AI is now used as a tool for tyranny and oppression, so people will definitely fight back

if you think this is soul-crushign wait til they finally lay people off once and for all once the bubble bursts.

These poor engineers:

All this bullshit just to entertain and host boomers, bots, scammers and AI shit posts masquerading as legitimate content.

Y'all deserve what you get.

the Applied AI team is led by Maher Saba, a 12-year veteran of Meta who was previously a vice president in its Reality Labs division, the division that burned through $83 billion on the metaverse before Meta moved on to AI. The new organization reports up to Meta CTO Andrew Bosworth.

Serial grifters.

too bad she cant burn through more money to put make meta poorer.

Ok, but nobody is forcing you to work there.

if you still choose to remain working at meta, you deserve everything that happens to you, imho

The real problem is that the rest of society doesn't deserve what's done there.

I'm torn on this one, because I think we are complicit for not doing the basics of deleting our accounts. We learned about how powerful boycotts are in school as teenagers.

I get that they buy up all the competition, but for most people these are luxuries rather than essentials.

Meta’s north star is to be the best place for the most talented people in the world to make an impact.

Not a positive impact, just an impact.

[–] echodot@feddit.uk 4 points 5 hours ago (1 children)

Given that track record with VR they don't even make an impact. The absolute best you can say for meta is that it's employees get paid a lot which of course is why it's still has employees.

If people want to make an impact they go work in a research lab not dick around with the latest flash in the pan nonsense tech.

Yeah, that's why I got caught up on that sentence in the first place, to be honest, because I also thought to myself "What impact does Meta even have?".

I guess, they do own some widely used messengers and social media platforms. But yeah, all the stuff Zuckerberg loves to talk about, is just hype bullshit, where they seem to have zero impact.

Until half the company gets fired.

“Move fast and break things”?

[–] JcbAzPx@lemmy.world 2 points 10 hours ago

Possibly physical if they don't put up some nets.

[–] jobbies@lemmy.zip 14 points 11 hours ago (1 children)

Its fun to think we could finally be seeing the end days of meta.

[–] FlexibleToast@lemmy.world 3 points 8 hours ago (1 children)

After burning all that money on VR now they're burning more on AI. It's wild to me that their glasses are successful. Of all companies to steam data to...

[–] jobbies@lemmy.zip 2 points 7 hours ago

Meh I dunno I'd like to see some real numbers on the glasses. Id be amazed if theyre not loss leaders.
