Did he consider that if his prayer was granted, he'd get a lightning bolt right up his own ass?

Little Lindsey "Tinkerbell" Graham takes notes...

Just like Jesus wanted!

There’s so many Christian’s that are going to Hell

[–] Redditmodstouchgrass@lemmy.zip 3 points 3 hours ago

As a total atheist, the older I get the more I hope I'm wrong about Hell....

Pray for violence is a good band name

ITT: people discovering why there are so many branches of Christianity

Ah yes, the racist warrior Jesus killer of innocents cult.

I hope he takes his lethality and shoves it so far up his ass he tickles his tonsils.

"My god is the god of love and compassion, and if you don't believe in him, fuck you, I hope he kills you before I do."

[–] WoodScientist@lemmy.world 1 points 2 hours ago

I always loved getting Buddhism as a religion in Civilization. Then spreading it everywhere at the point of the sword.

YOU WILL ACCEPT PEACEFUL ENLIGHTENMENT, OR YOU WILL DIE!

[–] tgcoldrockn@lemmy.world 17 points 9 hours ago* (last edited 9 hours ago) (1 children)

His words are antithetical to Jesus's teachings. Diametrically opposed even. Perhaps even a smidge Anti-Christ-ian to anyone with morals or brains or a shred of bravery to stand against this? Hmmm?

[–] zalgotext@sh.itjust.works 7 points 6 hours ago

It irks me when people try and counter this kind of stuff by arguing that Jesus was all about love and peace and kum-bah-yah blah blah blah. Because

  1. Trying to mount arguments based on logic with these people is an exercise in futility
  2. If you've read the book, he kinda really wasn't
  3. His "teachings" are either the fanciful musings of some illiterate shepherds, or state-sanctioned propaganda, and either way, are kind of worthless from a philosophical or moral standpoint
  4. Most importantly, religion has absolutely no place in government, and that's what we should be saying every time something like "the monthly Pentagon Christian religious service, headed by one of the highest officials in the federal government" crops up in the news, instead of this pedantic attempt to paint Jesus as some peaceful figure

Pete Hegseth is a weak dork.

[–] Sam_Bass@lemmy.world 8 points 8 hours ago (1 children)

He and his entire administration cohort deserve no mercy

[–] ripcord@lemmy.world 2 points 7 hours ago (1 children)

When did "cohort" start being used this way outside maybe academic/scientific settings?

I started hearing it a couple of years ago. For 40 years ago it was only ever "you and your cohorts", more like "gang".

[–] Sam_Bass@lemmy.world 2 points 5 hours ago

Cohort has been a military term since at least roman times.

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, hosting his first monthly Christian worship service at the Pentagon since the Iran war began, prayed Wednesday to have “every round find its mark.”

[–] billwashere@lemmy.world 56 points 15 hours ago (2 children)

Not sure that’s how Christianity is supposed to work…

[–] halloween_spookster@lemmy.world 38 points 15 hours ago (2 children)

glances at the history of Christianity

[–] TranscendentalEmpire@lemmy.today 21 points 14 hours ago (1 children)

The saddest thing about the history of Christianity is just how juxtaposed it is to the actual theology contained in the new testament. Anytime in history a movement actually starts to apply the actual lessons of Christianity they seem to get hunted down by their fellow Christians.

My dad's side of the family got kicked out of Europe towards the end of the bohemian reformation, and then got kicked out of colonial georgia for accepting slaves and native Americans into the church.

[–] WhiskyTangoFoxtrot@lemmy.world 5 points 9 hours ago (2 children)

Jesus is a marketing mascot. Expecting the Christian religion to behave according to the teachings of Jesus is like expecting the Nestle corporation to behave according to the teachings of the Quik Bunny.

[–] wabasso@lemmy.ca 1 points 4 hours ago

This is unexpectedly poignant.

[–] innermachine@lemmy.world 9 points 13 hours ago (4 children)

There isn't a religion on the planet that hasn't been manipulated and misconstrued to encourage violence against others.

[–] billwashere@lemmy.world 5 points 10 hours ago

It almost seems like that’s the whole point…

Maybe not how it's supposed to work, but it is how it's always worked.

[–] AlexLost@lemmy.world 19 points 13 hours ago

Such a wonderful Christian soul.

[–] Wataba@sh.itjust.works 39 points 15 hours ago (1 children)

Don't cry when violence comes to your doorstep then, Petey.

[–] samus12345@sh.itjust.works 15 points 14 hours ago

When you encourage violence against others, you invite it on yourself. It would normally destroy me if I caused grievous harm to another, but Nazis? I could off them and sleep with a clear conscience.

[–] Valthorn@feddit.nu 151 points 19 hours ago (22 children)

I thought the point of Christianity was that everyone deserves mercy?

[–] leadore@lemmy.world 1 points 4 hours ago

I thought the point of Christianity was that everyone deserves mercy?

There are many sects of "Christianity". A flavor for every world view. These are Christian Nationalists. Their version of it has little to do with such woke things as "mercy". It's mostly an authoritarian view with a strict hierarchy.

[–] Perky@fedia.io 91 points 18 hours ago (3 children)

Theologically speaking, it's the opposite: nobody deserves mercy, but God gives it to them anyways. But you'd have to open a Bible to know that, which none of these ghouls have.

The point of Christianity is that if you can convince people that they shouldn't expect any rewards until they die, you get a really compliant set of workers and soldiers who will let you impoverish and mistreat them because "the meek will inherit the earth." You know, after your value has been fully extracted by the owners.

Christianity went from a cult to a state religion REALLY fast because of this concept.

[–] shawn1122@sh.itjust.works 2 points 2 hours ago

More broadly that's the utility of all monotheism. It is extremely effective at uniting people but also teaches them to abide by an authoritarian hierarchical framework.

Why the fuck is the Pentagon hosting a Christian service anyway?

As an aside, with as evil as they are, we should be calling them The Pentagram.

He's praying for violence against the United States?

[–] Tarkcanis@lemmy.world 25 points 17 hours ago (1 children)

I mean... he has crusade tattoos on his chest. Tf did Americans expect?

[–] 0_o7@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 4 hours ago

They didn't expect it was going to affect them personally.

Like everything they were fine with killings and wars abroad on their name, but the rise in gas prices, that's just unacceptable.
