Moderator Guidelines

  • Don’t be mean to users. Be gentle or neutral.
  • Most moderator actions which have a modlog message should include your username.
  • When in doubt about whether or not a user is problematic, send them a DM.
  • Don’t waste time debating/arguing with problematic users.
  • Assume the best, but don’t tolerate sealioning/just asking questions/concern trolling.
  • Ask another mod to take over cases you struggle with, if you get tired, or when things get personal.
  • Ask the other mods for advice when things get complicated.
  • Share everything you do in the mod matrix, both so several mods aren't unknowingly handling the same issues, but also so you can receive feedback on what you intend to do.
  • Don't rush mod actions. If a case doesn't need to be handled right away, consider taking a short break before getting to it. This is to say, cool down and make room for feedback.
  • Don’t perform too much moderation in the comments, except if you want a verdict to be public or to ask people to dial a convo down/stop. Single comment warnings are okay.
  • Send users concise DMs about verdicts about them, such as bans etc, except in cases where it is clear we don’t want them at all, such as obvious transphobes. No need to notify someone they haven’t been banned of course.
  • Explain to a user why their behavior is problematic and how it is distressing others rather than engage with whatever they are saying. Ask them to avoid this in the future and send them packing if they do not comply.
  • First warn users, then temp ban them, then finally perma ban them when they break the rules or act inappropriately. Skip steps if necessary.
  • Use neutral statements like “this statement can be considered transphobic” rather than “you are being transphobic”.
  • No large decisions or actions without community input (polls or meta posts f.ex.).
  • Large internal decisions (such as ousting a mod) might require a vote, needing more than 50% of the votes to pass. Also consider asking the community for feedback.
  • Remember you are a voluntary moderator. You don’t get paid. Take a break when you need one. Perhaps ask another moderator to step in if necessary.

Ulfric Stormcloak is literally Trump

Skyrim belongs to the Nords

Claims to be a strong warrior but is actually a coward

Stole the election

Secretly a Thalmor agent

Anyway the Stormcloaks are all racist trash. And the Empire kinda doesn't give a shit about Talos worship and is just playing along until they can out-breed the Dominion and win the next war. But the Stormcloaks brought Thalmor heat down on Skyrim and caused Heimskr to be jailed. They're so hyped up on righteous fury, they can't work together with the liberals to take down the fascists, and as a result it's just causing more harm to the persecuted.

...remind you of anyone on this website?

I hadn't heard the Thalmor agent thing... really?

He doesn't know he's a Thalmor agent, he was brainwashed with selective disinformation.

As long as the civil war proceeds in its current indecisive fashion, we should remain hands-off. The incident at Helgen is an example where an exception had to be made - obviously Ulfric's death would have dramatically increased the chance of an Imperial victory and thus harmed our overall position in Skyrim.

... A Stormcloak victory is also to be avoided, however, so even indirect aid to the Stormcloaks must be carefully managed.

Regardless of the chosen side, if the dragonborn completes the civil war questline, it's bad for the thalmor. The only losing move is not to play. Join the civil war! Nothing ever happens unless the protagonist is the one who does it. The only way the thalmor's stalemate can be maintained is if the dragonborn does NOT intervene.

Strengthens the Trump comparison, yes.

Reminds me of a satirical song in my country that goes "I like black women! I'm not racist!"

Doesn't the “Dragon-born” one implying DOMINION over all of the other races?

The former just implies homogeneity. Hard to be racists if you only ever meet one race. (have no knowledge of the first game)

Now, if we want to talk about truly racist gaming, look no further than Nintendo's Fascist simulator:
Animal crossing
2
3

Being exposed to only one race actually is a great way to create racism. Lack of exposure leads to a lack of understanding, and a lack of understanding often leads to fear.

I'd imagine wealth and class play a big part in it because of the ways wealth plays into education, cultural exposure, etc, and the ways wealth affects their relationship with such things. Like how wealthy people tend to travel more, and thus get exposed to different races and cultures which helps tolerance of such things, but their relationship with all of it is deeply consumerist. Its still racism, but in a more subtle way. Race and other cultures is a commodity to them, either for entertainment or social and cultural capital

[–] alapakala@quokk.au 1 points 1 hour ago* (last edited 1 hour ago)

Comrade, I am talking about the implications of a meme. Not social insulation. Racism persists because dominating others by race is convenient and profitable, otherwise the racist looks like a loon to the crowds. Race and cultures are commodities for the exploitation class.

Playing games to simulate commodifying races for amusement is what I am emphasizing. The former characters, as homogeneous, one cannot read or commodify their race for amusement, unlike the latter two which do.

[–] teslekova@sh.itjust.works 1 points 2 hours ago

Yep. Grew up white, surrounded by whites, and making all the same casual jokes about other races that we all only saw on TV. Nothing malicious, we weren't racist or nothing, they're all fine, they're just different.

It really stopped me interacting easily with a variety of people, until I stopped seeing them as stereotypes and just treated them like people. They're not different, except when they are. Just like white people.

Jeez, even now I know too few non-white people. Being way too interested in people's differences can be a problem.
