1. Follow the site-wide rules

2. Be civil
  • Understand the difference between a joke and an insult.
  • Do not harrass or attack users for any reason. This includes using blanket terms, like "every user of thing".
  • Don't get baited into back-and-forth insults. We are not animals.
  • Leave remarks of "peasantry" to the PCMR community. If you dislike an OS/service/application, attack the thing you dislike, not the individuals who use it. Some people may not have a choice.
  • Bigotry will not be tolerated.
  • 3. Post Linux-related content
  • Including Unix and BSD.
  • Non-Linux content is acceptable as long as it makes a reference to Linux. For example, the poorly made mockery of sudo in Windows.
  • No porn, no politics, no trolling or ragebaiting.
  • Don't come looking for advice, this is not the right community.
  • 4. No recent reposts
  • Everybody uses Arch btw, can't quit Vim, <loves/tolerates/hates> systemd, and wants to interject for a moment. You can stop now.

i'd rather be greeted by Anubis than be harassed by CloudFlare.

    [–] RickyRigatoni@piefed.zip 3 points 1 month ago

Anubis doesn't repeatedly fuck me in the ass for using a VPN and hardened firefox settings.

    [–] MousePotatoDoesStuff@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I'd rather be greeted by the Sphinx and asked to solve a riddle than another captcha.

What happens when we anser the riddle wrong?

    [–] laz@pawb.social 1 points 1 month ago (1 children)

That's the Canada maple leaf, not a 'nurse thing'

    [–] Scrollone@feddit.it 1 points 1 month ago

Also, drawing a red cross as a "nurse thing" would be a violation of the Geneva convention.

    [–] Alcyonaria@piefed.world 1 points 1 month ago

    Xenia save us, foxgirl xenia

    [–] Mwa@thelemmy.club 1 points 1 month ago

even TF2/Valve developer wiki makes you stare at catgirls.

    [–] DarrinBrunner@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago

    Something exists.

    People complain about it.

    [–] TimeSquirrel@kbin.melroy.org 1 points 1 month ago

The world is dominated by people like this Karen. Making society so fucking dry, boring, and lifeless. The same sort of people who invented corpospeak.

    [–] 13igTyme@piefed.social 1 points 1 month ago (1 children)

    He 100% watches "that stuff"

    [–] inkblade@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Probably just wanked off to a catgirl. His post was inspired by the post-nut clarity.

    [–] Don_alForno@feddit.org 1 points 1 month ago

And that's the reason he complains. The only association to anime in his mind is porn.

    [–] megopie@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

First of all, it’s a jackal girl.

Second, we wouldn’t need Anubis if it wasn’t for the hoard of scraping bots trying to copy every line of source code they can, to feed into LLM to be ground up and spat out as an attributionless mass of Frankenstein code.

Would they rather it be a soulless corporate logo? A flat two tone rounded corner letter on a square?

    [–] ShinkanTrain@lemmy.ml 1 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I think we collectively agreed FOSS mascots need to be full furry, preferably drawn by that one artist who did the KDE mascots

    Scriptjunkie

With that name, I guess he's a JS dev trying to rebrand as a kernel vibecoder.

    [–] RickyRigatoni@piefed.zip 1 points 1 month ago

    Not even a cat.

    [–] Tattorack@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago

Weebs and furries, man. Weebs and furries. They run the entire digital infrastructure.

    [–] iByteABit@lemmy.ml 1 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Oh look at the types that would call everyone snowflakes a few years ago get seriously offended by an image of a catgirl

    [–] StopTech@lemmy.today -1 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I have literally not seen anyone complain about it. As the tweet says "we just accept".

    [–] starman2112@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 month ago (1 children)

"We just accept [thing we just accept]" is a form of complaint

    [–] StopTech@lemmy.today -1 points 1 month ago

In this case yes, although it comes off as a very mild complaint

    [–] FauxLiving@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago

Wait until they find out about Programmer Socks.

    [–] Jaimesmith@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago

Peak internet: solving a captcha while being judged by a catgirl 😭

    [–] Limonene@lemmy.world 0 points 1 month ago (1 children)

It sucks that you can't browse anywhere without javascript anymore. It used to be that all the open source sites, most news sites, forums running phpbb, even YouTube aside from the actual element all worked without javascript, and as a bonus there would be no ads.

Now, you can't browse anywhere without these challenges. At least this one is noninvasive, but the Cloudflare one and the Google Recaptcha do a ton of fingerprinting to choose whether to let you in.

USPS has a home-rolled one that requires web assembly enabled, or it silently fails with a blank page. There's no non-malicious excuse for that.

If this is the future of web browsing, hopefully more sites use systems like Anubis. But I also hope at least static pages can be viewable as plain html.

Fuck I love how queer FOSS is. When big tech corporations switch there support of LGBT organizations dependent on which party is in power to make a profit, FOSS will maintain there position.

