Israel is preparing legal action against The New York Times after the newspaper published an article describing the rapes of Palestinian prisoners in its custody.

The Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) announced its decision to sue on X on Thursday, after the paper doubled down in its defence of the report.

"Nicholas Kristof’s deeply reported piece of opinion journalism starts with a proposition to readers: ‘Whatever our views of the Middle East conflict, we should be able to unite in condemning rape,'" a spokesperson for The New York Times said.

Kristof's story contained harrowing testimonies of the rape of Palestinians by Israeli soldiers, which included accounts of prisoners being mounted by dogs, penetrated by carrots, and rectums torn by batons.

Remember they exonerated Israeli IDF rapists and then gave then Medals on live television and they are now celebrated figures in Israel.

The entire culture is sick to the fucking core.

[–] ptu@sopuli.xyz 1 points 2 days ago

They were also celebrating with nooses in the parliament when they passed the death penalty law

“We can rape anyone we want, and if you try to stop us we’ll destroy you.” -Israel

[–] tacoplease@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago (1 children)

"Stopping us from raping anyone is anti-Semitic! Remember the Holocaust!"

"It's not fair! We got genocided back then, so it's our turn now!"

[–] henfredemars@lemdro.id 3 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Maybe this will Streisand effect the reality of the Israeli rapes.

[–] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.cafe 1 points 2 days ago

WHAT? ISRAEL HAS BEEN RAPING PALESTINIAN PRISONERS?

[–] UltraMagnus0001@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

Hopefully the new York Times hs to present a lot of evidence and they don't settle to bury everything

[–] Hacksaw@lemmy.ca 2 points 2 days ago

Israel is trying to figure out what victims snitched so they can kill them and their families. They're not stupid enough to think they could win money, they just want discovery so they can teach those Palestinians a lesson for speaking to the media.

Israel to sue New York Times over article truthfully reporting its rape of Palestinians

[–] ButtermilkBiscuit@feddit.nl 2 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

I mean, there are literally videos of these Nazis raping a prisoner, they went to trial, the that genocidal state let them off without any punishment. After they returned home to parades and a heros welcome. There were actual terrorist raping a prisoner caught on video - then hailed as heros. Really disgusting scums I can't understand why they even sue. For what? Everyone knows your terrorist forces will rape people. You can go watch the video right now. Wild.

ISRAEL

GENOCIDE

Get fucked, Zionists.

[–] OhioComrade@lemmy.ml 1 points 2 days ago

Is it possible for nations to sue individuals of different nations? Like what court would this be filed under?

[–] njm1314@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago

Just really shows you how fucking delusional these God damn ghouls in Israel are. The New York Times just carries their water. As is their history they always go to bat for fascist regimes and they love to cover up genocides they've been doing it for a century. Certainly they've been doing it for Israel. Still though, not enough for those God damn demons in the state of Israel.

[–] neukenindekeuken@sh.itjust.works 1 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Sure. Let's go to court and have a mutual discovery session with a public trial.

[–] Footer1998@crazypeople.online 1 points 2 days ago (1 children)

The judiciary is, by and large, owned and controlled by the ruling class. Don't expect anything resembling justice to come from that system.

[–] Tja@programming.dev 0 points 2 days ago (1 children)

IANAL, but the discovery has nothing to do with the judiciary, it's before the judge makes a ruling and it's public.

[–] Siegfried@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago

Streisand effect, i trust you

[–] lmdnw@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago (2 children)

Performative. Israel will never allow for discovery or let any leadership take the stand. Everyday I hope for more dead IDF. Every time a Zionist or any religious fundamentalist dies, the world moves closer to reason.

[–] Krusty@quokk.au 0 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Religious or not, everyone has a system of beliefs.

[–] tacoplease@lemmy.world 0 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

If your belief system says it's okay to rape and murder others who don't share your belief system, then your belief system should die.

[–] NoneOfUrBusiness@fedia.io 0 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Atheist Zionists aren't any less insufferable, though.

[–] SparroHawc@piefed.world 1 points 2 days ago

'Zionist' is separate from 'any religious fundamentalist'. Creative interpretation supports your statement. :)

[–] corbindallas@fedinsfw.app 0 points 2 days ago (1 children)

The irony of suing a Jewish family. Sulzberger Family basically owns NYT

[–] explodicle@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 day ago

It's not like Israel cares about Jews who refuse to drink the kool-aid.

[–] ArbitraryValue@sh.itjust.works -3 points 2 days ago (1 children)

The claims about dogs seem quite implausible and call into questions the reliability of the rest of the the article, but I'm not sure how Israel actually plans to go from that to reaching the rather high threshold for providing libel in the USA.

[–] OwOarchist@pawb.social 1 points 2 days ago (1 children)

The claims about dogs seem quite implausible

How so?

[–] ArbitraryValue@sh.itjust.works -2 points 2 days ago (3 children)

I don't think it's something dogs are physiologically capable of doing, and even if it were, I think it's unlikely that dogs would be trained to do it on command.

[–] bold_atlas@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

Sorry to darken your world a little but rape and forced pregnancy are just things we do as a species. From pigs to horses, to enslaved people. We've been force breeding domesticated animals for longer than we've have had civilization. Yes we know how to make them hard and they and can be trained them to rape each other on command. That's how puppy mills work. All you have to do is force a human being to be in the place of a female animal being impregnated.

[–] theacharnian@lemmy.ca 1 points 2 days ago

Klaus Barbie did it to Jews during the Holocaust.

[–] MML@sh.itjust.works 1 points 2 days ago (2 children)

Well don't look up the toy box killer if you want to continue to believe that.

[–] The_Decryptor@aussie.zone 1 points 2 days ago

Another victim, Angelica Montano, came forward with a similar story to that of Vigil. She said she had been held captive by Ray after Hendy invited her to the house to pick up a cake mix.

... Montano convinced the pair to release her along the highway. She was picked up by an off-duty law enforcement officer and told him what happened, but he did not believe her and left her at a bus stop. She also later called the police about the incident, but there had been no follow-up.

Yep, sounds about right.

[–] Warl0k3@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

Probably best to give a content warning on that one, at least two of the investigators working on that case killed themselves over how fucked up it was. Really recommend giving it a miss.

[–] Hello_there@fedia.io 0 points 2 days ago (1 children)

What the fuck is their standing? Reputational damage of a country? Libel against a country? That isn't a thing.
Hope NYT can SLAPP their asses.

[–] MisterFrog@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago

That's what I was thinking. In what country can a foreign country sue you in your own country?
