I see more and more people really stick to bluesky. People who had bigger twitter accounts have been focussing more on BS and deleting or hibernating their twitter. So I see the opposite of what you say.

Oh so tell me how this is not just a 1:1 nazi playbook? "Greater Israel"??! Sounds terribly familiar

I've never had many missed calls or messages aside from spam. Yes, I'm lonely

You have two things to decide: where is the viewer of the painting standing and what's the elevation? You might draw yourself a sight line on the horizon to mark how high the viewer is standing. Right now, the sight line is pretty low. If you pull the grass higher, the view point shifts higher Second consideration is the elevation. Are we standing on a plain or in front of a hill? Think about perspective

In German, we have Margaret(e) - translates to daisy We have Rose and some variations of it (Anne-Rose, Rosa, Rosalinde...)

That's a really wrong assessment.

Extreme acts without gun: punches, maybe knifes. One person hurts one other person.

Extreme acts with guns: one person shoots down 35 other people.

Not having firearms DID in fact prevent such killings. See any country without mass gun ownership

Yea, because pigs don't poop where they eat if they have enough space. They will designate a pooping place for their pack(?), which makes it easy to clean

Huh look at that. I guess you tell me why I still use jpeg xD Compatibility? Print?

I'm just old and use PNG only to preserve transparency in images

[–] Mighty@lemmy.world 11 points 1 month ago (2 children)

For me it's simply routine. If I have pictures that I want in high quality without compression, I have tiff or raw, but jpeg is usually enough to save images without using much space and still having the colour profile embedded.

If I cut a thing in two, are the two pieces together exactly the same size as the original?

Or to rephrase it: does a knife/scissors/etc just split something or does it remove something?

It's a question I sometimes remember, when doing fitness. I always wanted to wear weights on my arms or legs. But they are always filled with sand and are very bulky and weird. I am wondering, why we're not using more dense materials? Why not metal? The weights at the gym aren't sand.

I wish I could claim to have shot it in the wild. But this is a ranger talk at grouse mountain, north Vancouver

[edit: I thank everyone for their comments and time. A lot of very interesting opinions and view points. Unfortunately also a lot of things that went away from the actual answer. So I'm thinking maybe this thread can be closed without deleting it?]

The more I hear people talk about it who aren't cis-het men, the more I hear criticism about the concept. But so far, I've only heard people say that it's stupid, that it's not a thing, that it's men's own fault etc. But I've yet to understand where that criticism comes from. I don't want to start a discussion on whether or not it's real or not. I just want to understand where the critics are coming from.

Hi peeps, My big trip through Canada is only three weeks away now and I'm starting to feel nervous 😬 So I thought I'd post here to ask y'all a few things, mainly about socialising and meeting folks. - specifics about my travels at the bottom

1.) I'm still looking for couch surfing hosts in Vancouver and Toronto. People on beWelcome aren't really answering. Is there some advice? Or advice on cheap accommodation for 1-3 nights in those towns? Or maybe even some of y'all who'd like to hosts me :)

2.) what are some good ways to meet people on the road? Are there social media apps that are favoured in Canada? Specific places for travellers? (YMCA, hostels, clubs...?)

3.) any other things you'd like to tell me? XD

My trip is: arriving in Vancouver on the 25th of Juli, renting a car on the next day. Plans to travel the west for about 3 weeks. Domestic flight to Toronto on the 16th of August, rental car in Toronto on the 17th, driving around Ontario and the east for two weeks. Departure from Toronto on the first of September.

This is among the best of the paintings I made. I was trying a wet-on-wet which isn't easy with acrylics, so I used a thin gesso ground to paint on.

Hey y'all. I'm honestly lost and feel super down.

  • Facts: CBF1000 sc58
  • Last thing I did was get my alternator and regulator repaired/changed. My alternator was burnt out. The mechanic said that it's am usual problem with this model and the regulator is the problem.
  • I had to learn to take it out and rebuild it myself. About a month ago, I finally put the alternator back in and my bike actually started! I was overjoyed.
  • Since a week now I'm trying to actually ride it again and it won't start. I recharged the battery (Li-ion). When I tried starting it, the battery kinda drained immediately. It just didn't start. Luckily, I have a second (gel) battery that was full. I put that in and my bike didn't even light up. The fuses all look fine to me. The cables should be correct (there aren't that many options).

I just don't even know where to start. Thanks for reading

I've started doing more watercolour paintings again at work (I work with kids at a school) and I really enjoy it. I think I started enjoying painting a lot more since I stopped trying to paint something specific and started to just see what happened and what I felt like. Today I wanted to experiment with crayons and watercolour. It worked out perfectly: the watercolours didn't run over the crayon lines and thus created this cool "rain" effect. Everything is done in watercolour, I just traced the buildings with a dark blue crayon before applying the runny paint for the rain

So I already posted here about my holidays https://lemmy.world/post/23417267

I was wondering what online platform you can recommend where I can connect more directly with Canadians, ask questions, look for recommendations, accomodation,... I'm still torn between buying and renting a car. And there's the whole idea of seeing BC area and Ontario. Any tips concerning inland flights? Or greyhounds? Rail? Do you think that there might be people who want their car to be taken from one Vancouver to Toronto and would rent it to me? Should I post that on Craigslist?

You see I have many questions. (Yes, I'm autistic) It's gonna be a once-in-a-lifetime journey, so I want to be prepared.

Hi Canadians, I am giving up on web search and rely again on actual people.

I want to go to Canada in Summer for about 5-6 weeks. I already asked a travel agency for a quote for renting a RV, but thats STUPID expensive. I used to go couchsurfing. the website is no more (i think), i am registered on BeWelcome now but haven't looked into it.

What's the best ways for someone with little money to still travel most of the country? renting a car there? buying one and selling it later? RVs? couchsurfing (and how)? hostels? camping?

I am grateful for all hints and tipps and connections :)

edit after some comments: I'm from Germany. My budget is not high. I think I can maybe push it to 4000$, but that'd be pretty high for me.
