I was playing Star Fox last night and came to the conclusion this game is a 10/10 for me. I love Star Fox 64, and this is that plus incredible graphics, music and cool cut-scenes. I keep restarting the campaign, done some challenges and played a bit online. It's all super fun!

I really hope it does well and it kick-starts a saga on the Switch 2. They can take from all previous entries and build a cool new thing for the modern era.

"This is Miyamoto. We see no viable gimmick for the next Starfox title. Thus we have decided to place the Starfox IP back in the Nintendium vault until we develop a gimmick that I assume will be the next innovation for the Starfox series. This also applies to F-Zero and Waverace. Lol fuck you too."

"Anyway, here's another Mario Kart"

It's a fun game, but some of it is pretty difficult, at least in the "hard" path. I still haven't finished the game 😀 Time to play the easier route.

Also, I think Star Fox would make a good single player, third-person shooter. Nintendo doesn't really have anything in the genre, and I am not sure if it is their target audience, but this is the most obvious IP for it, if they ever plan one.

Star Fox Assault was pretty much that. Definitely something they should revisit (but hopefully not just as another remake).

Just watched the gameplay, this is exactly what I was thinking! Well, maybe less flying / driving (though not completely removed) and more on foot part. This also reminds me of Ratchet & Clank, I was thinking more gritty, but as long as gameplay is good it doesn't really matter.

Looked up other Star Fox games and there is also Star Fox Adventure, that also looks pretty interesting, though that gives more Zelda-ish vibes. I think I heard people here mention that before, hadn't looked up what it is though.

Star Fox Assault is really underrated. The third-person shooter parts weren't great control-wise at the time, I guess they were still figuring it out. But I'd love an updated take on that same format. You can get on/off the Arwing in stages, they expanded the story, it was an amazing game. Hopefully it'll be added to Nintendo Online soon so more people get to enjoy it. Star Fox Adventures is more of a Zelda-ish game, there's very little Arwing shooting. It was being developed by Rare as an adventure game for the Nintendo 64 called "Dinosaur Planet". It's pretty good too.

They did just have a Direct today for Splatoon Raiders, which is exactly that.

But I would also love to see more of a hybrid ground/vehicle format like Starfox Assault, only perfected a bit more. I think there's a lot of potential in that type of game, even though Assault had its share of flaws.

I've done three or four runs now, got the proper ending and now trying to get to all the planets. I'm only missing Titania. I've played Star Fox 64 so much, that I find it an ok difficulty in normal.

I am bad at shmups, my main issue is dodging when there are multiple things on the screen. Like the second path when going to Venom, have trouble with those missile thingies.

I'd love to see a Star Fox that's an open world space game (think Elite). Or something like Starlancer, except with Star Fox characters. But I'm a sucker for those kinds of games.

[–] slimerancher@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Looked up Starlancer, that could be fun!

Starlancer was great, but unfortunately it has aged badly and doesn't work well on modern systems.

I remember playing freelancer discovery around 2013, the homebrew community kept adding new systems ships and weapons.

No, Lylat Wars is the N64 game. StarFox is the remake.

[–] Ilandar@lemmy.today 4 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Yes, I was making a joke because this was the UK charts.

But the original was also Star Fox, just not in the PAL region.

All of the people who made videos about how they weren’t going to buy it ended up getting it huh.
