Emotional support tea

[–] Einskjaldi@lemmy.world 1 points 15 hours ago

Some cup warmers are pretty big fire hazard, because they only have a simple pressure switch they can easily fall behind a table and stay on and burn stuff

[–] grue@lemmy.world 8 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Haha, sucks for you; I don't have that problem. My tea stays warm!

spoiler

(It started off with ice in it.)

Put it in a Yeti, problem solved. Those cupwarmers are neat tho

[–] SatansMaggotyCumFart@piefed.world 10 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Oh man I have two of those and the other day I took a sip of chunky coffee because it was the week old one that I forgot about.

[–] panda_abyss@lemmy.ca 6 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

lol that’s the worst

I hope your immune system got stronger from the workout (and that you didn’t get sick)

If you have any sugar in your drink (including: milk, fruit tea) you need to rinse it out daily or you will get a rotten stank/flavor that doesn’t seem to wash out.

To get rid of it, you just need to remove any seals and soak everything in warm water with a little denture cleaner or oxi-clean. I usually just put the gaskets inside the cup with a little cleaner, set the lid on, and fill it until it just starts to overflow. This will also remove any tea/coffee stains and you can use those to gauge whether it has soaked long enough.

If a smell doesn't wash out of your glasses and cups it means they're either made of semiporous materials and you need new ones before you're poisoned or there's crevices with rotting debris in them... And you need to clean them out before you're poisoned.

[–] SatansMaggotyCumFart@piefed.world 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Yeah I don't try to leave it full I just forget about it sometimes.

Oh I get it. My Darling will find cups or even full meals in the microwave that I left there days ago.

[–] dime577@fedinsfw.app 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Yeah, I typically hate brand name stuff, but 100% of my knockoff tumblers and bottles have had their vacuum fail in under a year while my free yeti has been going strong for 5 years.

I actually have to add cold water or ice to be able to drinking it within 2 hours.

[–] DragonTypeWyvern@midwest.social 1 points 15 hours ago (1 children)

Don't wash the knockoffs in a dishwasher, the cheaper seals can't handle the expansion and contraction. If you're not willing to hand wash you need to buy quality which isn't necessarily Yeti but you'll need to do research.

Top rack with the dryer heat off is much easier on them if you do

[–] panda_abyss@lemmy.ca 5 points 1 day ago (2 children)

I’m tempted to buy one of those battery heated coffee mugs, but they all use an app and seem terrible for the environment.

[–] ButteryMonkey@piefed.social 2 points 1 day ago

You can use a plug-in candle warmer to fairly good effect, as long as you start with hot liquid.

[–] DarrinBrunner@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

There's a $40 one sold at Walmart, Ion brand, no app at all, plugs in the wall, not USB.

It worked well... for about a year. The metal contacts on the bottom corroded, and the battery duration dropped. I'm using a four-dollar candle warmer now, it's the better choice.

This one:

candle warmer! that's what they're called! thank you

i am a smell pot person. simmer the smell pot. can't remember what they're called. diy potpourri type tingy. i've been thinking about how i could get a small one back by the computer without having to figure out wtf is wrong with my damned hot plate

[–] Coelacanth@feddit.nu 4 points 1 day ago (2 children)

I bought an Ember Mug and despite it being pretty pricey I haven't regretted it one bit.

[–] DScratch@sh.itjust.works 6 points 1 day ago (1 children)

My partner and I got one each. She stopped using hers so now I have one on charge all the time.

Also! If your charging base contact pins get sticky and corroded, a spray of WD-40 and some light poking fixes them right up, and seems to delay further issues.

[–] FireRetardant@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago

Preemptive dielectric grease could be a good option for the pins

[–] panda_abyss@lemmy.ca 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I’m so tempted by these things.

I drink a lot of cold coffee because I forget I have coffee.

[–] Coelacanth@feddit.nu 1 points 1 day ago

I get that they aren't cheap but the quality of life for me was so worth it.

I keep 3-4 cups at work..

One short stout thermal mug that won’t tip over when I forget where it is and hit it.

1-2 narrower thermal mugs (in case I forget one at home) that will fit in my car cup holders to transfer any tea I forgot to finish at the end of the day. Or just for a fresh road cup.

One ceramic mug to reheat in the microwave any that I left too long in the steeper or with the lid off the thermal mug.

[–] towerful@programming.dev 2 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Thank you for reminding me I still haven't bought a new water bottle after I lost my last one!

[–] Samskara@sh.itjust.works 2 points 13 hours ago* (last edited 13 hours ago)

Get a Sigg WMB ONE. It comes in different plain colors as well, different sizes, and thermos versions. It’s the best water bottle line I have found.

[–] HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

if you're by Placerville I left a blue one up there you can have

[–] FireRetardant@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I recently started using my travel mug even when at home. Keeps it warm enough to drink for several hours and has a lid for when i inevitably knock it over.

[–] ButteryMonkey@piefed.social 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I tried this with tea, as a regular coffee drinker, and immediately burned my mouth off. It doesn’t cool down the same speed as my coffee in the same mug, because there’s no milk added to pre-cool it.

If I try it again it would have to be cooled with ice, and I probably will because I don’t like cold tea much, but if I wait for it to cool on its own I’m likely to overshoot and end up with cold tea.

[–] FireRetardant@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

I have used ice in the past but usually i just leave the lid off for a bit if the beverage is too hot.
