I though Americans didn't need us ?
Fuck The USA
Good fuck those napa snobs
I said it a while ago and I will say it again. This I'd a reverse Canada on Strike. On South Park they had an episode where Canada goes on strike on a world scale and somehow no one notices or cares.
In this case the US is the one doing it... And people aren't super crazy about it, either.
FAFO.
“Unfortunately, the restriction on American wine has had damaging consequences for regional consumers, businesses, and producers who have no influence over national policies.”
So... The boycott is working as intended tgen?
Is this what they call the free market? It's for everyone after all.
Canadian booze sellers thriving
lol, good job USA!
Americans oligarchs hate our Canadian mushroom growers and our wine growers.
Yes I believe that was the point.
Get rid of Trump & MAGA and we can Talk
Honestly? No thanks. Even when the pedo is done I'll stick to non-US products whenever possible.
And fix the systems so someone like Trump can't seize power again.
This was a California senator saying this.
Trump and his administration has been fucking with California non-stop.
We're talking withholding funds despite the fact we pay more to the federal government than any other state. We're talking opening dams and destroying water reserves. We're talking sending swarms of federal agents to abuse and maim protesters while rounding up "immigrants" in the streets.
Sorry your goods are more expensive. We do know what that's like here, because tarriffs costs are all passed on to us directly.
The west coast is the primary wine region in the us. Washington, Oregon, and California all voted against trump every time he was on the ballot. A boycott on wine does cause harm primarily to the states that were always against this, hence the senator's reaction.
There is a simple way to help the wine industry during this crisis, leave the US. Now's the time. Make it happen, senator.

Steal, aluminum, automotive and softwood lumber tariffs ‘causing devastating harm’
The headline that should have been.
I'm getting really tired of media outlets sucking up to Trump by glazing over how his shit policies are fucking everything up.

canada, an entire nation.. california, a mere state among many.. they each have about the same number of people. canada's population is spread out over a much, much larger area, but they're pretty close in 'size' nonetheless.
if a market that small makes-or-breaks your industry.. perhaps that industry has more pressing issues a little closer-to-home. it should be easy enough to make-up for the loss of canada by selling more domestically instead. there's 300 million other people in your own country you could be selling to. why aren't you mad at them for not buying more of your product?
no you see its not that they arent making enough money, its that the money theyre making isnt growing fast enough. dont you know not buying a thing is basically stealing money from these companies pockets? youre stealing the money they could have made. wont anyone think of the shareholders?
oh wait sorry thats the argument they use against piracy.
Good. Neoliberals like Gavin enabled the fascist tech bros so reap what you sow. Does he still have that podcast where he licks fascist nuts? Or is he just devoting all his time to blocking the one time five percent billionaire tax? California should enact the pre Reagan 70% billionaire tax every year
Good.
Yeah, and?
Noooooo Tr*mp's tariffs and illegal trade war are causing devastating harm to U.S wines.
I wonder what percentage of americans blame trump versus those that blame Canada. Maybe South Park was right?
We blame Trump.
That said, there are a lot of really asinine comments in this thread that seem to be viciously happy to see California face a hardship.
Every single one of these people is actually fully aligned with Trump's own hatred for us Californians. When you see every American as your enemy, you only help this monster and dismiss the very people Trump seeks to marginalize.
Your doing his bidding by lumping us all together.
No, Trump is.

They don't want to buy our poison juice!
Next up: boycotts against Hawaiian pineapples and Vermont maple syrup.
Anyone consuming Vermont maple syrup should lose their Canadian citizenship!
The Québec stuff is just better. And I live in the us in a high-producing state
Serious question for the Canadians: is British Columbia wine any good? Because that’s the province closest to the wine region in California. It’s far but it’s not that far. I do imagine it’s a bit colder in BC though.
BC produces excellent wines. The Okanagan Valley is a hidden gem in the world of wine and produces very diverse wines. Lots of smaller wineries and smaller vineyards, some big ones.
There's so much really good BC wine. Kelowna has a bit of a cooler climate compared to the southern parts and has some great whites. Lighter reds like Pinot Noir are great as you go south through Penticton, and Oliver, Osoyoos, and the Similkameen Valley have some fantastic full bodied reds. I really prefer Okanagan wine over most California wine.
Last week I went to taste wine in the Annapolis Valley in Nova Scotia and had some really good wine as well. No real full bodied reds, but some really nice whites - Dry Riesling and Pinot Gris being a few I brought home. Highly recommend checking it out, it's a bit of a hidden gem.
It's cooler in LA than it is in the wine region of BC this week.
The Okanagan contains Canada's only desert. It's hot and dry all summer.
I don't know the outputs amounts, but wine is also made in Ontario and on the east coast too. I'm not a wine drinker (or at least not enough to tell the difference between good and bad wine) but I've heard some of the wines coming out of Ontario are really good.
I found this map online which looks like it may give some more information: https://vineyards.com/wine-map/canada
Yeah, we pretty much exclusively drink local wines and beers now, from BC. No loss, really, except for this one peanut whisky (Skrewball) that we like. Haven't found a perfect replacement, but there's a BC spiced honey whisky (Krupnik) the fills the niche pretty well.
