Women only trans inclusive This is an inclusive community for all things women. Whether you're here for make up tips, feminism or just friendly chit chat, we've got you covered.

Rules…

  1. Women only… trans women are women, and transphobic or gender critical talk isn’t allowed. Anyone under the trans umbrella (e.g. non-binary, bigender, agender) is free to decide whether a women's community is a good fit for them.
  2. Don’t be a dick. No personal attacks, no aggression, play nice.
  3. Don’t hate on groups, hatefilled talk about groups is not allowed. Ever.
  4. No governmental politics, so no talk of Trump actions etc. We recommend Feminism@beehaw.org for that, but here is an escape from it.
  5. New accounts or users with few comments may have their posts removed to prevent spam and bad-faith participation.

I thought she chaired Magic the Gathering at work. Either way, good for her!

Ahhh, I thought it was the abbreviation for some kind of special meeting

To Be fair, Comander does tend to lead to people talking over eachother.

They're actually playing with 5th edition rules.

I didn't do the fist thing. I rolled in one of those "next customer" counter things instead and every time I was interrupted hit a button. That was fun!

[–] hildegarde@lemmy.blahaj.zone 6 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Out of interest, what was the count at the end of the meeting?

[–] ZDL@lazysoci.al 19 points 1 month ago (1 children)

It wasn't a meeting. It was a presentation. I think it hit 26 before someone figured out what I was doing (I didn't tell them what I was doing) and they started listening instead of talking.

[–] SharkWeek@lemmy.blahaj.zone 6 points 1 month ago (1 children)

That is fantastic ... with time you could have a pavlovian response going and just use the "ding-dong" sound to get everyone to shut up :-)

[–] ZDL@lazysoci.al 6 points 1 month ago

I was asked very nicely by my boss not to do that again, though. 🤣

[–] Taleya@aussie.zone 23 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I just talk over the top of them. They get wonderfully pissed off when I do

[–] lemmy_get_my_coat@lemmy.world 4 points 1 month ago (1 children)

You're talking about the men, right?

[–] Taleya@aussie.zone 7 points 1 month ago

What an odd question to ask in context.

I just talked through them instead. "Did I stutter?"

[–] explodicle@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 month ago

Even that's no excuse

[–] Wren@lemmy.today 17 points 1 month ago

Yes. I did this at a less formal meeting, not with a fist but a middle finger. When I keep count it just gets depressing.

One time I was supposed to argue a position when the guy cut me off before I could get a single sentence in, multiple times, then asked why I hadn't prepared any statements.

[–] JennaR8r@lemmy.dbzer0.com 10 points 1 month ago (1 children)

After decades of being interrupted and talked over, it beat me down to the point I had to take it constructively & accept my role in conversations. Best to keep my mouth shut unless directly addressed. 🤷🏼‍♀️

[–] SharkWeek@lemmy.blahaj.zone 6 points 1 month ago

I gave up too, but found other ways around it ... mostly using email and talking with individuals involved after the meeting. Also, sneakily asking awkward questions to the worst offenders can help, and lastly getting male allies to nudge the conversation in the direction I want it as a last resort.

If someone doesn't read an email I come down on them like a ton of bricks.

Only speak one sentence at a time, and repeat the experiment.

[–] growsomethinggood@reddthat.com 31 points 1 month ago (2 children)

And we see no irony in going into a women-only community, making assumptions about how a woman speaks, and telling her to try talking less?

[–] JennaR8r@lemmy.dbzer0.com 8 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I confess I'm a woman who became interested in the community "Dull Men's Club" because sometimes people just wanna post mundane photos & talk about mundane things, but for some reason it's a "men's club" so I'd lurk without posting or commenting. Then a few weeks later I found the "Dullsters" community which is probably a better fit. 😄

[–] growsomethinggood@reddthat.com 5 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I think that's a reasonable approach! This community specifically asks men not to comment or post so it'd be great if they decided to listen like that instead!

It's unfortunate we only see the obnoxious dudes. I bet there are wonderful people listening on the sidelines, respecting our space.

[–] JennaR8r@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 1 month ago

Seems logical since only obnoxious people disregard rules in life. And unfortunate they're the ones we hear the most because they're the ones who make themselves heard.

What happens to men who post here has been well documented. There have been hundreds of good peer reviewed studies with large sample sizes that all show exactly what happens. This is not an area that needs further study.

[–] Wren@lemmy.today 22 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Oh hey, another dude barging into a women's space to tell us to shut up. Did you not like the picture because you're in it?

[–] Taleya@aussie.zone 7 points 1 month ago (1 children)

The upvotes we see on this shit show how many guys let us and our comm live rent free in their heads. Rather chivalrous in the current economic climate

[–] Wren@lemmy.today 6 points 1 month ago (1 children)

No kidding, probably the same ones who call us misandrist. I'm surprised to not see many downvotes on them.

[–] hildegarde@lemmy.blahaj.zone 4 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Blahaj blocks downvotes. Many of the regulars here cannot downvote, or see downvote counts. I don't think downvotes particularly meaningful here for that reason.

[–] Wren@lemmy.today 4 points 1 month ago

That's fair. My downvotes are rare and meaningful to me.

I think this would make a meeting very tedious.

[–] ValiantDust@feddit.org 7 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

Imagine someone explaining a complex topic in single sentences with pauses in between.

[–] ValiantDust@feddit.org 8 points 1 month ago

Is that what you meant?

[–] explodicle@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 month ago

It would be more revealing to repeat the experiment with an equally verbose man.
