Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.

5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, blogs, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

If there is no IRS...just keep the 60% they try and recoup?

[–] HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world 4 points 9 hours ago (1 children)

10%, but i am ethically obligated to tell you not to play the audit lottery

if you are paying 50% income tax in statesia please DM me with your location, i can find you a qualified professional to help. None of my clients had an effective tax rate (state and federal combined) higher than 27%. I'm not practicing anymore but again, if you are paying 50% we can cut that by a lot.

There still is IRS for poor people. They just don't have enough people to audit the rich.

[–] Clent@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 9 hours ago (1 children)

Yep. All the tax events we do are reported directory to the IRS. The audit system knows what we owe and will triggered letters and eventually garnishments.

It's why is so ridiculous they don't autofile. No some free form system but literally just send it to use an invoice.

Imagine if our utilities work this. Oops you miss read your water meter, here's an update bill with fees and interest automatically added. Oh, you don't have the funds? No problem, we've drained all your bank accounts.

what's obscene is that they got rid of free file.

My 401k is completely gone. My wife left me hi and dry about a year and a half ago and I've been unable to find employment. So I burned thru my 401k and now I have no idea how I'm gonna make rent next month.

Fuck man…I’m sorry and wish things improve for you, quickly.

Thanks. I've been trying everything I can think of. On top of sending out resumes, I've got a YT channel, an Esty page(photography), and an IT Gumroad page. I was hoping I could generate some income that way but still got nothing on those either. IDK what I'm going to do. I have no family or friends to lean on. :/

[–] partofthevoice@lemmy.zip 1 points 5 hours ago

Are you okay sharing the YT channel from this account?

What about temporary gig jobs like Uber/Lyft/DoorDash?

We need more of this. I bought my SO stickers for Christmas. Time to put them everywhere.

Bonus points if you put a bit of super glue on the back

[–] nova_ad_vitum@lemmy.ca 15 points 18 hours ago (1 children)

Why is the thumbnail Garry Kasparov lol

[–] AdolfSchmitler@lemmy.world 2 points 8 hours ago (1 children)

I was thinking the exact same thing lol.

Maybe they searched for an image of "someone thinking" and that popped up.

[–] mcv@lemmy.zip 2 points 7 hours ago

It's not just the thumbnail. The photo is in the article, captioned "More Americans than ever are turning to 401(k) withdrawals to make ends meet".

I don't think Kasparov was ever naturalised to American, was he? It's a weirdly misplaced photo.

Why is there a picture of Garry Chess, the inventor of Chess?
