I remember the best beer I ever had was Apollo Galaxy by Pivovar Matuska. I'm sure any beer from that company will be very good, try to find some.

also, while you're in eastern europe, drink as much of the blue elderflower fanta as you can. then for breakfast each morning eat pickles, bologna, boiled eggs and kvass. it will acclimate you to the new envirornment, and actually start to CRISPR slav genes into you.

this might violate some site rule about being pleasant, but this question is unfortunately the sort that the left needs to learn to answer with the very unpleasant "What's stopping you?". If you're interested in this, you should dig into it, develop an approach, and try to test it. the fundamental issue is that the left is minuscule, and there aren't many people who are interested in learning theory, and not many people are interested in teaching it, so no matter what, the first step is going to be more educators stepping up and trying to grow an audience, each of which will be a far more valuable testing ground for the different approaches one could have to education.

Sandisk used to make good ones. There was even a community that made open source OS called Rock box which could play Doom and Opus. They replaced it with a model that couldn't be flashed, and now they've stopped making that too.

He's credited, but neither side is really claiming ownership of specific elements. The story and setting of Eldenring is very similar to other Fromsoft titles, and not that similar to George's work. there is also the complexity of collaborating between a US author and Japanese studio. I would guess George didn't do all that much for the finished game, though I do sense the character genealogies, and names like Godfrey and Godrick are his touch.

yeah, that's what I was thinking. the book they were adapting was actually an episodic anthology, yet rather than do 1 chapter per episode, They decided a non-linear timeline, without even showing up front that they were doing events out of order, and pointless changes to make it their own, which ironically was just copying themes and tropes from other popular franchises like Game of Thrones.

It's an open world boss-battler, it would be impossible to adapt without some kind of spin.

also, the movie will establish the big sword build as the canon Elden Ring build.

CGP Grey suggests we should get rid of all coins but the quarter, and points out that when the penny was first minted, it had more buying power than a quarter does today, at a time when all transactions were done in cash. It has a certain appealing simplicity, 4 big coins = one dollar. decimal values would still be possible by debit, so it would avoid the nonsense of the British pence and shilling non decimal shit.

Americans will never use dollar coins. I thought 1 and 2 euro coins were convenient, you could try introducing them for the 12th time once you get rid of the other coins, but then again, China and supposedly Russia and India too, everyone is mostly fine using a QR code.

I'll be honest, I only read this article to make sure I was literate. Can report, I am one of the smarty pants who can read Bleak House. this system of measuring literacy by levels 1-5 seems most common in Britain, and the test was done on Americans at two Kansas universities. The Dicken's passages seem to contain some culturally specific clues, though would the results be an different if they used Melville instead of Dickens? Maybe not.

Level 5 Literacy is basically the same, but across multiple sources at once while being critical: "Adults can search for, and integrate, information across multiple, dense texts; construct syntheses of similar and contrasting ideas or points of view; or evaluate evidence based arguments. Adults understand subtle, rhetorical cues and can make high-level inferences or use specialised background knowledge."

I expect this competency to be demonstrated by a graduate with a Bachelor degree, this sort of literacy is equally important in STEM. I think my friends when I studied Engineering could do it, but I was friends with strivers, and I met a lot of idiots in random assigned group projects, and they graduated in the same class as me.

spoilerEuropean Green Lizard You'd think they would've found the head color more remarkable, but decided the 90% of it's body that's green was descriptive enough. maybe since it's from Europe, they were named this lizard long enough ago that they considered blue and green the same color.

The Series is now over. we can now officially declare we avoided it! Not one Jedi, not one sith, not one appearance of Vader of the emperor, not one lightsaber, not one physical manifestation of "The Force". They actually did Star wars with zero bullshit.

These couple of weeks, Hexbear has been full of Andor posts. Considering these last 3 episodes were probably the best television I've ever seen in my life, I figure there are gonna be a lot of people who want to share their thoughts on the finale.

I'll be honest, until episode 10, I thought Season 2 wasn't for me. it's wasn't bad but I just felt it didn't have the punch of Season 1. that season gave us novel tropes like a gold heist, a prison break, a riot, etc. season 2 was a more character focused set up for rogue one.

but the last 3 episodes, they changed everything. every minute was amazing.

Andor is often called perfect for someone who doesn't think they like star wars. If it was just a standalone sci-fi spy thriller, it would be still be the best thing on television, but what's truly the crowning accomplishment is that if you do know a lot about star wars, it somehow becomes ever better. This show redeems other media in this franchise. it redeems rogue one, it even strengthens Episode 4.

How much the destruction of the death star cost. In episode 4, the audience is shown "It was a longshot, but somehow a backwater orphan pilot managed to score the killing shot and destroy the battle station."

in Rogue One, they're shown "Okay, it was an even longer shot than that, because before they got to that point, they had to do a big adventure culiminating in getting the plans off Scarif with just seconds to spare"

And I always thought that was sort of weak, because it's a work of fiction. fiction naturally collects around the execution of extremely lucky acts. how ever unlikely their success was is ultimately arbitrary, they can always be written to succeed in spite of the odds.

But it's not about their luck, it's about their sophistication. it's that the rebels were doing all of these things collectively and competently, that they had become what they needed to be at their finest hour, and all the contributions, all the sacrifices of every single character all lead to this being possible.

Or I'm just high an none of this makes sense.

I guess I need to write a disclaimer about Perun: He's a smug liberal commentator from Australia (the ideology, I don't know what party he votes for in elections), though his gaming channel is pretty comfy. He has a degree of western bias, and has been invited to high profile international weapon conferences. He does attempt to cover conflicts neutrally however.

Some big points I notice:

  • The US continues to make staggering investments in assets against China, which will be ready in the early 30s.
  • This increase by itself is greater than the entire Russian defense budget for 2025 while in active warfar- Special Military Operations
  • "Golden Dome" will provide some protetion against Chinese retaliation on the US homeland which China can threaten with Type 93B Cruise Missile Submarines.
  • Golden Dome may also provide good enough insurance against ICBMs for confronting China's relatively small stockpile of warheads.
  • Large Investments in US nuclear forces, including a "classified nuclear deterrent", and a small yield ship launched nuclear missile which congress has funded despite navy not wanting.
  • 4.5 Billion investment to "accelerate" acquisition of B21 Stealth Bombers,
  • Massive increase to US capabilities in naval mining, including autonomous torpedoes and underwater drones, which the PLAN has limited countermeasures prepared
  • Combine that with new missiles and the US leaving its missile treaties, it seems like the US may be positioning itself to take an asymmetric stance against China, which sounds unique since it's typically the side close to home that chooses to adopt asymmetric tactics.

Iberian ownership of Ceuta is older than Turkish ownership of Istanbul. it's been continually occupied since then, and Morocco ceded it by treaty in 1860. It feels to me like Spain has a better claim on Ceuta and Mellila than Britain does on Gibralter, and the Falklands, and Than Morocco does on Western Sahara,

What happened here?

... "says to him, "Everyone sodomizes you," and further, "I can prove the charges against you," but he is unable to prove the charges and does not prove the charges, they shall strike that man 50 blows with rods"
