World News
A community for discussing events around the World
Rules:
-
Rule 1: posts have the following requirements:
- Post news articles only
- Video links are NOT articles and will be removed.
- Title must match the article headline
- Not United States Internal News
- Recent (Past 30 Days)
- Screenshots/links to other social media sites (Twitter/X/Facebook/Youtube/reddit, etc.) are explicitly forbidden, as are link shorteners.
-
Rule 2: Do not copy the entire article into your post. The key points in 1-2 paragraphs is allowed (even encouraged!), but large segments of articles posted in the body will result in the post being removed. If you have to stop and think "Is this fair use?", it probably isn't. Archive links, especially the ones created on link submission, are absolutely allowed but those that avoid paywalls are not.
-
Rule 3: Opinions articles, or Articles based on misinformation/propaganda may be removed.
-
Rule 4: Posts or comments that are homophobic, transphobic, racist, sexist, anti-religious, or ableist will be removed. “Ironic” prejudice is just prejudiced.
-
Posts and comments must abide by the lemmy.world terms of service UPDATED AS OF OCTOBER 19 2025
-
Rule 5: Keep it civil. It's OK to say the subject of an article is behaving like a (pejorative, pejorative). It's NOT OK to say another USER is (pejorative). Strong language is fine, just not directed at other members. Engage in good-faith and with respect! This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban.
Similarly, if you see posts along these lines, do not engage. Report them, block them, and live a happier life than they do. We see too many slapfights that boil down to "Mom! He's bugging me!" and "I'm not touching you!" Going forward, slapfights will result in removed comments and temp bans to cool off.
-
Rule 6: Memes, spam, other low effort posting, reposts, misinformation, advocating violence, off-topic, trolling, offensive, regarding the moderators or meta in content may be removed at any time.
-
Rule 7: We didn't USED to need a rule about how many posts one could make in a day, then someone posted NINETEEN articles in a single day. Not comments, FULL ARTICLES. If you're posting more than say, 10 or so, consider going outside and touching grass. We reserve the right to limit over-posting so a single user does not dominate the front page.
We ask that the users report any comment or post that violate the rules, to use critical thinking when reading, posting or commenting. Users that post off-topic spam, advocate violence, have multiple comments or posts removed, weaponize reports or violate the code of conduct will be banned.
All posts and comments will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. This means that some content that violates the rules may be allowed, while other content that does not violate the rules may be removed. The moderators retain the right to remove any content and ban users.

Fuck, build them out of tampons for all anyone cares. If they work, they work.
This guy can go drown in a river of shit.
he's pissed that a 200euro drone can destroy his millions euros tank (I have no idea how much cost a tank actually, neither the drone, actually I just have no idea of what I'm talking about, who am I again?)
I have no idea how much cost a tank actually, neither the drone
Tank can cost about 20 mil minimum, drone price is about correct.
actually I just have no idea of what I’m talking about, who am I again?
a contender for CEO of Rheinmetall?
I just have no idea of what I'm talking about
Only quality you need to be a CEO ... or politician, I say go for it, you have what it takes :)
We sent them a bunch of single-use drones made from Cardboard.
Shaheds have a painted cloth skin.
Someone apparently downed a Russian transport plane a few days ago with an FPV drone, and the same happened earlier with a helicopter.
Those housewives make some pretty deadly stuff, and far better value than what Rheinmetall makes.
and far better value than what Rheinmetall makes
Which is precisely why the Rheinmetall CEO made this statement. Nobody would buy their 70000€ drones if you can get the same job done for 1000€.
Is Rheinmetall having a sale on its drones?
We don't know what downed that transport plane, the fpv thing was a meme someone made (you can check the source yourself and see the gemini logo in the corner)
edit: the helicopter part is real though, same unit that downed one mi-8 i believe last year, insane return on investment there
If every Ukrainian housewife can really produce drones, then every Ukrainian housewife could also be the CEO of Rheinmetall
Good comeback. 🤣
If it can carry a payload to a lucky Russian, who cares what it's made of or what it looks like.
Slava Ukraini!
If it can carry a payload to a lucky Russian, who cares what it's made of or what it looks like.
This is how you can tell apart someone who's been involved in a war or not recently. They have clearly not.
Wait an out of touch ceo saying something to offend others?
Where can I get these Lego sets?
Has he not been paying attention?
He has. Hence the insults instead of solutions.
I think it's just typical stock manipulation bs, he's interested in his business being picked over so called housewives'
You can’t make a Lego drone. It’s not rigid enough.
Any 5”+ drone can take out a helicopter if it hits the right place. They can match altitude easily. Could technically take out a plane too if it hits the right place. That’s why it’s illegal to fly them higher than a specific altitude without a license and clearance.
EDIT: you can make a Lego drone but it’d be a waste of time, especially if you’re trying to make an FPV drone.
Hey, the Iranians recently used a (~$2500?) Shahed to take out a $700.000.000 AWACS. Rheinmetall will not earn any money with homemade drones and CEOs do what CEOs do: fart out an opinion and expect the mainstream media to publish it without criticism.
I believe Shaheds cost around 50.000, but still
You can’t make a Lego drone. It’s not rigid enough.
You actually can make one mostly out of lego. Obviously not a really good one, but it can be done.
I’d like to see what an FPV cam on that would look like. The oscillations would be crazy.
Yeah the problem isn't the drone, you have to detect and track the helo and have pilots ready to launch in the very limited time that helo is close enough to them. It doesn't happen very often, they fly close to the ground and rarely come closer than 6-8km to the frontline, plus you gotta account for the time it takes to get an FPV itself there, plus have enough skill to hit it.
That new airbus thingamajig with longer range missiles would be pretty sweet for this job though
Yeah would have to get really lucky or know where to be cuz the flight times on the drones are only a few minutes, especially if you’re going full throttle at high altitudes.
Private Konscriptovich: "Lego is terrifying..."
Surely air dispersing a 5000 brick box counts as a war crime?
Chides and jibes
At least it wasn't slams and snubs
Germany does not want to win wars, build effective weapons, or create a credible deterrence, it wants to refocus its failing car industry to build and export expensive (and possibly obsolete) tanks. Then it will use its political power to coerce European border states to buy them (preferably with German loans).
