I wanted to use my IRL given name instead of a nickname, so here I am.

[–] Skepticpunk@lemmy.world 2 points 2 years ago

The logical conclusion to being a skeptic is being punk.

[–] Nikki@lemmy.world 2 points 2 years ago

its my name, i picked my name, i like my name

[–] some_guy 2 points 2 years ago

Been using it for years in various places, though mostly while locally testing variables and such. Similar to 'aFile, bFile, cFile'.

[–] ultralight@lemmy.world 2 points 2 years ago

Have been a part of the lightweight backpacking community for a decade plus now. Have always loved the insane lengths folks go to shave a few ounces, such a funny hobby to me. I also just love the name.

Loved homestarrunner.com when I was a kid

[–] bagele@lemmy.world 2 points 2 years ago

I like bagels.

[–] STRIKINGdebate2@lemmy.world 2 points 2 years ago

One day I created a reddit account. I used a couple of names but they were all taken. That's when I let fate decide my name. The gods bestowed upon the name StrikingDebate2. This name has been with me for so long why should I leave it? Why should I reject the gods judgement? Of course, you can just call me striker for short.

[–] braxy29@lemmy.world 2 points 2 years ago

been using this username for about 15 years. i guess i could have tried my preferred version from years before that, i bet it's still available. but anyway, this username is just me at this point.

[–] Anti_Weeb_Penguin@lemmy.world 2 points 2 years ago

I don't think i have to explain why.

[–] Rahkshi@lemmy.world 2 points 2 years ago (3 children)

Because I collected lots of bionicles and I thought the rahkshi were cool as hell with awesome powers plus cool staffs as weapons.

I was already using it on reddit, guess I'm just used to it now.

I mean have you played Stellaris?

If not, the Prethoryn Scourge are hands down the most terrifying thing in the game, IMO. They are Galaxy eating hive minds. Stellaris is a real time strategy game made by Paradox Interactive. You create an alien species and pick their traits, ethics, civics, etc. It is mainly centered around role play and it is a blast playing with friends and great material for short stories.

It is also greater for mocking politics, ethics, morals, perspectives, and often referred to as the Xeno hate simulator. The game is different each times, the DLC adds so much, the mods are a greater way to spice it up even more. In the game you face what is called the end game crises. There are 3 standard end game crises, technically more but they don't pan out as end game anhilators, and you have to survive the wiping of the Galaxy. This is where the Prethoryn Scourge am alient hive mind that eats all live to thrive. However, the scourge discover your Galaxy by informing you they are running away from a greater threat.

Prethoryn sounds awesome to me, there aren't too many Stellaris players on Lemmy at the moment at least that I can find community or instance wise. So I am securing the name quickly. Plus I now have the game of world eaters.

Because it doesn't matter what my username is. It's just a unique identifier for my data on Lemmy. I use my password generator to also generate short usernames.

[–] visnudeva@lemmy.ml 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Because I identify as the divine.

[–] lunaticneko@lemmy.ml 2 points 2 years ago (1 children)

And owing to our heritage, I am obligated to revere you as our god. Hail to you!

It's my reddit username. 🤷

[–] Alkider@lemmy.world 1 points 2 years ago

It stuck around because I couldn't think of anything better. iirc I misheard a lyric in the pink guy album and i thought it was funny.

[–] lingh0e@lemmy.world 1 points 2 years ago

I've used this specific nick for 20 something years, it's a variation on my original nick "Lingo". The "h0e" part was from #bluelight, back when bluelight had an IRC server. One random day those of us in the channel dubbed ourselves the chat hoes. Being the l33t kids we were, it quickly became ch4th0e. We started referring to each other by adding "h0e" onto our existing nicks. I became lingh0e.

That was over two decades ago. I was an aggressive asshole when I first started using it. I keep it because I like to remind myself that I'm a better, nicer person now... but that cynical asshole is still a part of me.
