yeah, but if you're an anarchist then I just don't get it. how can you hold someone to a rule or have any opinion on the quality of the rules when you've already decided that all rules are stupid and you're not following any of them (unless you maybe are just following some in order to stay out of jail because reality exists outside of our internal priorities)

tldr version is beehaw doesn't like Lemmy world

[-] knighthawk0811@lemmy.one 6 points 1 year ago

can't users from any other instance already do this?

beehaw blocks world so they can't see each other but users from other instances can still see both. I'm currently on lemmy.one and I'm subbed to comms at both beehaw and LWorld.

they only problem i see is for users in those specific instances as they can't see one another, but everyone else can see both.

i think the result here is that beehaw will be limiting itself. probably fine as they are overwhelmed right now anyway. it seems that's what they wanted to do from the start as well. if they begin blocking even more instances things will get smaller for them.

but hey, that's the beauty of the fediverse. if you want an instance that does exactly what you want then go for it. make your own. link to whoever you want and block whoever you want

speaking of that, are users getting more ways to block instances and communities? I'd like to have all the tools to customize my feed. there's no AI doing it for me (which is good) so i need the ability to do it myself

it's my understanding that you won't make a full copy of everything. you'll only copy the communities that are added and you won't be copying the full history.

I'm unsure how far back it goes but it might be just the one day. i saw talk of changing it to go back as far as someone actually scrolled and pressed next but that was just an idea at this point.

back in that other platform i had changed to cross posting to my own profile rather than saving a post. it was just more convenient and prevented losing stuff if the op deleted it

probably because a hashtag is already a thing that means something else in other apps. making hashtag mean a community here would give it 2 meaning depending on the app and that's not user friendly cause people will make mistakes if they move between apps.

therefore a new character was chosen for communities to avoid such confusion

[-] knighthawk0811@lemmy.one 7 points 1 year ago

communities, I call them comms for short

it's a little more generic than this one if that's what you're into

they are realizing that if they want to maximize profits they don't actually need to maximize users.

I made this for a BBQ competition in 2019 and won first place in the side dish category against 60 teams. I'm still very proud

wow, to think that an outlandishly rich fairytale character has been wildly out matched by a boring dystopia

Here are some different ways to organize your workouts throughout the week. This is not an exhaustive list, but I think I cover all the basics.

First, know that you have options on how often you workout through the week. You can do anywhere from 1 day a week to 7 days a week (but it's advised to take at least 1 day off each week)

Second, you can choose to always do the same routines on the same days of the week or you can do them what's called asynchronously and do them in order but on whatever day of the week it falls on. Example: you have a routine that's 4 days long and you workout 5 days a week so you just cycle through them in order.

An example of a synchronous routine is that you always do the same workout on Mondays.

OK, now for the splits. Generally a workout routine is called a split because it splits up all your individual exercise between the days of the week.

The Bro Split A classic. This split targets a particular muscle group or movement pattern each day of the week. Example: Monday: Chest / Tricep Tuesday: Back / Bicep Wednesday: Deadlift (Hinge) Thursday: Shoulders Friday: Squats (Quads) Saturday: Running

PPL: Push Pull Legs Very popular as of this writing. This split can be either 3 days a week or 6 days a week, usually it's a 3 day split. All exercises are placed into the 3 days based on essentially the name of each day. There's a day for all pushing exercise, all pulling exercises, and a day for legs. PPL is kinda like a bro split but with less days in it. In the above example Monday is a push day, Tuesday is a pull day, Wednes day and Friday are both leg days, and the shoulders need to be mixed into the Push and/or Pull days

Upper/Lower This split combines things even more than the PPL did and combines all upper body exercise into one day and all lower body exercise into another day. You could exercise twice a week, or keep rotating through for 2-4-6 days a week.

Arnold Split My personal Favorite. Similar to a PPL but we're going to group things a little different day1: Chest & Back day2: Arms & Shoulders day3: Legs

Full Body This exercise split will focus on trying to do 1 exercise for each body part during every workout session.

Which is best? That's easy. All of them. There's no need to limit yourself. Try each one of them for 1-2 months each and see which ones you like or don't like. Then you can keep to your favorites after that. In the end the true best workout split is the one that keeps you actually enjoying your time working out and producing results for you.

How often should I workout? This one is a little harder. You need to find balance in your life. Do as much as you can consistently stick to. Do as much as you can recover from. If you workout so hard and so many days in a row that your body doesn't recover then you're actually going to lose muscle and strength rather than gain it.

Synchronous or Asynchronous? Do whichever you like. Myself, I very much prefer an asynchronous split since it allows me to take a day off whenever I need one either to rest or to just live my life. Then I just do the next workout on the list tomorrow.

works with Firefox

only downside is that if you choose to install fire multiple instances the admins need to have customized their setting because Lemmy defaults to always be called Lemmy

currently I'm following some Lemmy comms on mastodon and my problem is that each comment showed up independently in my feed.

they don't usually make sense on their own and i want to see the original posts only.

but how?

I'm sure you've noticed every few minutes on the front page posts will load in from the top and push things down.

usually I'll get some number of posts will from the same comm

I'm guessing this is just how need stuff comes in. is there a way to turn this off so that things won't load into my screen until i refresh?

I created my own comm on lemmy-ml yesterday and have made a couple posts since then. I wanted to subscribe to it from lemmy-one and join from here for everyday usage and only moderate from lemmy-ml

I'm trying to lower my lemmy-ml usage to help with server stability there.

is there a time delay in getting new comms added to the search here? or maybe some other cause?

I've tried finding it through search and I've also tried directly putting in the URL I think it would be based on what the URL looks like for other comms. neither worked for me

clearly, I'm missing something here

noob question, but I don't see that shown anywhere in the docs.

there's a URL text field when creating a post, I have been leaving it blank but there's clearly something that I can put in there. what goes there?
