General Discussion for politics in the UK.
Please don't post to both !uk_politics@feddit.uk and !unitedkingdom@feddit.uk .
Pick the most appropriate, and put it there.

Posts should be related to UK-centric politics, and should be either a link to a reputable news source for news, or a text post on this community.

Opinion pieces are also allowed, provided they are not misleading/misrepresented/drivel, and have proper sources.

If you think "reputable news source" needs some definition, by all means start a meta thread. (These things should be publicly discussed)

Posts should be manually submitted, not by bot. Link titles should not be editorialised.

Disappointing comments will generally be left to fester in ratio, outright horrible comments will be removed.
Message the mods if you feel something really should be removed, or if a user seems to have a pattern of awful comments.

If we had functioning free, honest media, the chance of this would be slim

"All over the world, wherever there are capitalists, freedom of the press means freedom to buy up newspapers, to buy writers, to bribe, buy and fake “public opinion” for the benefit of the bourgeoisie."

-- Lenin, 1921 https://www.marxists.org/archive/lenin/works/1921/aug/05.htm

Still as true today as when he wrote it.

You mean the BBC is dishonest?

No way.

Crazy that the UK would indulge in white supremacy. Absolutely unheard of.

Wait but I thought white rage tipping a nation into overt fascism was a uniquely American problem because we're just so uniquely evil that American leftists should be left to burn in the hell our countrymen made without any sympathy or help, and not because this is a situation that arises from the inherent contradictions of capitalism and the long, long history of European colonialism and white supremacy that we share?

Well fucking well....

EDIT: sorry to intrude in your space but I'm so fucking tired of years of "you people deserve it, yes all of you."

Ignore people who talk like that, solidarity is the key to addressing these issues.

Yeah very interesting how Euros get real fucking pissed when I point out that the far right party is primed to win the next election over their useless neoliberal party that is currently running their country into the ground. It's happening in the UK, it is happening in France, it's happening in Germany, and it's already happened in Italy.

Almost like this is planned? That billionaires and oligarchs and neo-nazis around the world have been working together to advance this for several decades is just a crazy conspiracy, isn't it?

Is that a thing? I'm a Brit and we've been sliding towards the far right since the Johnson years. Seeing the US under Trump is just a glimpse at what we can look forward to if the media keep pushing pro maga uk propaganda, and it probably will. BBC is basically the PR department of Five Mil Farage.

Yes it is a thing. Most Europeans seem to be in complete denial about how problematic they are as a collective.

Don't worry, I hate our main parties too. I voted green.

Slim bit of good news is that the greens actually may win some small level of representation in our system, but I am not overly hopeful.

Euro-slander? Prepare for the downvotes.

They do not take criticism or non-halo'd observations at all well.
