That cat face is exactly how my brain looks trying to process this scenario 😭

[–] MithranArkanere@lemmy.world 2 points 56 minutes ago

They'll just add another one that clarifies it can only happen if the terms were not consecutive, of it your surname is Trump.

[–] Sam_Bass@lemmy.world 3 points 1 hour ago

I would liken it to a vampire getting a glimpse of the morning sunlight

[–] Jaybird@lemmy.world 20 points 20 hours ago

He has never won from a man. Only against two women.

Now, I would not interpret that as a "thing" or a "dig" at myself... But I know the orange tangerine definitely would not like to be reminded.

Let's remind him. Constantly.

[–] criss_cross@lemmy.world 36 points 1 day ago

That’s why they’re floating the “no CONSECUTIVE 2 terms” is the actual interpretation.

It’s like the “no Homers club” letting you have exactly one Homer.

[–] mech@feddit.org 57 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Appealing or circumventing the 22nd is a bridge too far, and they know it.
That's why the slogan is "Trump 2028", not "Donald Trump". They'll run one of his sons instead.
Because of course, that's what they'd do.

Like when they announced a press conference at the 4 Seasons before booking it, got denied, and held it in front of 4 Seasons Total Landscaping instead.
All that matters is being "technically correct" so they can claim that's what they promised in the first place.

[–] Shayeta@feddit.org 2 points 1 hour ago

Appealing or circumventing the 22nd is a bridge too far, and they know it.

Every bridge that has been crossed has been a "bridge too far" right until they were on the other side.

And it is kind of hard to blame them when it seems to be such an effective strategy. Intelligence is truly on a bell curve.

[–] Diplomjodler3@lemmy.world 112 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Obama should announce that'll he'll run, if Trump does. That alone would probably end the whole idea.

[–] Rothe@piefed.social 107 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (2 children)

I don't think so. That would only make his wish to run and win against Obama even stronger. I am perfectly sure he thinks he could win in such a contest. He is after all a completely delusional pathological narcissist.

[–] neukenindekeuken@sh.itjust.works 16 points 1 day ago (6 children)

And don't forget, he has control of the whole federal government at the moment. He's attacking his political enemies and attacking voting rights. It would be entirely within his current M.O. to either politically jail Obama, or change the voting laws to favor himself over Obama by restricting access to PoC being allowed to vote, sending ICE to deport anyone who tries to vote without bringing their social security card and birth certificate, etc.

The SCOTUS is also on his side if there ever ends up being a debate about the results, so super fucked.

[–] teslekova@sh.itjust.works 7 points 1 day ago

Obama would still win.

Maybe so. But his backers won't. And without those, he's toast.

[–] bokherif@lemmy.world 22 points 1 day ago (1 children)

When the constitution becomes a problem, you already are in a dictatorship.

[–] orioler25@lemmy.world 3 points 23 hours ago

I mean, that same constitution has protected slavery for the past 150 years. That's a problem; has been for a lil while. Why is it a dictatorship at this point and not like, the Patriot Act?

[–] Serinus@lemmy.world 22 points 1 day ago (2 children)

They already have a solution for that. They want to change it to say "no more than two consecutive terms.

[–] FrostyTheDoo@lemmy.world 16 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Won't that still allow Obama to run? A 2028 term wouldn't be consecutive with his first two terms

[–] ohulancutash@feddit.uk 7 points 1 day ago (1 children)

But he’s already had two consecutive terms.

[–] snooggums@piefed.world 16 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (7 children)

Right, and he wouldn't have a third consecutive term because of the gap so everything is peachy.

[–] sukhmel@programming.dev 7 points 1 day ago

I guess, bullshit problems need bullshit solutions

Yeah... that's their "solution," Aaron Sorkin... Definitely not anything else more stupidly nakedly sinister and illegal.

I mean... clearly, as we have seen now since the 1980s, the elephants definitely care about rules and need to carefully figure out a way around them so the people whose opinions they deeply care about don't see them as hypocrites.

I mean, it's not like even if everything showed they lost they would like... illegally try to perform a coup and storm the US Capitol building to try to violently overturn the results regardless of the outcome's legality or validity if it didn't suit their narrative.

-_-

Can we bet on polymarket whether or not Trump will be dead in 2029?

[–] mysticalone@lemmy.world 18 points 1 day ago

Yeah but win or lose, no one will be paid

[–] Blue_Morpho@lemmy.world 24 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Trump then issues an executive order that only Trump brand voting machines will be allowed.

Supreme Court response: "I'll allow it."

[–] CIA_chatbot@lemmy.world 17 points 1 day ago

They already did that, Giant Trump supporter bought out one of the largest voting machine companies

[–] FinjaminPoach@lemmy.world 26 points 1 day ago (1 children)

And I think he would literally win

[–] FatVegan@leminal.space 23 points 1 day ago (2 children)

No more fascist bombs on brown people. Only woke bombs on brown people

They'll be so woke!

Jokes aside, Obama was still the better man, even if he was an asshole next to being a Democrat. Trump is an asshole and nothing else.

They were playing with ideas to prevent this. I.e. the limit only applies to consecutive terms. Obama had two consecutive terms, Trump didnt

[–] Matriks404@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago (2 children)

If he will be still alive. He will be in his 80's lol.

[–] NOPper@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 points 1 day ago

But he's so fit and healthy

[–] alsimoneau@lemmy.ca 1 points 22 hours ago

Still 15 years younger than trump.

[–] core@leminal.space 7 points 1 day ago (2 children)

No thanks, I don't want to go back to the politicians that helped get us Trump

[–] Skullgrid@lemmy.world 20 points 1 day ago (2 children)

How obama helped make trump happen :

  • Be Black
  • Have a conspiracy against him
[–] JDPoZ@lemmy.world 13 points 1 day ago

Obama didn't help make Trump happen because of his skin color or any conspiracy.

Obama helped by promising desperately needed "hope and change" and then dissolving his more deeply left grass roots organizations who helped get him elected.

Obama helped Biden coalesce the neoliberal wagons around his campaign to win at a critical moment during the 2020 presidential primary.

Obama was more concerned with appearing noble in his politics than using power to fully address peoples' material needs and thereby more effectively inoculating said desperate people from demagoguery offering scapegoats to blame at those needs being unmet.

[–] Jakeroxs@sh.itjust.works 13 points 1 day ago (1 children)

No its because he didn't follow through on any of his promises and caused many to lose faith in politics even more.

[–] snooggums@piefed.world 8 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

That is blaming Obama for Republican's loudly announced policy of obstructing literally everything Obama tried to do including voting against their own Republican bills if Obama agreed.

[–] Jakeroxs@sh.itjust.works 4 points 1 day ago

Yes, it's always the obstructions of the Republicans that stopped prior Democratic presidents, always powerless and always someone else to blame for their failings.

Meanwhile Trump does whatever the fuck he wants

[–] 4am@lemmy.zip 7 points 1 day ago (1 children)

To me, this just reads as “we can’t let the chuds get mad we elected a black president again”

…but maybe you mean neolibs. Its Lemmy, you mean neolibs…right?

[–] HerbalGamer@sh.itjust.works 5 points 1 day ago

More like "just because he's black doesn't mean he's good"

[–] mycodesucks@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago

There are already thousands of people rubbing their hands together figuring out how to sabotage him, because "better than Trump" is unacceptable. "Either completely unblemished perfection (with moving goalposts) or we're not only not helping, we're actively sabotaging!"
