Where's the red circle when you need it?

"Yeah buddy, I dunno where to start. You're gonna need a new alternator, flush the carbies, and those tires? Phew I'm surprised you even rolled in on those things. Gonna be a week, week and a half at least. Probably run you upwards of 3 grand. Before tax."

And winter blinker fluid too

That seems like a long ways up to ride on a roller-coaster, but okay.

What's the really long spindly thing on top of the crew capsule for?

[–] setsneedtofeed@lemmy.world 11 points 14 hours ago (1 children)

That's the Launch Escape System (LES). It's a rocket motor that can activate to separate the crew capsule from the rest of the rocket in the event of a bad launch.

Ahh, gotcha. I assume it separates before the final stage booster ignites?

[–] setsneedtofeed@lemmy.world 5 points 13 hours ago

I believe (though I'm not an expert on the system) that it separates during the second stage when it's no longer needed.

[–] CommissarVulpin@lemmy.world 5 points 13 hours ago

Yes, it gets jettisoned after the separation of the first stage and ignition of the second stage.

Seems to be working near the rocket.
