Stargate Worlds could have been awesome, but it was poorly funded and abandoned rather quickly which sucked (got super excited for it back in the day). But if Stargate ever becomes mainstream again I could see it working in a variety of genres.

Would love to play an X-COM style game themed around Stargate Command where you put together teams, build your base and gather new technologies (like time keepers... But you know actually good).

Or a co-op fps shooter like Vermintide or Left for Dead where you play as an SG team being sent offworld on missions and have a variety of classes/roles.

Could even see a 4x game like Stellaris working, but you pick a System Lord to play as and try to control/take over the galaxy.

Last idea was an exploration style game where you travel on the Destiny managing your crew and ship while trying to find a way home.

I do wonder if it could be made in an opensource manner, but probably there'd be a problem with IP.

I don't think so.

The closest model would be Star Trek, and that MMO still has different physical places to go to rather than constantly chilling out at SG command.

It could make a decent dungeon crawler with small team tactics and upgrades, but there really isn't anything that would benefit from being an MMO.

I mean that is like saying with star trek rather than constanly chilling out on the ship. The episodes and battlezones and tfos are all just particular episode stuff which stargate has loads of.

There was one being worked on in the late 2000s but the Zat would ruin any semblance of balance.

The Zat was extremely inconsistent in the show. Some people would get completely immobilized and knocked out when others would just flinch. Most commonly a single zat to a Jaffa would knock them out but often O'Neill would get up 5 seconds after a zat. It depends on the plot of the episode.

I just overlook it and enjoy the show.

In a game it would be good to make the zat have a fire delay and make a target inequip/drop weapon and freeze. Could even add a fire gap so its hard to use repeatitively.

Don't forget that shotguns are incredibly more lethal IRL but they nerf them in video games for balance.

Zats could be modified in the game to have a max amount of shots. Furthermore a cool-down could be introduced to prevent being zatted out of existence within milli-seconds: each successive shot needs 5+ seconds to take effect --> zatting multiple times under the cooldown has no additional effect.
