Finished my first run of Star Fox, thanks to the motivation from last week's thread. I don't think I'll be able to get all the medals, but I do plan to complete all the routes / levels. Hopefully it won't take too long.

Started, and finsihed, Voice of Cards: The Isle Dragon Roars. I have been itching for a proper JRPG, and while Monster Hunter Stories is good, it wasn't exactly scratching that itch. So, after looking around saw that Voice of Cards trilogy is on sale, so got that. I generally don't get much time to play during the week, but after starting it on Tuesday, played it daily until I finished it.

Voice of Cards has a table top game with cards aesthetics. Everything is a card, the map, the characters, the text, the equipment and so on. The story is interesting and it's all narrated. The OST are also pretty good, specially loved the music during the menu / new chapter.

Couple of issues I had with the game, since everything is a card, you move step by step on the main map, so it can take a while to explore everything. It also has random battles, and the animation to switch to combat area and start battling takes some time. It's not much, but it eventually adds up. Fortunately there's an option to speed it up in the game, only found it half way through the game. The map can also look a bit similar, all grass cards are the same, all mountains cards are the same etc. It wasn't much of a deal for me, but some people might not enjoy that.

It took me about 11 hours to finish the game, and while I while I tried to explore everything and talked to everyone, I did miss some side quests, so it can take you anywhere from 9-15 hours for a single run. And I think that's a perfect length for the game of this style. It wasn't too short but also not long enough to overstay it's welcome.

If you plan to play the game, I'll highly recommend trying the demo first. The save does not carry over, but the actual game starts where the demo ends, so you can think of demo as a small perquel. I'll recommend it to JRPG fans, but the game isn't for everyone, personally I would love more game in the series.

Finished It Takes Two. I am not sure if I mentioned this here or not, but I started this with my older one last year. Didn't play it for some months, but finally went back and finished the game.

We mainly got it for the co-op, and it was pretty fun. It was about a couple getting divorce, which didn't interest my kid at all, but he enjoyed the gameplay, and is looking forward to playing more such games. So we may get Split Faction and / or Orbitals. There are a few other co-op games like that too. I remember there was one where both protagonists were a car.

Spent most of last weekend playing Red Dead Redemption 2. I am just going from quest to quest, the narrative is good and while I do like the world in general too, I don't care about just exploring or hunting or living in the world as most people seem to enjoy in RDR2.

Maybe this is why I have so little money in the game, one of the mission had me ending up with huge bounty, $300, and I don't have enough to pay it and clear my name, so just waiting to see if it will go away eventually. The only next mission is in same area, so will have to go there, maybe doing that mission will reset it. Othewise I may have to start earning some money. I did have around $200 though, but I didn't had a need to buy anything by then, so I spent it all on clothing. I probably shouldn't have do that. :grinning:

Will probably focus on it this weekend too.

While most of the time last weekend was spent on RDR2, remaining time was spent on Earth Defense Force 5. I have reached around mission # 75, while total are usually somewhere around 100, give or take 5-10. This is my turn the brain off and kill the enemy game. When you don't want to think about story, or quests, and just want play something to relax.

With Splatoon Raiders releasing later this month, it might fill the same niche, so planning to finish this before that.

Didn't play much Monster Hunter Stories, but will probably get back to it during the week.

What about all of you? What have you been playing and/or plan to play?

I made a push to finish Yoshi's Never-Ending Story and I had no idea what would happen. The final level was very neat, the credits roll and the game casually expands its content by 66% for post-game. And there's room for more, so I'm not going to count my Yoshis before they hatch again! Well, I love the game, so I'm a hundred percent into having even more to do!

It's very strange that you also suddenly unlock optional HUD-elements. I've never seen anything like this before! I don't see myself ever using a gauge that shows how clean the water in a level is, but I admire the fact that they made all these gadgets at all.

In Visions of Mana I defeated the last Benevodon, so I assume I'm approaching the end soon. But first I'll pay a visit to all the ruins that have been taunting me with their high-level enemies all game long. If I ever run out of side quests to do, that is. I've complained before, but it just doesn't stop: This game has entirely too many side quests and they're not interesting enough to justify such quantity!

In Fallout 3, I'm being a complete tourist in the area around The Mall. Lincoln Memorial, the Capitol, the National Archives... I'll be hitting up Pennsylvania Avenue soon! I hit level 29 today, so I'm almost at the cap. I'm not sure what I'll do with myself when I'm out of growth...

Hehe, yeah. I think I mentioned that there is post game content, though maybe I didn't mention the complete the scope of it.

He optional HUD-elements are weird, I enabled most of them, but will probably disable them all again. And since I didn't have 100% flowers, I wasn't able to unlock all the HUD elements, for instance I don't have the one that tells you how clean the water is. Assuming there is really one for that and your weren't just making fun of these.

I am not into going for 100% for every game, but if there are quests, I feel really bad leaving them uncompleted.

For once, I am not joking. The one element I tried out was the health bar to see if you can die with it, but it's just a way to see how much damage enemies would do and how much something would heal you if the game had a health system. Very weird.

I played a few more runs of Star Fox looking to get more medals. The last one was a run on the hard path and got medals on every stage but Venom. I'll probably keep playing this on and off for some time. I'll also continue to play Denshattack! for reviewing.

Specifically today I played Tetris 99 enough to get the Star Fox theme 😬

Looking forward to your Denshattack! review!

I can recommend Split Fiction wholeheartedly. Played it through with my wife and once more with a friend. Very enjoyable and introduced some very interesting mechanics revolving around the split screen.
Currently playing Schrödinger's Cat Burglar, a light platform puzzler, with my wife.

Thanks for the recommendation. Schrödinger’s Cat Burglar also looks fun, and is rated pretty highly. Hope it comes to Switch / consoles.

Dragon Quest I HD2D Remake

Lovely art style, great music, straight forward and engaging gameplay.

But I am annoyed by the intermittent voice acting. It breaks immersion when the game randomly have some characters with voice acting, while some other characters are silent even though they’re in the same dialogue.

Japanese developers should consider reducing the amount of dialogue and have it fully voiced.

[–] slimerancher@lemmy.world 2 points 3 days ago

I don't care about fully voiced games, but if some are voiced and some aren't in same conversation, that can be annoying.

Busy days, only managed to play some hours of Ariana during last weekend.

Playing Ariana and the Elder Codex!

Went back and got 100% completion in the first three books (Wind, Earth, Water), though I still need to go back and see if I can get A Ranks in a few challenges for those nice stat boosts.

As for overall progress, I'm currently at the first checkpoint in the Fire book. With three more books to go (and possibly a final stage or two after) I imagine I'm around 40% of the game.

Should have more free time starting today, so hopefully I can move more quickly with this game as well as resume FSN.
