Uhhhh yes here is my get 1 pizza get a million $ free coupon from totally real pizza chain

[-] bull@aussie.zone 25 points 9 months ago

Every few years I try Domino's again to make sure my avoidance of them is justified and every time I'm reminded how right I am. Before you think I'm just a pizza snob, I like and semi regularly get Pizza Hut.

[-] GyozaPower@discuss.tchncs.de 8 points 9 months ago

Pizza hut is definitely better than Dominos, but at least in here (Spain), it's expensive as fuck, whereas Dominos is not that bad and it's much cheaper.

[-] Baku@aussie.zone 13 points 9 months ago* (last edited 9 months ago)

Domino's is dirt cheap here in Australia. Until last year, they were still doing large pizzas for $5 (which works out to something like 3 euros). They've gone up to $7 now, but that's still really cheap for a pizza that really isn't that bad

[-] bull@aussie.zone 11 points 9 months ago* (last edited 9 months ago)

It's actually insulting that they're still allowed to call what they serve as a large pizza a large pizza. Then they had the balls to offer an "extra large" for more money which was the size they used to be.

[-] roguetrick@kbin.social 3 points 9 months ago* (last edited 9 months ago)

By comparison though, they don't offer anything that big in the US for anything near as cheap as $7 AUD.

[-] KuroiKaze@lemmy.world 4 points 9 months ago

Pizza Hut in America is the absolute worst, Aussie Domino's level I'd guess. The thin crust is marginally better than their other stuff.

[-] Furball@sh.itjust.works 20 points 9 months ago

Am I the only one who thinks dominoes is pretty good

[-] DeltaTangoLima@reddrefuge.com 9 points 9 months ago

Out of the two of us? Yep.

[-] dan@upvote.au 7 points 9 months ago* (last edited 9 months ago)

Are you in the US or Australia (or somewhere else)? US Domino's is much better than the Australian version.

[-] Furball@sh.itjust.works 3 points 9 months ago

US, so that might explain it

Did Aussie Dominoes not have the recipe change that the American one went through a decade or so ago?

[-] madcaesar@lemmy.world 3 points 9 months ago

Domino's is fine, but only when they are 50% off.

[-] phorq@lemmy.ml 17 points 9 months ago

Yeah, but good luck finding a coupon for cardboard from Staples. They know they have all the power...

Domino's closest competitor, an office supply store.

American Officeworks

May as well straight up say "Were confident we use the cheapest ingredients available, and we couldn't possibly pay our staff less!"

[-] LemmyIsFantastic@lemmy.world 15 points 9 months ago

Apparently this very common sales discount is desperate?

[-] roguetrick@kbin.social 15 points 9 months ago

It's funny how different Domino's America and Domino's Australia is. In Australia their pizza is so cheap it sounds like it must be made of cardboard. Over here they use pretty good ingredients. Little Caesars is our cheap enough to be cardboard pizza place.

[-] dan@upvote.au 10 points 9 months ago* (last edited 9 months ago)

As an Aussie living in the USA... Little Caesars is better than Australian Domino's. Aussie Pizza Hut is terrible too.

On the other hand, Aussie KFC is significantly better than the US version. Not as good as Popeyes or Chick Fil A though.

[-] soviettaters@lemm.ee 1 points 9 months ago

I do enjoy my US KFC, but I can't go there anymore after taking a peek inside their kitchen and seeing the loads of food safety violations.

[-] I_am_10_squirrels@beehaw.org 4 points 9 months ago

Cardboard covered with tomato sauce and cheese is tasty enough for the price

[-] feminalpanda@lemmings.world 3 points 9 months ago

Ehh, my sis worked there and I can't eat it anymore, even for free.

[-] FilthyShrooms@lemmy.world 4 points 9 months ago

Funny, I always find dominoes tastes more like cardboard than Little Ceasar's ever does

[-] Baku@aussie.zone 12 points 9 months ago

Jokes aside, there's actually a possibility of getting decent deals with this. I seem to recall both pizza hut and Domino's doing similar things in the past, but I haven't seen any of these signs in ages, so I just assumed they'd stopped doing it

This is the Sebastopol Domino's if anyone happens to be out that way and has some coupons for other pizza shops

[-] Mr_Blott@lemmy.world 9 points 9 months ago* (last edited 9 months ago)

A decent deal would invariably involve decent pizza, so that's not happening in Domino's

*Cries in Seattle having some of the worst pizza but still costs $30+

Seriously though I don't know why Seattle pizza is so underwhelming I used to live in Idaho they have better pizza and Idaho doesn't do anything well. Why is dominoes on par with the other places in Seattle but way cheaper.

[-] KuroiKaze@lemmy.world 2 points 9 months ago

Sounds like someone has never had Delfinos

[-] ArmoredThirteen@lemmy.ml 2 points 8 months ago

Someone has now officially tried Delfino's! It is pretty good but I only give it a half win for Seattle because it is a very Chicago pizza. Regardless I'm happy I went and seems like somewhere I'll actually go back to so that puts it in the 'some of the best in Seattle' category for me.

[-] KuroiKaze@lemmy.world 2 points 8 months ago

Chicago Pizza is the top tier anyway so I'm glad you dug it

Eh, any "deal" that includes you ending up with a Domino's pizza isn't really a deal.

[-] chellomere@lemmy.world 2 points 9 months ago* (last edited 9 months ago)

Sebastopol

Good try Russia, deals on Domino's pizza won't make me to go on vacation to occupied Crimea! ;)

Canadian here. I hope you Aussies have managed to dodge the horrendous garbage that is Pizza Pizza.

[-] Gradually_Adjusting@lemmy.world 3 points 9 months ago

Ah, the negotiator

[-] grimacefry@aussie.zone 3 points 9 months ago

large Domino's pizza has shrunk so much its comical

[-] sirico@feddit.uk 2 points 9 months ago

+1 to all my Turkish pizza places banging out quality pizza art 18" f

[-] turtlepower@lemm.ee 2 points 9 months ago

Maybe they should try making actually edible pizza...

[-] Baku@aussie.zone 3 points 9 months ago

Honestly it's better than it was. They're still not even in my top 5, local pizza shop over chain any day of the week, but if you're in a tight place financially, you can get a good meal for very cheap

[-] Salvo@aussie.zone 3 points 9 months ago

They don’t have much consistency across franchises. All the Domino’s range from edible to garbage to utter garbage.

What we have noticed (with all pizza shops, probably most franchises takeaway shops) is; A) they open with original Franchisees. Food quality is great and price is appropriate. B) they start replacing managers with casual staff paid nothing. C) Franchise gets sold. D) new franchise owners skimp on everything and quality goes down significantly.

The problem is that if you skimp on cheap ingredients for a Souvlaki GR or Burgled, the quality goes from fantastic, to mediocre, to meh. Dominos starts at Mediocre, crashes to Shit immediately after the honeymoon period.

[-] turtlepower@lemm.ee 2 points 9 months ago

I mean, pizza is pizza, right? COWABUNGA!

[-] Maoo@hexbear.net 2 points 9 months ago