    [–] ZILtoid1991@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago

Well, a core of FOSS. Unfortunately, there are many jerkasses within the FOSS community, see the Xlibre developer.

    [–] Ooops@feddit.org 0 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (2 children)

Not cat but obviously a jackal... (seriously... was the name and the 'weighing the soul of your connection'-thing not enough?)

    Not anime...

Not a nurse... (that's a maple leaf on the cap and since when is a magnifying glass typical medical equipment?)

    Also and much more important:

Not the more annoying (and often failing) Cloudflare screen...

    Not another stupid CAPTCHA...

PS: Did version 1.23.1 really change the Canadian flag with a 'CA'... I have found screenshots of versions older than that that did display the flag as do newer ones. So I'm really asking myself if that was an intentional edit to get away with the "nurse" argument.

    [–] Skullgrid@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

PS: Did version 1.23.1 really change the Canadian flag with a β€˜CA’

it's probably an emoji loading failure, that's the "default" for flag when the correct image is not found (if it was a UK flag it would say GB)

Please click on 3000 images of motorcycles to continue.

3000 clicks later: please try again

    [–] starman2112@sh.itjust.works 0 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

I swear Google just doesn't want me using the internet. The other day I went through 20 sets of motorcycles and buses and bicycles and fire hydrants before giving up

    [–] kilgore_trout@feddit.it -1 points 1 month ago

I hope you'll rejoyce to know that I chuckled loudly at your comment.

    [–] HeroicBillyBishop@lemmy.ca 0 points 1 month ago (1 children)

why would anyone be offended by an adorable cartoon nurse girl w cat ears

    [–] rozodru@piefed.world 1 points 1 month ago

it's like a post I read on the unixporn subreddit about people complaining of all the "anime linux rices" like my guy, everyone on this subreddit uses hyprland with the same neon colours, who cares? Have you seen the github profile picture of vaxry? it's FOSS my dude, it's all made by weebs and furries get over it.

    [–] Successful_Try543@feddit.org 0 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

As the software is called Anubis, technically, ~~she's~~ they're a jackalgirl

    [–] WillStealYourUsername@piefed.blahaj.zone 1 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

    Non binary actually!

Edit: It looks like I'm wrong! See down below. The dev is enby while the mascot appears to be a girl

    [–] mycodesucks@lemmy.world 0 points 1 month ago (3 children)

Look, FOSS comes in two flavors.

Either all the contributor profile pics are flash lit smiling photos of middle aged bearded guys with glasses standing in an office, or they're anime girls.

    [–] Axolotl_cpp@feddit.it 1 points 1 month ago

Oh- well i guess i am not a developer anymore now XD

    [–] poolcritter@pawb.social 1 points 1 month ago

    or creatures :3

    [–] Bakkoda@lemmy.world 0 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I constantly get reminded that Gonzo, even in business attire, is not an acceptable professional avatar to upload to the companys Windows profile. I'm also a contractor so I dgaf.

    [–] saplyng@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago

I've gone for the corpo middle ground and my company picture is the Japanese business blahaj in a suit. I've been told, "I don't even look for your name I just look for the shark, it stands out more"

    [–] abbiistabbii@piefed.blahaj.zone 0 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Who the hell is this pissed off at a cat girl

    [–] Shea@lemmy.world 0 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

idk i think its pretty out of place and gets kind of obnoxious seeing specifically anime furry adjacent stuff all the time. If its your thing, its really your thing, if its not your thing its mildly annoying/occasionally weird. Theres some communities where if youre an outsider its better not to engage with the fandom but thats hard when its your job to interact with these people all day.

ok tangent: i used to think furries are mostly innocent nice nerds, but then i found out how the vast majority are into it as a kink or some kind of nasty besti*lity cartoon fetish nasty nasty. I get reallly uncomfy around those dudes that wear the mascot head to walmart or whatever bc i feel like hes gonna jerk off about being a dog later

edit: yeah that sums up my feelings, i feel gross like youre exposing me/involving me in your kink when i see that stuff. not in an extreme way or anything. but the nature of it being wantinf to fck dogs takes it up a notch

Don't care for it myself either tbh

    [–] Eric@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 1 month ago (1 children)

You have to pay to remove the catgirl. The free service features the catgirl.

    [–] Saapas@piefed.zip 1 points 1 month ago

    Lol that's funny

    [–] Sxan@piefed.zip -1 points 1 month ago

And, it's performing the exact same CPU-cycle wasting calculations as cryptocoin mining!

    [–] chunes@lemmy.world -1 points 1 month ago (1 children)

pointless software that I don't know why anyone uses.

a bot can waste cycles on nothing just as easily as I can

    [–] Don_alForno@feddit.org 1 points 1 month ago

pointless software that I don't know why anyone uses.

Because it evidently reduces AI scraper traffic.
