So my cousin arrived in Sydney yesterday.

We've been chatting, he's pretty cool. Utterly enchanted by Australia.

What I didn't expect was to feel a weird kind of stability from having someone I'm related to in the same country.

It's been 25 years since I interacted with someone I'm related to.

It's kinda nice.

so many hugs

yes, it's not a nice feeling to be on your own in a country

but here's the thing, that one time I needed help I remembered I live in a society that is set up to help those who are alone and in need, and it was a great comfort

My induction hotplate that I do most of my cooking on is dying, so I've ordered a new one. I bought a bit more expensive model this time, hopefully it is worth the extra. It has a built in temperature probe, so you are supposed to be able to set it to cook to a specific temperature and can use it to sous vide if you want to. It also had real dials and buttons instead of touch screen, so I shouldn't have any further issues like accidental water drips changing the settings on me.

Drove to Gisborne today so I could hear GPS lady pronounce it as Jizz-born. That and the nice weather.

I have always been disappointed with the lack of voice options for GPS guidance.

That's not how she says it. ๐Ÿ˜‚

[โ€“] Seagoon_@aussie.zone 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

That's how the old timer locals like me say it.

the blow ins from the city call it Gisbourne and Rid ells Creek ๐Ÿ™„ ( it's Ri-dl.

Totally agree.

[โ€“] SpinMeAround@aussie.zone 7 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Feeling a little out of sorts. The sun is out and half of my brain says "go outside" and the other half is saying "absolutely fucking not."

[โ€“] Bottom_racer@aussie.zone 9 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

My day is better.

Pulled an all nighter after 7hrs of PT back from the beach then rave (rave was good, PT notsomuc).

Ol' boy dropped his computer in for repair.. GAVE THEM HIS PIN (edit should also point it was for the power socket, hardware not software). Has a whole lot of sensitive financial shit / passwords on there that isn't locked down. So I'm gonna have to change the big ones probably today.

Ol' girl doesn't seem to care about or understand the advice for upcoming colonscopy in a few days. Goes off at me for pointing out the advice. So next few days will be fights over what she can eat.

FUCK ME DEAD I WANT TO CRAWL IN A HOLE. Instead I'm about to go to the shop, get some corflakes which will be the highlight of today.

Deep breath.. where's the cask of wine.

[โ€“] SpinMeAround@aussie.zone 2 points 10 hours ago

Woof, that's a lot to deal with, let alone after an all nighter!! Glad you had a great time at the rave, hope the cornflakes and cask wine helped!

[โ€“] PeelerSheila@aussie.zone 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

The sun was lovely but the breeze was pretty fresh.

[โ€“] SpinMeAround@aussie.zone 1 points 10 hours ago

Yeah, I don't regret not going out... except now I see the weather for the rest of this week is balls. Wahh.

[โ€“] RustyRaven@aussie.zone 3 points 23 hours ago

Why is it that my plans for a 'couple of vegetables on the side' always turn into a massive serving that turns into the main part of the meal and make fitting everything onto the plate challenging?

[โ€“] RustyRaven@aussie.zone 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I followed up mowing the back yard with a pressure wash of the concrete paving areas. It looks so much better now - I knew there was a bit of algae starting to be a problem, but I hadn't realised how much ground in dirt there also was. I do like this cool but sunny weather for getting things done outside, it's really pleasant being able to work outside without overheating.

[โ€“] Seagoon_@aussie.zone 4 points 1 day ago

that sun down at the beach was warm and the cool wind refreshing ๐Ÿ˜Š

I was in huge trouble from the wrens, who chirped and wagged their tails at me very fiercely

[โ€“] RustyRaven@aussie.zone 5 points 1 day ago

Why do there have to be so many different sizes of battery? I have about 27 different types available, and of course the garage door remote needs one I don't have.

[โ€“] imoldgreeeg@aussie.zone 4 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Slow start, fridge cleaned out because a sneaky bit of led over tofu made it past my pre-holiday cleanout and was ICKY.

Now sun and walk and food for the week. I would like to get to Spiderman but I may just have to avoid spoilers until next weekend

[โ€“] RustyRaven@aussie.zone 3 points 1 day ago

You have inspired me, there are a few things I've been meaning to chuck out in the fridge and I've been putting it off for weeks now. I hope the compost bin likes pickles.

Maybe my super-mega-lucky numerology day yesterday only guaranteed a win in the lottery, but not how much... Division 6 for $9.10 ๐Ÿ˜Ž

Mr moneybags over here lol

[โ€“] Bottom_racer@aussie.zone 11 points 1 day ago

Rave was good.

Insane sound system. Could hear it from a km away.

They also had a giant inflatable spaceman which was a nice touch:

Spooky walk on the way home though. There's a very dark pedestrian bridge (baker street bridge) you had to cross over the merri. And at 3am going home, gave me the heebie-jeebies

Haven't walked around that part of Nth. Coburg before. Lots of really nice places that sort of reminded me of kew/hawthorn.

Bro. Dudes posing in the mirror at the gym is fucking hilarious.

Easy there champ. There's only so much cringe to go around and I need some for later.

Ayyyye. Thank you!

How can women resist the shorts and moustache?!?!

[โ€“] PeelerSheila@aussie.zone 4 points 1 day ago (2 children)

For me the ultimate shirts and moustache is as follows:

Old mate in his prime was a beast lol

Women no problem resisting. I think he's out to attract wimmin. I can't speak for those.

[โ€“] Catfish@aussie.zone 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Er... moustaches can be forgiven. Looking like a condom full of walnuts cannot.

[โ€“] TheWitchofThornbury2@aussie.zone 5 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

Beg leave to differ. Moustaches can NOT be forgiven on blokes that like pumpkin soup. Or any other soup. I will die on this hill. Soup loving blokes need to be cleanshaven.

EDIT: Filter feeders are for baleen whales, no one else.
