It's giving me Jayne Mansfield–Sophia Loren vibes.

I can't tell if she's expressing contempt, jealousy, or desire.
All three, probably.

Sigourney Weaver has that effect on people. I knows because I’m people.
Person confirmed.
Somebody got snu-snu on the mind!
The mind is willing, but the flesh is weak
Sigourney emanating that "Remember, this bullshit pays the bills" glare.
Winona managed to catch on soon enough.
Bullshit like the objectification inherent in being an actress? (Serious question)
And not only in a paying the bills sort of way. An actor that was never in a bad movie isn't taking enough creative risks.
I was just wondering which specific bullshit they were talking about. The event, the profession, or any number of other things.
Where's the objectification? Is it in the room with us now?
Are you referring to what she's wearing? You do realize she chose to wear that, right? She's a grown up, the patriarchy doesn't choose her outfits for her.
Not referring to that. The industry does bad things to women. I figured that was common knowledge. Actresses are treated as objects by employers.
I just wasn't sure what the connection to this post was
Hollywood actresses, check
Revealing (for the time) outfit, check
Weinstein's influence in Hollywood during the time this image was taken, very high, check
I'd say it's not that much of a stretch, even if this film is highly appraised by critics/fans. The fame and fortune wasn't, and remains as, not a painless thing.
check out outfits from the 90's, this was daring, for a sci-fi action film star especially.
Was Weinstein involved in that film? I'll admit I don't know much about directors and films in general. If he was involved with the Alien franchise, then point taken.
But unless you're suggesting that she didn't choose her own outfit, I don't see how what she's wearing has anything to do with patriarchy. I thought women wearing revealing clothing was supposed to be a feminist statement?
I've seen stranger things
Proof that punctuation matters.
Capitalization, not punctuation, in this example
Thank you. I had no idea what op was talking about.
I've. Seen stranger things?
I've seen, stranger! Things!!!
I've seen stranger. Things.
God, that movie sucked. Love those two though.

I feel like I'm the only person who enjoyed the entire quadrilogy (4 films with different vibes, the only real shame being the CGI in 3) but simultaneously hates the recent one (Marvel-esque, contrived, stupid piece of shit)
Obvs though I'm ignoring those other 2 in between, we can all at least Dutch-Dillon handshake in our utter disdain for those terrible abominations on the universe
If you're talking about the alien in Alien^3 it's not GCI. It's a puppet filmed separately and composited in. It's a creative method, but the comp is done poorly.
TIL, thank you
You can see a similar problem with the Star Wars prequels. Most of those obviously CGI sets, like Kamino, are actually miniatures with dodgy compositing.
Lucas has always been a cinema tech pioneer, but the prequel era was not his best. He was surrounded by yes men and many of his bad choices were unchecked.
IIRC The Phantom Menace (and maybe the rest of the trilogy) was mastered in 1080, what people think of as TV resolution these days.
Alien 3 sucked even more.
Glad we can agree. I am a little bitter because Alien 3 is experiencing a resurgence in popularity it does not deserve.
I saw Resurrection with an open heart recently. It's actually pretty good though with a weird atmosphere. UNTIL after the diving scene. Then the plot, writing and cinematrography in large parts begin to fall apart. Though I will hold steadfast on the treatment of the queen and newborn being actually a clever direction.
I rewatched them all recently and man 3 was torture. it did have good parts like the company getting the picture and arriving sooner and of course the ending. Everything else was just ugh.
I tried watching the Director's Cut, or Extended Edition or whatever of Alien 3 a month or two ago and I didn't make it all the way through. It was brutal
It was a real slog. It's more painful than a typical bad movie, because you could see hints of how in another world, it could have been good.
LOL that's the version that everyone are shilling
Was she the Ghostbusters dog? (Dana / Zuul)?
Yep
