I didn't think family matters would get a reboot

[–] the_xboxkiller@lemmy.zip 59 points 3 days ago

The acronym immediately made me think of this.

I’d still put my money on a battle bot any day of the week.

I love battle bots

[–] axx@slrpnk.net 21 points 2 days ago (1 children)

This looks sad. The obsession with humanoid robots is making less and less sense by the decade.

Support your local robot battle scene.

I can picture these wearing cop uniforms, running you down at night for jaywalking ,and believe it may be one of our possible futures.

I’m pretty sure the odds of this are 100%. Except it’ll be military bots… and they’ll be purging the poor and middle class, because once you have robots to do all the other stuff the next step is to reduce the population.

If you and your group control all the raw resources and manufacturing is fully automated, and you have robots smart enough to do all the manual tasks, you don’t need profit, you get to wipe out most of the population and create your paradise.

Not enough people realize we are morlocks, and the Billionaires think they are the Eloi

But how quickly will hackers be able to gain total control of them? Cops will probably have the administrator password as "password123" or some shit. Or maybe instead of engaging in combat directly, they'll just be running humanoid cameras, lunging after you no matter how quickly you run, or whatever fence you jump over. Long gone will be the days when you could simply outrun the overweight, poorly trained cops. Now these things will be just inches behind you, the whole way blaring sirens and recording your every move. 😐

The spinning jump kick of the law.

Stop right there! Or I won't be able to jump kick you!

Looks like the same when I let my kids play tekken the first time.

[–] thermal_shock@lemmy.world 10 points 2 days ago

Total dogshit game

[–] dave@feddit.uk 71 points 3 days ago (1 children)

They seem to do more damage to themselves when falling over than actually inflicting anything on their opponent…

[–] TheRealKuni@piefed.social 16 points 3 days ago (1 children)

That’s true of a few BattleBots contenders.

Who would watch robots fight like this. They can't even do anything. They have no idea how to fight whoever built them has no idea how yo fight. Its like watching blind people spam moves until something lands.

[–] eyekaytee@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

For most people seeing robots even move like this at all is considered crazy

Most people are also thinking if they have reached this point, where will they be at in 5 - 10 years

[–] Fizz@lemmy.nz 1 points 15 hours ago (1 children)

I would agree if the movement looked dynamic.

[–] eyekaytee@lemmy.world 1 points 8 hours ago (1 children)

you don't think a flying roundhouse kick to the head looks dynamic?

[–] Fizz@lemmy.nz 0 points 5 hours ago

No it doesnt. It looks like the same kick over and over. It fights like the guy who has trained 1 kick 10,000 times and has no sense of distance.

I dont think the robot can properly move or throw the same kick slightly different. It can just detected a target and fire off a generic kick. Mechanically its cool but we've plenty of examples of robots doing these acrobatics.

Idk maybe it would be better if it was actually trying to do real martial arts. If this thing dynamically circled and popped a well timed jab with some head movement I would be extremely impressed.

[–] Bytemeister@lemmy.world 10 points 2 days ago

Looks real the same way WWE looks real. I mean, you gotta love the skill/tech used to achieve these feats, but real robots fighting with no restraint wouldn't need to take a few seconds to dick around after every kick.

[–] QueenMidna@lemmy.ca 8 points 2 days ago (1 children)

It's very clear none of y'all remember the seminal film Real Steel

[–] QuandaleDingle@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I remember when it came out, but I only saw it last year! IT BLEW ME AWAY. I wasn't expecting a film of that quality!

[–] meekah@discuss.tchncs.de 2 points 22 hours ago (1 children)

I've seen it about a year or so after it came out. I remember it fondly, maybe I should rewatch it.

[–] QuandaleDingle@lemmy.world 2 points 20 hours ago

You should! :D

[–] snoons@lemmy.ca 44 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago) (1 children)

"What?! Your heads off!"

"Tis' but a flesh wound! HAVE AT YEE!"

*I love how one of the presenters is choke-laughing the whole time after it's head comes off

[–] Monument@piefed.world 8 points 3 days ago

I feel like that should be disqualifying. Or at least, the robots should be compelled to use the swinging head as a mace.

[–] kaklerbitmap@lemmy.world 7 points 2 days ago

Flashback to my first attempts at playing the original arcade Virtua Fighter

[–] Andonyx@lemmy.world 17 points 2 days ago

Pointless if their heads don't pop straight up and make a "ziiiiiiing" sound.

[–] Dookieman12@piefed.social 22 points 3 days ago

This show is obviously just to bait people into making better fighting robots for the military, free of charge.

[–] peteypete420@sh.itjust.works 10 points 2 days ago (1 children)

They way they get up is pretty cool, but they each have one jump kick attack and nothing else? Those deathbot matches from the early aughts are way cooler.

[–] BigPotato@lemmy.world 5 points 2 days ago

They learned from Mortal Combat to spam their best move.

Turns out it's a mirror battle.

[–] Mac@mander.xyz 10 points 2 days ago

They didn't even hit each other

[–] Professorozone@lemmy.world 5 points 2 days ago

When I was a kid we had a game called Rockem Sockem Robots (sp?) and knocking the head of was the definition of winning.

[–] Chaphasilor@lemmy.ml 15 points 3 days ago

So that's gonna be our future. Fighting robots that uncannily get back up with their head dangling on their back.

[–] bandanawearingbanana@lemmy.world 4 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Are they autonomous or do they have pilots? I feel like a human touch would make the fights a lot cooler. Like in that one Love, Death and Robots episode.

Looks like they got a ways to go yet

[–] ravenaspiring@sh.itjust.works 12 points 3 days ago (1 children)

I guess it is like watching toddlers walk, but why the random breakout into dance moves? Also how do they target? Seems like they just generally point at the other one.

[–] bjoern_tantau@swg-empire.de 39 points 3 days ago (1 children)

My guess is that they are remote controlled and the operators of the white robot saw that they were winning, so they hit the dance button in the hopes of scoring some points with the audience.

Instead of fighting each other they should do a laundry folding competition. That would be really impressive!

[–] ravenaspiring@sh.itjust.works 17 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Indeed, a fitted sheet competition!

Can we have Hugh Jackman pilot a robot?

This looks so fun haha

[–] Kolanaki@pawb.social 2 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

Seems like they are given pre-programmed moves queued up and not, like, using any sensors and logic to fight dynamically. I would have expected them to be more autonomous. Or the very least, human controlled so you can wire up two actual martial artists to make the bots fight harder than they would against each other because it's okay if you kick a robot's head off.
