Gamergate and its consequences have been a disaster for the human race
Gamergate honestly catapulted the whole thing but I'll keep saying it: I vividly remember everyone gettin mad as fuck about LoZ: Wind Waker because it wasn't Ocarina of Time: More tits and gore and I genuinely think the whole thing has its root causes in gaming starting as a hobby for rich people originally
Even before that
got death threats for making 
the protagonist of MGS2
Fucking gamers have always sucked but it's also getting worse
I thought the backlash for Wind Waker was because they were expecting the art style that was presented during the GCN tech demo.
I agree, 90% of what I saw at the time was that the artstyle was too "childish".
