Kimi K3, the new model released from a Chinese startup company is so good that it surpasses frontier US Ai models on several benchmarks.

It is nearly a Fable level Ai.

For context Fable was recently restricted by the Trump administration due to national security concerns, that's how good it is.

The best part is, the Kimi team is releasing the model to the public so that anyone can run it independently. This completely undermines the business model of Anthropic and Openai, and rocked the US stock market.

What a strange use of the word accelerationism...

if housing were treated as a public good and part of civic infrastructure, it would be a dystopian hellscape for all us housing speculators and landlords!

american capitalism has always been a huge bummer other than the defense industry, which is probably just cuz we throw more money at those problems than anyone else. the best electronics were always japanese; the best cars were always european or japanese. what would be different with AI?

if you take nation state horseshit out of the equation, the best outcome would be to share all these ideas and get as many eyes and minds on the problem as possible. for all you know, the person who creates the singularity is some dude from tanzania who's currently mining diamonds.

these doofs would be arguing about open sourcing the lightbulb or television and pearl-clutching about 'at what cost?'

hi, i'm an open weight models advocate!

i'm more concerned with all these nerds lurking about who say shit like that with a straight face. we used to shove these guys in lockers for a reason.

They should definitely be shoved in something barbara-pit

Interesting. All this talk about how AI will improve people's live and increase productivity from these bozos, yet as soon as China states that AI should be developed as a "public good" it becomes a dystopian hellscape. Almost as if the point of AI development in the US, and in the capitalist west as a whole, isn't to improve people's live, but rather to enrich the tech bros peddling their AI models.

This tech bro is really giving the game away. "Dystopian hellscape" i.e. my stock options are going to be worthless, even though I'm guaranteed to continue living the most comfortable life anyone has ever dreamed of

Allegedly someone who worked on Kimi is Che-posting over this model:

Anyone who thinks anything provided by the state as a public service is "dystopian" and especially if they think it rises to the level of "hellscape" needs to be shoved into an oubliette and drowned in piss and shit

[–] Awoo@hexbear.net 50 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Especially if what they're talking about is open source AI people can run on their own systems.

yeah like literally the only negative with that is the guy speaking can't make money off it

I think many of them just don't know what they're doing.

Uh, no, we've known all along where this is headed because we aren't fucking brain-dead. Did any of these morons ever read a book?

[–] BeanisBrain@hexbear.net 35 points 1 day ago

This future strikes me as a dystopian hellscape

[–] SirSmoothAES@lemmygrad.ml 54 points 2 days ago

Interesting how the hellscape these American companies are creating isn't considered a "dystopia" by them, but China releasing AI models to the public apparently is.

[–] miz@hexbear.net 33 points 1 day ago

a dystopian hellscape is when this person hasn't been flattened by a huge boulder

I need a source on that quote from the OpenAI exec. Its so fucking salty,.

[–] Kereru@hexbear.net 9 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Most of the techbros actually getting mad at point #5 because "muh free markets" lol https://x.com/deanwball/status/2078133895766114412

I am personally surprised the Chinese state continues to allow the open sourcing of models this good, given potential risks.

Open-weight models are inherently decelerationist

Still, in the end, open-weight models deter further AI capex [capital expenditure]

You just need to direct every agency to issue soft law that creates FUD.

Man you weren't kidding. Capitalist follows capitalist ideology to logical conclusion upsetting other capitalists.
