A place for optimism, relentless positivity, anti-doomerism, and snuggle sessions.

We're all in this together, and a better world is possible!

This is now also a space for organizing tips for our collective survival as we confront climate change and everything else. Still no doom-posting. We're here to work together, support each other, and boldly face the future.

Rules:

  1. Familiarize yourself with the site-wide Code of Conduct

  2. No doom, no gloom, only bloom. There's plenty of room for doomerism elsewhere. This community is solely for having a positive outlook on the future and spreading good vibes.

  3. Be kind to your fellow users. This also means no arguing in the comm. Arguments and negativity are not conducive to blooming. Constructive discussion is good. No interest-policing. Support your comrades in their joy!

  4. Always share good news. We can't exactly enforce this one, but if you have good news, please share it with us! Keeping happiness and positivity to yourself is the twelfth type of liberalism.

Time for another bloomer thread in which we post about the good stuff. Be it something big, like a major breakthrough with your org, some good news you want to share, or even something small like "hey, look at this cute bug!". This is a thread where we take a short moment to spread some joy in some very dark times. So if you have something nice to share, share it!

Did you see this cobweb!!! I shared in general mega. It was big. Big as my torso at the very least. Bigger even. It was like a lace dress hanging between the trees

It looks like something from a fairy tale niko-wonderous

At long last, I have assembled all of the extremely complex paperwork and Xi willing, will be submitting my immigration application soon.

[–] Dort_Owl@hexbear.net 9 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Good luck! Immigration sounds complicated.

The Chinese created bureaucracy and it sure does show. It's not changing citizenship, not that I would want to be a PRC citizen anyway. But it is permanent residency, what Americans call a green card, even though they haven't been green for over a half century. Once in the Shanghai consulate while in line I watched a man come in and turn in his US green card. The State Department official was shocked. "You know how hard these are to get, right?" she said. He nodded, handed it over, and walked out without another word.
That always stuck in my head.

Lol insha'Xi

I don't think Arabic has a sound close to X in pinyin, otherwise I'd try to make a funny calligraphy of this

[–] xijinpingist@hexbear.net 7 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

It's like She but instead of using the tongue TIP, you use the tongue BLADE.
Pinyin is dumb, Taiwan has another system called bopomofo that is much more accurate but uses alien symbols instead of Latin letters.

[–] MLRL_Commie@hexbear.net 3 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Bopomofo sounds pretty fake lol. If I Google this will you end up laughing at me???

I know how to pronounce mandarin lol, and Arabic too, but neither have the ability to write many of the sounds in the other, unfortunately. Chinese has so many retroflex, and Arabic none. But Arabic has a ton of pharyngealized sounds, and Chinese none. Could just write it like 'sh' of course.

Bwoh-pwoh-mwoh-fwoh is how all Taiwanese children are taught. It's like hiragana, a bunch of symbols. Pinyin uses Latin letters. It's hard to say which is worse. IPA can fuck all the way off.

They've been imposing limits on free-to-play and I don't like look of their website anymore. I used to be able to play without an account. more and more web based platforms are getting rid of that now.

In bloomer news, (or possible disappointment, I'm hopeful still) my org is having a major party debate about the stance toward Socialism with Chinese Characteristics in which I see many people now starting to say like "what use is it to denounce China when China-making could be used as a recruitment tool if we take a neutral/supportive stance". This makes me happy because I have no other option for a party worth my time.

The ideology team at the national level has been putting out hit-pieces and me and some comrades are working to challenge the pieces on scholarship and content in order to improve the party. It's a slow moving machine, but that's how democratic centralism can work when previous ideological mistakes must be corrected.

I hope this isn't too gloomy (feel free to remove it mods), just need to get off my chest:

I understand depression (I have it) but I legitimately can't understand people who just seem to think that humanity is just going to collectively give up.

There are a shit ton of bad things going on, but I keep seeing people with these concerns and takes that only make any amount of sense if the person saying them truly thinks that humanity collectively is just going to roll over and lie face down in the mud while the specific thing they're worried about goes to hell.

I just can't imagine looking at the breadth of human history, invention, ingenuity, creativity, etc and going "No, what's going on now is so significantly different that we're all just fucked." Some of us, maybe, but the whole collective of humanity?

Get out of here.
