I blame ordinary Americans
Seyed Abbas Araghchi is an appointed spokesperson of the government of Iran. It's kind of cringe that he said "vote". I don't think he's trying to absolve US of blame. I think he's trying to stoke an anti-war movement among people of the US.
He's not saying that Israel is the only party to be blamed. He's pointing out that Israel attacked Iran first because Israel wants to control the whole West Asia region just as much as the US does.
Blame all who cares, there's enough blame to go around and the america/isreal duo has enough space for all of us to blame them. Citizens, governments, It's "and" not "either or"
Seriously. I'm from the US and for my entire life all of our so called leaders have been publically salivating for the chance to attack Iran. Israel has been awful, but I'm not gonna pretend like it was them and only them who wanted this
Yeah I blame anyone who's ever said an unkind word about Iran in the last 30 years
I was young and stupid okay?
Americans should blame Israel full stop.
Shouldn't have taken this long to see who the real enemy is. Hint: when your government is being manipulated, it's probably best to find out how and by who.
Wouldn't be a bad idea to find out how much it might cost in terms of life, wealth and power.
Mate Israel is the US' dog on a leash, not the other way around.
Britain is another dog on a leash. Flights currently bombing the middle east are coming from British bases and don't get me started on how half the reconaissance flights over Gaza providing targeting to the Israelis were British flights too.
Our country hides it better but British hands are just as bloody.
I don't doubt British hands are bloody too, not for one second. I know how dirty they are. I'm specifically talking about this instance. Israel have manipulated events.
The US is not doing anything the US doesn't want to be doing. The US is not being controlled by Israel, Israel is shouldering the blame to enable the western empire to crush its opponents. There is a reason they ALL support it, the entire west. Gaza, Iran, Hezbollah, Yemen's houthis, they are the remaining holdouts that have not fallen into line with what the western empire wants, pursuing their own freedom and regional sovereignty.
Same goes for the attack on Venezuela, same goes for the coming attack on Cuba, and same goes for the DPRK, Russia and China to follow.
You must zoom out and look at everything hollistically. These are not individual actions by one nation. They are the actions of an empire without a name collectively bidden by the billionaires and hedgefunds that control it. The primary contradiction in the world today is that of imperialism by this empire against those that resist it and support real sovereignty. This empire aims to have everything, everywhere, under its control. Those that oppose it and seek not to do so are eliminated.
The populations of the west don't support it. But that doesn't matter. The ruling class does.
I'm kinda sick of Americans once again looking for an excuse to absolve themselves of another war. This is straight out of the US playbook of destabilisation and then exploitation. Blame Israel all you want, but this is what the United States (and other Western powers) does.
I get that flagellation of americans is the norm, but the US support for the Iran war was 27% as of a week ago and will likely fall further as atrocities continue, whereas the Jewish Israeli support is 93% (arab israelis are just slightly less pro-war than the average american, with 26% support level). The war is far more in the interests of one country and it's population than the other's and i don't get why there's this insistence to endlessly pretend that it's not.
Because this isn't about whether it benefits the US population. Venezuela, Syria, Libya, Afghanistan, Iraq, Vietnam, etc. did not benefit the US population, regardless of the varying levels of US public support for the action.
This war on Iran does have the potential to benefit and maintain US hegemony, the Dollar and US capital. A weak Iran is a benefit to the US empire. A strong, independent Iran hinders it.
Yeah this. Israel is a pawn. A very powerful one, perhaps the US most important pawn. But Israel does not control the US. The US has the power here. It makes no sense for Israel to somehow be controlling the US. The whole "Israel controls the US " narrative is just another convenient thing that Isreal does in support of US interests. They're quite happy to be a useful scapegoat in this instance because it helps placate the American public and keep their genocide engine moving
Israel is a pawn.
I want to say that I hate the frequency of chess analogies that I've seen in media recently. However, if we must use a chess analogy in this situation, Israel is not a pawn. A pawn is a defensive structure, with low aggression capabilities. A pawn has low piece value, there are 10 of them, they move slowly, and can only attack 2 squares.
Israel is not a pawn, Israel would be a high value, aggressive piece, like a rook or maybe even the Queen. Israel attacked Iran first this year. Israel attacked first last year. Israel attacked Lebanon, Yemen, Syria, Gaza, the list goes on. This is not to say that Israel controls the US or that the US controls Israel. Israel has it's own ambitions. Israel wants to control the entire region just as much as the US does.
Pawns are low value, defensive structures which are typically used to protect the king from attack. Pawns would be like Mexico and Canada. The land masses of Mexico and Canada prevent the US from being counter-attacked.
There's 8 pawns
Um... Ok India, UK, Taiwan, South Korea. We got two more to make the analogy sound, then we have to sort out the back row.
Germany, Australia?
Sure that works
You are right.
A pawn can be whatever you want it to be when you push it to the end of the table. I think it's a perfect example. Israel pretends to be weak but in actuality is whatever the US needs it to be
You both make good points, I think the best take I've read is that the relationship between
and
is dialectical
The synthesis is
synthesis: Israel is a pawn that has been promoted to a queen by making it across the board.
Americans are at this stage global terrorists, that's not up for debate, Israel are imo in this instance manipulating Trump, who didn't need much persuasion tbf, but it definitely looks like Israel are pulling the strings, leading the way so far. And drawing the guidelines.
