Wikipedia says that Charlie is a unisex name. I don't know about it, as English is not my first language; and I still prefer your variant, as Charlotte sounds way cooler π₯°
My niece is named Charlotte and they call her Charlee for short.

I've known trans people with unisex names who still changed their names because they associated their dead name with their past. I don't know how common that is, but I can understand wanting a fresh, new name to go along with one's fresh, new life.
