Person was smart, has job to erase web history in case of no landing confirmation

What I don't get with the LLMs is the peoples willingness to suddenly feeding it with their most intimate thoughts, that has now became a new fire-hose of data to exploit them.

It's like the google incognito meme but on steroids. You can now ask anything you ever wanted and not be immediately ridiculed. Except, this is not true or hold up in the long run.

spoilerThose that think I'm anti-AI. It's a tool. Use it wrong, and you break things. In this case a psyche.

Look, I have to say, I hate AI as much as the next guy, but as someone with ADHD, GPT was a godsend when I was traveling SE Asia. I used it as a talking companion to kind of get my bearings and have "someone" register where I was and what I was doing, so I could just quickly ask it, "hey, where the am I and what the hell am I doing" and get a prompt reply.

I am fully aware of the political and ecological consequences of employing this technology, and I believe that the whole issue is proper regulation, rather than the tech itself. AI is doing insane things in science, and it has clear and, quite frankly, profound uses for mankind. As always, the problem is who controls it, for what purposes, if it can be used as a weapon, and if so how we can go about making international laws about its use- like we did with nuclear weapons.

Nuclear physics have the capacity to end us all at a moments notice, and it also provides electricity for billions of homes. Like with any tech, it will never go away once the genie is out of the bottle, we just must strive to disempower those who seek to weaponize it for death or profit.

it's very important to update your AI context, so that the next time you crank the handle it can issue platitudes that resemble relief upon your safe trip.

It's funny how we are all so starved for recognition, understanding, and reassurance, that we are willing to take it wherever it comes from. Like dogs. We are like complex dogs.

Some are. Those of us who maintain our own cognitive skills will one day be forced to care for these lost deluded idiots.

One day?

Gestures broadly at society

[–] darthelmet@lemmy.world 17 points 1 day ago (11 children)

Sounds pretty cooked to me.

Why bother? The government knows you landed.

[–] phorq@lemmy.ml 2 points 1 day ago

I mean... I'm all for criticizing government surveillance, but flight records are public data so you're both right and should take it up a notch to say they already know what you ate on the plane to make your point..

It’s kind of sad. Person is very alone it seems

[–] gwulgg@lemmy.zip 26 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I don’t think it’s just this. These people aren’t all so lonely they turn to a chatbot for everything. Sure, some are. A fair portion of them though are just malignant narcissists who love the praise and fawning an AI will heap on them

I think that even if this particular instance may be real or not, is clearly that AI psychosis is way more prevalent than what people may think at first glance.

Me normally: "AI is here to stay, we just should make corporations to charge the true price for them!"

Me after reading about stuff like this: "We need a Butlerian Jihad, yesterday!"

[–] Zacryon@feddit.org 4 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

Maybe he got anxiety issues and talking to ChatGPT was helping?

Not saying that it's good. But given that there is a lack of sufficient alternatives, I wouldn't hold that against him.

[–] jj4211@lemmy.world 13 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I'm more worried about such a person than holding stuff against them.

Treating a chat bot like an acquaintance leads to some poor mental health outcomes.

[–] pelican476@discuss.online 4 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

We could all solve this problem by being less shitty and becoming easier to talk to. Who's gonna be first?

[–] jj4211@lemmy.world 3 points 20 hours ago (1 children)

Well I try to be easy to talk to, but I'm not going to be "What a clever idea" to everything brought up to me no matter what, so I won't be as "nice" as a GenAI chatbot ever.

[–] pelican476@discuss.online 1 points 16 hours ago

Yeah there has to be a balance between "what a clever idea!" and "lol that's dumb why are you talking to me"

[–] BallShapedMan@lemmy.world 173 points 2 days ago (33 children)

Somebody needs to hug that person. If they're going to a robot for comfort...

[–] I_Fart_Glitter@lemmy.world 127 points 2 days ago (1 children)

People are keyed up and do not have emotional regulation skills. This is a failure of society.

We make fun of them for their β€œfake” emotional support animals, their public panic attacks and for their attempts at discreet electronic emotional support. This is also a failure of society.

That guy trying to make it through his fight is not the reason the earth or humans are doomed.

Nobody said hes the reason. Hes a symptom

This is an amateur hour. If you want to get addicted, do it properly, with role playing models and character sheets, at least it's fun
