How do you take your coffee?
β€œAl dente.”

[–] istdaslol@feddit.org 36 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Just freeze the pasta water, then you can reuse it for the next pasta and you don’t need new boiling water

[–] CameronDev@programming.dev 21 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Better yet, keep it boiling and save the heat as well.

Use the pasta steam to run a turbine to power the stove

[–] TwoBeeSan@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago

Like those ancient Chinese broths. My pasta water has boiled for ages

[–] Zwiebel@feddit.org 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I didnt, I was adding to it.

[–] chonglibloodsport@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Freezing and thawing the pasta water is a huge waste of energy. Might as well just get new water from the tap.

[–] Junkers_Klunker@feddit.dk 8 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Thanks. I thought it might be a joke but I really couldn’t tell. Some people really do think we should try to save water at all costs, not realizing that electricity is often more precious than clean water.

[–] athatet@lemmy.zip 2 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

No no. You freeze the boiling water then when you thaw it out it will be boiling again. Ezpz

The step before we missed.

Hey y'all made pasta from my toilet water. #noflush

This is the cup of coffee you replace your most hated coworker's with.

[–] CameronDev@programming.dev 13 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Hold up, pasta for breakfast, is that the real hack?

[–] ccunning@lemmy.world 19 points 1 day ago (2 children)

I mean carbonara is basically bacon, egg, and cheese pasta…

[–] Zwiebel@feddit.org 9 points 1 day ago (1 children)

ITS NOT BACON ITS GUANCALE REEEEEEEE

[–] Soggy@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

It was bacon first. Food purists are one step away from ethnic purists.

Never considered carbonara a breakfast, but I guess I'm gonna have to try it now.

[–] jaybone@lemmy.zip 1 points 1 day ago

I think this is Italy. Are they eating pasta every meal of the day?

I think a lot of people fail to understand the difference between "waste" (verb) and "use" (verb)

[–] miraclerandy@lemmy.world 11 points 1 day ago (1 children)

What’s more wasteful, throwing away used pasta water, or using one-use coffee filters?

[–] PugJesus@piefed.social 17 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Don't worry! The coffee filter will see many more uses too! 😊

[–] jaybone@lemmy.zip 9 points 1 day ago

Then eventually it will have enough starch to be used as pasta. You can make a stuffed pasta like a ravioli or tortellini. You could fill it with the coffee grounds, which you would also save.

[–] AbsolutelyNotAVelociraptor@piefed.social 5 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

Just keep using the same water to boil pasta instead of throwing it!

And ffs, use a moka to make the coffee.

[–] xylol@leminal.space 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Moka Coffee
Cafe in San Francisco

What's a mokka?

[–] AbsolutelyNotAVelociraptor@piefed.social 7 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Sorry, moka, a typo. It's this:

A traditional italian coffee machine. It's made in aluminium or steel, and the filter is also on the same material so you don't have to use one every time. They are extremely durable, with some passing from parents to children.

[–] 666dollarfootlong@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Is it easy to use? Won't it burn easily on the stove top?

[–] AbsolutelyNotAVelociraptor@piefed.social 3 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Just put the water in the lower part (fill it just below the safety valve), add ground coffee to the filter, close it and put it into the fire. When the coffee is starting to get ready, you'll hear the charasteristic "gargle" and when it's done, a "whistle".

It's pretty easy to prepare coffee on them and I'd argue they make the best coffee of all.

Here a pic of an open moka so you can see the filter and the rest of the parts of it. It's a different model but it only changes the form factor.

[–] Soggy@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

Nah they're like a better percolator, pretty easy to use.

[–] TomMasz@piefed.social 3 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Finally, an economical way to get more starch into coffee!

[–] Wizard_Pope@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago (4 children)

I mean is it really wastefull to throw away pasta water though?

[–] Swemg@lemmy.world 12 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Just put it in your plants

[–] JoMiran@lemmy.ml 10 points 1 day ago (1 children)

...at room temperature and assuming you did not salt or oil the water.

You use the starch to thicken sauces!

[–] Wizard_Pope@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Sure but what else? If I am not making sauces I will just throw it away.

[–] Know_not_Scotty_does@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago (2 children)

You should always be making sauce when you make pasta. Even if you are using jarred sauce, throw some of the (previously salted, you did remember to salt the pasta water before you cooked the pasta right?) pasta water in a saucepan and saute it then add the sauce and simmer. When it thickens up enough, add the pasta to the sauce and enjoy.

You can thicken soups too, anything you'd use flour to thicken.

It's about using something else's water for her coffee, so she doesn't use more water.

[–] red_tomato@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Just chug the pasta water. All of it!
