If you don't mind messing with LaTeX, something like ModernCV on overleaf.com looks really nice

It's an open source document preparation system. Essentially a typesetting language that produces good looking pdfs. It's the de facto standard for e.g. scientific publications.

It's not as simple as a "what you see is what you get" editor like Word, but a lot more powerful. It can be relatively simple to get started with by messing with a template on Overleaf.com, but it has quite a learning curve if you want to typeset documents from scratch.

Why do you even need a template?

We used to get given a fair few CV's across the various bars I've worked at, any CV that was created with a template went straight in the bin.

If that person was too lazy to create a fairly basic document, then what sort of worker would they be?

I'm neurodiverse. It's really not easy for me

If what you need is a template for content structure, there's a bunch of examples on youtube and in articles for how you could write it.

If what you need is a template for appearance rather than content order, i actually haven't gotten around to that myself. I had heard you can just make it minimal (which maybe helps with AI screening...?) And I heard all the fancy designs are behind paywalls/free trials, but microsoft word has a bunch of them and I've played around with those.

If it's advise for content structure: I can (in the morning) DM you an example of my latest CV with identifying details removed if that's helpful - I only have student experience and it hasn't gotten me into any jobs yet but careers advisors have said it's okay/good and guided me towards the structure i currently use. I have 2 versions: a shorter one for applying to general part time work, and a longer one (citing uni projects) for applying to internships.

Maybe other lemmy users with more professional experience than me could do the same thing. Helps to see what other people have made.
