That's a good sign that they're going to sell enough product that it won't be a flop. I was pretty pessimistic on their chances of being able to introduce new hardware successfully during the RAM shortage, but perhaps I will be wrong!

Steam Machine reservation queue should be caught up by the end of 2026, Valve says

Yeah, guess I'm gonna build a PC before prices climb even more.
Worth noting this is the reservation queue, which is the folks who got randomly assigned a number on launch day. Everyone who got put on the wait-list on launch day, in addition to those who jumped on since, will be waiting until 2027 (based on this announcement). Some folks may get moved onto the reservation list of someone doesn't claim their reservation, and different regions fulfillment are moving at different speeds, but that's the gist of the announcement.
