I'd be curious to know the breakdown of how much is actually satisfactory AI and how much is just giving up because all the search results are ass. 'Cause, at least for my sample size of 1, it's 100% the latter

r/dataisbeautiful thread

I wonder how Google is reckoning internally with their search engine AI responses eating into their Adsense business. If I can just google a question and am satisfied with the AI response, I don’t need to click onto another page and get blasted with a bunch of ads.

As soon as everyone's using the AI, they'll start feeding the ads into it.

We got approached by Google at work and this is already happening. You can turn it on in search campaigns in adwords

I wonder what % of people who still use Google are tech literate enough to switch to DDG or some other search engine once Google decides to fully start putting the ads inside the AI results.

It's a weird position for them to be in since I imagine that those who actually like the AI answers are probably just asking some AI chat box instead.

DDG is even worse. 90% of the time I use it I end up using the !bangs to switch to another search engine. Only thing it's okay for is looking for video game ROMs.

What's a good one to use now then? I have been on DDG just because I know it's better for privacy than Google and lets me mostly turn off the AI garbage.

I end up using Google and just rephrasing/formatting my posts 2-3 times to get what I need, usually.

They've announced the roadmap. Since they're replacing search with AI mode in the future, they're currently building out the capability for advertisers to bid on what the LLM response will contain in dynamic auctions. Advertisers can pay for prominence in the response as well as for how much of the response will be the embedded ad.

You will have to prompt ads out...

[–] fox@hexbear.net 4 points 2 days ago

Ads will be invisibly embedded in whatever the slop generator shits out. Wanna compare two models of car? Oceans will be boiled so whoever spent more on Google slop auctions gets to lie to you about mileage

That's representative of my searches on Google.

"Oh wait I'm on Google search? Let me switch to a different search engine."

the enshittification stage where the users and businesses get screwed together to feed the monopoly machine

The internet became hostile to its users due to ads. It would be cool if there was an isolated online space with its own search engine for websites that don’t use ads or use very limited ads

[–] haxboar@hexbear.net 9 points 2 days ago

I still don't understand why ads aren't treated as a malicious disease for websites. They seriously ruin everything they touch.

Loving SearXNG, self-hosted and I get to choose multiple search engines to use
