I mean its kinda superfluous considering the U.S. is basically in the process of dismantling itself.

That's just it... honestly, the likely best strategy at the moment, is to simply delay and stretch time until the November midterms in the USA.

IF those turn out to take the power out of the Republitards, Canada can negotiate with the Democrats which, as bad as they also are, at least don't have dementia embedded in their every move

At the end of the day though, Canada just needs to keep moving away from the USA as hard as possible since the USA is indeed circling the drain as it is

That's probably the reason Trump threatened Canada with new tariffs: he's getting nervous about the midterms and he wants a win, and the only way he knows to get a win is bullying. There he is: threatening again.

Carney will try to suck him dry in exchange of an appearance of victory. But we all know it will only last days, then Fox will air how terrible the new deal is and Trump will be back at it with threats and tantrums and "Canada bad".

The problem is, trump makes an order and departments snap to obey no matter if he is legally able to make the order or not. By the time congress/courts have their say the damage is done.

The only thing that could happen to stop the (immediate) shitshow is if dems win a supermajority in both house and senate and remove both trump and vance so that whoever the dems appoint as speaker then becomes president..... which has about a 0% chance of happening.

They would also have to impeach a couple supreme court judges. Secretary this and that.

They'd be busy busy busy. Nothing would get done

[–] anomnom@sh.itjust.works 2 points 11 hours ago

Nothing getting done will be a huge improvement.

Feel like the Canadians would be nicer about it.

[–] f1error@lemmy.world 7 points 15 hours ago

As a Minnesotan, please do. And do it quickly; I'm not sure I can last until the end of Kiddie Fuckers term.

[–] N0t_5ure@lemmy.world 23 points 20 hours ago

There is no point to making a deal with Trump because he doesn't honor his deals. In his first term he tossed out NAFTA and made a new deal. Then in his second term he tossed that out. In what world would anyone expect a deal with Trump to be honored? Sadly, Canada's best bet is to look elsewhere for trade.

Ford is a fucking idiot. About the only thing Ford can dismantle besides public healthcare, would be a buffet. Just another trump style populist turned sour against his old idol.

Too bad Dougie is preoccupied with dismantling Ontario and specifically Toronto.

Man I miss the days of his brother. he was at least funny in a "what's that fat ass saying now?" sort of way.

Someone has to get Doug hooked on coke. Maybe that could improve things.

[–] LibertyLizard@slrpnk.net 15 points 20 hours ago

lol ok Ford. I think the US will be slightly more difficult to dismantle than some bike lanes, which were already beyond your magnificent political powers.

[–] bloogoose@lemmy.zip 5 points 20 hours ago

I wish someone would do something.

"Watch out, USA: we could really stand up to you if we wanted to!"

It doesn't sound very powerful unless it's backed up with action, and I don't really trust either Doug Ford or Mark Carney to act as tough as they talk.

[–] tanisnikana@lemmy.world 3 points 20 hours ago (1 children)

Yeah, it’s like pulling pork.

[–] SatansMaggotyCumFart@piefed.world 1 points 20 hours ago (1 children)

It's fun and tastes great?

[–] tanisnikana@lemmy.world 2 points 19 hours ago (1 children)

Yup! Not that America tastes great, longpig is an acquired taste, but yeah.

[–] SatansMaggotyCumFart@piefed.world 2 points 19 hours ago (1 children)

We've got so many preservatives and so much fat, salt and sugar in us you'll never find anything tastier.

[–] tanisnikana@lemmy.world 3 points 19 hours ago

Don’t forget plastic!

The most world would be so much better if Ford was suddenly on a rocket on a solar trajectory.
