The US military has conducted strikes on Iranian targets after Donald Trump accused Iran of a "foolish violation" of its truce following an attack on a cargo ship in the Strait of Hormuz.

No casualties were reported when the ship was struck by a one-way attack drone on Thursday, an incident which prompted a planned evacuation of more than 11,000 sailors stuck in the region.

In response, US Central Command said on Friday it had struck missile and drone storage facilities and coastal radar positions. There has been no comment yet from Iran.

No mention of who owns the boat that got hit, whereabouts the drone came from. Apparently no casualties. I'd be surprised if Iran carried out an attack consisting of a single drone to the broadside of a transport ship. But I guess this means the ceasefire is totally cool to toss away now? Not saying any of this was on purpose but it's an easy excuse for trump to smash someone else's toys.

Could also have been a Russian false flag to keep crude prices from falling to low. Or Israel to continue to fuck around where they don't belong

[–] antonim@lemmy.world 5 points 7 hours ago

If so, i'd expect Iran to publicly distance itself from the attack. According to the article, they still haven't made any official statement. Does Russia have military presence in the region?

Most obvious explanation is the US trying to test iran's resolve to continue the blockade. A single drone makes sense if iran is just trying to show they still mean it.

Or the us regime is lying about what happened, or there's an explanation that is true but makes no sense because that's the world we live in.

The US is lying always with this admin since they see no advantage to ever telling the truth. It's a "prisoner's dilemma" type of deal with these people.

But I'm not saying false flag. It's likely to have been anyone's drone accidentally smacking a ship.

Tinfoil hat here: Israel, respectively BN, doesn't want this war to end.

Anything to keep from being figuratively and literally fucked in prison.

Israel's the one party that wasn't a variable on this. Iran decided to hit a cargo ship, and the US decided to hit Iran back.

Well...okay, maybe the cargo ship was Israeli, but I would assume not.

The US and Iran signed a peace treaty agreeing to end attacks, and to end attacks in Lebanon. Within a couple days Israel attacked Lebanon again. You say Israel wasn't a variable in this, but they're literally the only reason there isn't peace right now.

[–] Wildmimic@anarchist.nexus 9 points 7 hours ago

I don't think the drone had its passport with it, and Israel is for sure able to procure a Shahed.
